MORRISON PARK NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION
FIRST GENERAL MEETING FOR 2017
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 23rd 7:00pm
PENTECOSTAL CHURCH OF GOD 1025 Memory Lane in the Fellowship Hall
Guest Speaker Jose Solorio
Santa Ana City Council, Ward 3
ALL MORRISON PARK RESIDENTS AND PROPERTY OWNERS ARE URGED TO ATTEND AND MEET YOUR NEIGHBORS!
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Christina M. Dorsa-Smith President’s Message
2017 seems to have come in with a flurry of things happening all over. Weather has been crazy including much needed rain, added lushness and unfortunately the loss of some trees. Coyotes have been roaming in the neighborhood and pets have been at risk. There is so much going on around the country and closer to home, in our City.
I am happy to report that our new Councilperson for Ward 3, Jose Solorio, will be the speaker at our General Meeting this month. Please come and listen to what he has to say and to express your feelings and questions. This is our opportunity to meet with him face-to- face and voice our opinions on what we feel should be his goals and priorities. It is my understanding that ours is the first neighborhood meeting he is attending. Let’s make it a great one.
The Morrison Park Neighborhood Association Board would like to express gratitude to all the neighbors that have supported the MPNA Newsletter Fund. The Newsletter reaches close to 500 homes and is the main communication with the entire Morrison Park neigh-borhood. The Board feels that it is important to continue with four Newsletters each year year and since there is an ongoing expense (approximately $1,660 per year), the Board has voted to add the recycled bottle and can money collected to the Newsletter Fund instead of the Neighborhood Improvement Fund, effective immediately. Of course, donations are still needed as this will only help supplement the donations that are received.

Christmas Caroling
Due to the inclement weather and the postponement of caroling for a day we had
fewer carolers to go out on Thursday, Dec. 22nd. Therefore we went directly to
the home of our hostesses, Isabella Hanson and Dianne Nyman, and sang Christ-
mas carols, played the bells, shared Christmas mem-
ories, and enjoyed delicious refreshments. Before
departing we gathered around the beautiful nativity
display in the driveway and sang Silent Night in the
chilly evening air. From there we drove around the
neighborhood enjoying the abundant Christmas deco-
rations. It truly was a memorable evening for all.
Please Welcome These New Neighbors to Morrison Park
2606 Lowell Lane: Shannon and Maggie Meier moved here from Anaheim in October. They have a three year old daughter and an 18 year old step-son. Shannon is employed by the Orange County Sheriff Dept. Maggie works as a medical assistant for the county. They are working on plans to upgrade their home while offering themselves as volunteers in community events like the snow party. 1048 Sherwood Lane: Louie & Maria Rodriguez moved here from Orange in November. They have three children ages 9 to 14. Louie is employed as a lineman for Southern Cal. Edison. Maria is a homemaker and loves arts and crafts. She wants to get involved in MPNA activities. The whole family work out, whether it is in the gym, kick-boxing, or playing sports. They are very involved in updating their home and are very happy in their new community. 1002 Fairbrook Lane: Michael & Sarah Skurzynski moved from Riverside in January. They have an infant daughter named Elora. Michael works as a counselor at Hoag Hospital. Sarah also works in the medical field at St. Bernadine Hospital as a surgical technician. They love spending time with the family. Michael has a special interest in studying the bible and the benefits he has received from it. 922 Park Lane: John & Faith Huthmaker moved from Long Beach in January with their precious dogs. John works for Fusionstorm as a network engineer. They love animals and family. John’s special interest is in astronomy and would like to connect with neighbors with similar interests. Community involvement is also in their plans. 1015 Park Lane: Don & Sonia Gerdts moved here from Tustin in December. They have two married chil-dren. Don is a co-owner of a health card information service. Don & Sonia enjoy family activities and they entertain their grandchildren, two four-year-old granddaughters, often. Their favorite football team is the Kansas City Chiefs. Sonia is interested in getting involved in our neighborhood association. We welcome all our new neighbors and welcome their interest in getting involved in our community.

President’s Message continued from page 1
The dedication of the Kirwan Bench will take place during Spring Break. The exact date will be determined by the Kirwan children’s availability. The ordering of the bench and plaque through the City has begun, so be on the lookout for more details! It is our hope that the enclosed 2017 MPNA Calendar will help with planning and increased attendance to the many MPNA events. Please post someplace that is easily accessible. Again, thank you to all our wonderful neighbors that make living in Morrison Park so enjoyable. Your generosity and thoughtfulness means so much to so many.
Christina M. Dorsa-Smith
P.S. My on-going wish is to make our neighborhood a “deposit free” neighborhood. It is very disheartening to see and hear that so many deposits are left behind in yards, parkways, and the parks. This is totally unacceptable. Please remember to be responsible hu-man companions to your four-legged friends and neighbors.
Snow and Santa Party in the Park, December 10th The Morrison Park Neighborhood Association hosted a successful party in December with over two hundred people enjoying snow, food and beverages, a petting zoo, piñatas, crafts, and an opportunity drawing.
The total budget adds up to over $4,800 and this is made possible by very generous donations by many of our neighbors for prizes, food, piñatas, snow, and many other materials needed to produce this event. In addition to the desserts provided by neighbors there was $678 raised for the opportunity drawing and $240 raised to help with the cost of the food. Thank you to all who contributed! Additional photos can be seen on the neighborhood website: www.morrisonpark.org.
We are also very appreciative to these local businesses who contributed money or gift card prizes:
Dr. Kenneth Kim, DDS Subway
Luv’N Donuts Memory Lane Cleaners
Juan Pollo El Pirates Seafood and Grill
Animal Clinic Vet. Dr. Kim Dollar Tree
Starbucks

It’s February again, time to take down holiday decorations.
Although it is only the second month of the year the holidays seem to have been so long ago. Please remember that all Christ-mas lights and decorations were to be re-moved thirty days after the first of the year per ordinance SAMC8-667.
