(Moses) משה Moses was born in a time when his people, the

Children of Israel, were increasing in number and the Egyptian Pharaoh was worried that they might help Egypt's enemies. Moses' Hebrew mother, Jochebed, hid him when the Pharaoh ordered all newborn Hebrew boys to be killed.

He ended up being adopted into the Egyptian royal family.

After killing an Egyptian slave-master, Moses fled across the Red Sea to Midian where he tended the flocks of Jethro, a priest of Midian on the slopes of Mt. Horeb.

The Burning Bush

While tending the flocks of Jethro at Mount Horeb, he saw a burning bush that would not be consumed.

When he turned aside to look more closely at the marvel, God spoke to him from the bush, revealing His Name to Moses.

Moses’ EGR Experience:

A “double call”... (Exodus 3:4) But then, God calls to Moses out of the fire, "Moses, Moses"

(Exodus 3:4). Here we find one of only seven instances in Scripture when God calls individuals personally by name in this double fashion.

Generally, this double call indicates extreme urgency. There could seldom have been a more urgent moment than that when Abraham, on the point of slaying his son, is stopped by God, "Abraham, Abraham" (Genesis 22:11). This is the first time the double call is used.

How urgent was the moment when the Lord from heaven stopped Saul of Tarsus on his way to Damascus to persecute the Lord's people, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me" (Acts 9:4). This is the last time when this double call is used.

(For the other double calls see: Genesis 46:2; 1 Samuel 3:10; Luke 10:41; Luke 22:31- consider also Matthew 27:46)

"Here I am"

Moses answered...(Exodus 3:4)

Holy ground... This bush that burned but was

not consumed was a special place.

God says to Moses, "Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground" (Exodus 3:5).

God Himself was there!

“Eheyeh asher Eheyeh !”

is a Hebrew phrase that has been variously translated as

"I am that I am," "I am He who exists," "I become what

I will become," or even

"He shall cause to be." It is one of those little phrases that wraps up volumes of rich meaning.

(Exodus 3:14)

“ I AM THAT I AM “ – God Everything which Moses needed

he would find in the One who is the I AM. It is noteworthy that it is this same name of God which the Lord Jesus took for Himself and even more fully revealed.

Seven times over in the Gospel of John, He speaks of Himself in these terms:

Page 14: Moses egr experience

Jesus’ I AM’s: I am the bread of life (John 6:48)

I am the light of the world (John 9:5)I am the door of the sheep (John 10:7)I am the good shepherd (John 10:11)I am the resurrection and the life (John 11:25)I am the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6)I am the true vine (John 15:1)

Indeed, when the soldiers came to arrest Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, He challenged them, "Whom are you seeking?" When they answered, "Jesus of Nazareth",

He replied, "I am" (John 18:3-6). Such was the power of that name that the

soldiers fell to the ground. Jesus could have walked past them but instead, in marvellous grace, submitted to them.

Jesus said: “I am!”
