BANDON — The Bandon Chamber of Commerce will present the second-annual Bandon Crab Fest.

The event will be held at the Old Town Marketplace building, 250 First St. SW on the Bandon waterfront. Tickets are $45 each for a whole crab meal that includes cheese appetizers, chowder, pasta salad, roll, beverage and dessert, along with live music and dancing. For those with shellfish allergies, a prime rib dinner will be offered for $50. There are also hot-dog meals and activities for chil-dren.

The Bandon Crab Fest was created as a means to be a "rotating fundraiser." Last year, more than 375 people attended. The proceeds from the pilot year totaling more than $5,000 were awarded to the Bandon Historical Society Museum. This year, pro-ceeds are slated to benefit scholarships for Bandon High School students seeking training in industrial arts vocations to further their education.

"As Lori Osborne came on the board last month, she asked that the Chamber continue this event," said Chamber CEO/President Margaret Pounder. "With her help and guidance, tickets are now available for purchase. So many people last year asked if it could be a two-day event to give a choice of times to attend, so this year it’s being offered for a Saturday night dinner with music and dancing, and Sunday at noon with easy listening music."

Saturday, Feb. 22, doors open at 5:30 p.m. with dinner served at 6 p.m.

Music starts at 6:30 p.m. with Hecktic Week, an energy-packed duo with powerful vocals and beat driven grooves. Their foot stomping and soul touch-

ing sound is a blues-influenced infusion of nostalgic country, folk and rock.

At 8:30 p.m., Johnny Wheels & the Swamp Donkeys will play. Collectively, the band hails from Oregon, Texas and California and is typically tagged as a Blues band, although, the diversity of the mem-bers’ musical backgrounds becomes evident as the worlds of R&B, soul, jazz, funk and rock. are blended under a blues umbrella.

Sunday, Feb. 23, doors open at 11:30 a.m., with the meal being served at noon and music start-ing at 12:30 p.m.

From 12:30-2 p.m., Caught Red Handed will play. All three members are multi-instrumentalists and singers. The trio is well-known for its strong three-part vocal harmonies, flashy solo instrumental breaks and quirky on-stage conversation. They'll play original tunes from their two CD releases as well as popular selections from the Americana song-book encompassing bluegrass, country, folk and even a touch of old-time rock 'n'roll.

From 2:30-4 p.m., singer-songwriter/cover art-ist Jeff Kloetzel will perform. His original songs are fueled by his rhythmic guitar work and soulful vocals. Influenced by many musical genres includ-ing pop, rock, folk, blues and contemporary island, there should be something for everyone in Kloetzel's set list.

"We would like to thank all of those who con-tributed to the 2019 pilot year of the Bandon Crab Fest, with a special thank you to Donny and Ann Goddard of Goddard Energy for their contribution of the fresh-caught crab," Pounder said.

This year's sponsors and contributors include: The Beverage Barn, wine/non-alcoholic beverages;

BANDON — The next brush and yard debris removal event of 2019 will start on Monday, Jan. 13. Bandon Disposal will be picking up piles of brush and yard debris. City residents are allowed up to a maximum of 5 cubic yards of brush and yard debris (approximately two pickup loads) at no cost. Simply place your brush and yard debris in the right-of-way alongside the street adjacent to your house prior to Monday, Jan. 13, and Bandon Disposal will pick it up.

Be advised that it may take several weeks for the brush piles to be picked up throughout town, but those who feel they were missed can contact Bandon Disposal at 541-347-9633.

Make sure the brush is in one pile, since there is a maxi-mum of one pile per address, and no group piles. Keep in mind that this program is for woody yard debris such as

branches, brush, gorse, etc. Other items and materials such as metals, appliances, furniture, etc. will not be accepted. Branches must be cut into lengths no longer than 5 feet. Grass clippings and leaves will also be picked up, provided they are placed in biodegradable paper bags. No plastic bags can be accepted. Avoid placing the pile under overhead util-ity lines or overhanging trees, since a boom truck is used to pick up the debris. Locate the pile away from fire hydrants and utility boxes, and do not impede sidewalks or pedestrian walkways.

A total of three brush and yard debris removal events are held each year. This is the first event for 2020. This year they are scheduled for January, June and October. For those with more than 5 cubic yards of debris, or who want debris picked up at times other than the three brush removal weeks, contact Bandon Disposal for a price quote.

Brush and debris pick-up starts Jan. 13

COOS BAY — The 2020 Oregon Coast Film Festival will be held Jan. 24-25 at the Egyptian Theatre, 229 S. Broadway, Coos Bay.

The film festival is an exhibition of Oregon films, film-makers, cinematographers and photographers.

The two-day festival program includes documentary films and shorts, photography, student films and selected feature film(s).

Entering the seventh season, the film festival continues to focus on the culture, history, environment and recreation of Oregon and the surrounding region.

A local highlight in the film festival is "Samurai in the Oregon Sky” by filmmaker Ilana Sol.

Other local artists showing at the festival include southern Oregon artist Rachel Gates and Marshfield High graduate Hannah Mason.

"I see the Film Festival as another platform for these art-ists to exhibit their work," Wilhite said. "It’s local and a great venue at the Egyptian Theatre.”
