Moses was not a good leader of Israel
because…
Moses was chosen by God to be a leader and is well
known as a great leader that led the Israelites out of
Egypt. We sometimes question ourselves, “Was Moses
actually a good leader? Was he able to deliver God’s
Word to the Israelites? Moses was a good leader, but he
wasn’t so great. And he couldn’t lead the Israelites to the
promise land. It is not all because of his behavior, but I
think he did make poor decisions which affected his
inability to enter the promise land. If I could go back in
time and lead my people again, I would change my
attitude and anger towards the Israelites, but leading
them out of Egypt and performing the wonders of God I
would do the same.
To start with, Moses committed murder because of his
temper in Chapter 2. This is because the guy was beating
a Hebrew, but also because of his temper. Even if you see
your brothers beaten up by some gangsters, God does
not want you to go to them and punch them back. Moses
did what God didn’t want him to do.

Moreover, Moses doubted and complained to God. In
Chapter 4, God chooses Moses to be the one to lead the
Israelites out of Egypt. Moses doubted his choice, and
doubted his own ability. Moses also doubted God’s ability
because he asked him if the Israelites will believe him. If
God said it, it will happen. God had to show him
miraculous signs to prove that it was possible for him to
be a leader.
In addition, Moses doubted his ability once again, saying,
“Since I speak with faltering lips, why would Pharaoh
listen to me?” So God chose Aaron as Moses’ prophet. It
may be true that Moses had bad oratorical skills, but he
did not try, but only complained. Moses’ doubts and
complains made God angry.
Finally, Moses didn’t deliver every word of God clearly to
the Israelites and did not make sure they have got what
he said. God told Moses everything he needed to tell the
Israelites. But some Israelites who did not understand
Moses made some mistakes such as going out on the
seventh day and made God repeat his words again.
To conclude, we know that Moses did a good job leading
the Israelites out of Egypt, but he couldn’t make it to the

promise land. So Moses was a good leader but not a great
leader.
