Congratulations Arabella! Arabella Davis was acknowledged on Assembly for her performance in

the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Aspiraons Program in 2020.

ATSIP is an academic challenge for eligible students in Years 7 to 9. The

program builds upon students' crical and creave thinking skills by

providing opportunies to invesgate soluons for real-world STEM

challenges. ATSIAP aims to raise students' expectaons of themselves

as learners and enhance post-school aspiraons to include terary

pathways.

Arabella parcipated in the program in 2020 when at Nanango State

High School and was part of

a team that won the South

East Queensland Regional

compeon and then went

on to parcipate in the State

Finals.

Arabella had to complete a

long-term project over the

course of the year. Her hard

work resulted in her

winning the Grand Final.

Congratulaons Arabella.

QATSIF SCHOLARSHIPS

Congratulations to Octavia Cobb (Year 12) and Joshua Gray (Year

11) on being awarded a Queensland and Torres Strait Islander

Foundation Scholarship. Both students were presented with their

Care for our

environment

Dear Parents / Carers

Please support us to ensure all

our learning environments are in a condition to

facilitate learning by reminding our students not to

play in the rain and resultant mud during the wet

season.

Flexible Day has supported many of our senior students to access training

within our community.

A number of our students are compleng a

Cerficate II in Marime Operaons through

Volunteer Marine Rescue Port Douglas. Others complete shi5s in the

workplace for School Based Apprenceships and Traineeships (SAT)

without missing out on class.

Two of our Year 12 students on SATs have been nominated for ‘Training

Awards’ due to their commitment.

Amy Davidson has been nominated by TAFE in the category of

Apprence of the Year. Amy has already progressed officially into her

2nd

year and has maintained the balance between her studies,

apprenceship and training.

Ella Cairns has received glowing

reports from her employer and has

been nominated by the school in

the School Based Trainee category.

Good luck to both of these

students!

Finger Food Production The Year 11 Hospitality Pracces class completed their finger

food producon on Tuesday, delivering a variety of delicious

savoury and sweet treats to staff. This assessable task was

modified to be COVID safe and involved weeks of trialling to

establish the most suitable choices according to event brief

requirements. Ulmately, individual and aCracvely presented

tasng plates as well as a refreshing glass of punch were

delivered on me to sasfied customers.

The students are to be commended

on their excellent standards of

hygiene and safety, producon skills

and customer and colleague

interacons. As a result of this

process, they have a heightened

awareness of the need for effecve

me management, teamwork and

FLAMING ART GIRLS The FLAME Art exhibion opened on February 27 to a packed house. This

presgious exhibion was established by Cairns City Council and the Tanks Art

Centre to support and mentor young women arsts in our region. The exhibion

also celebrates Internaonal Women’s Day on March 8, and is open unl March 21.

The success of our students has been amazing once again!

This year saw last year’s

graduate Hannah Skennerton,

and this year’s senior Abbi White

exhibing works that were supported by local arst Wendy Wajer, who mentored

them since last November. These artworks explored their own and very personal

women’s issues and concerns. Both girls had a lot of interest in their art, and Abbi

sold her drawing on opening night! Congratulaons ladies for your drive,

commitment and willingness to have a go and show the region your talent. Everyone

should go and see the exhibion at the Tanks.
