Morning Group Time On Monday 20.07.2020
During the morning mat time, children listened to a
story called “First Day”. It was an adorable picture
book about first-day nerves, and it asked the children
questions about “Are you ready” “Who is the bravest”
and “What could make you feel nervous?” children lis-
tened attentively. When they successfully made con-
nections between the story and themselves, they
settled down, and looked calm and restful.
Then Miss Sue started their learning journey about
letters (after the story). She reviewed the letter A, B,C,
D and related words for them. For some children, who
learned this before, it was a great opportunity for
them to review. When we asked our children to re-
view something, it helped them to build confidence
because they could do it! We taught them this was a
practice -- just like a sport. Before we learn a new skill,
reviewing has a great value to promote our “I can do
it” spirit :).
For the children who just joined us from last week.
After their settling down, this offered them a chance
to catch up and then to feel more comfortable with
their learning journeys.

After the mat time, children
engaged in playing based
learning experiences spon-
taneously. Some of them
came to Miss Sue, and
joined her with the potato
masher painting. They have
been encouraged to create
a bug of their own.
As we could see from the
photos, some children suc-
cessfully did so. They firstly
painted the main body,
then gradually added the
antennas and wings on
their bugs (some of theirs
looked like bumble bees).
Painting allows children
an educational opportuni-
ty that is fun and exciting.
It aids them to acquire
hand-eye coordination,
an important skill in their
age.
This is developed, for ex-
ample, today when they
learned to paint the parts
that they saw, making
sure their hand move-
ment is at par with their
vision.

Today’s outdoor mission was to rescue the butterflies. Children saw that
there were two beautiful “butterflies” stuck in the “spider web”, then they
looked eager to help those butterflies out. They used tongs to help with the
removing -- and the learning task was about the tools’ manipulating.
It was good to see that when the task seemed hard for some of them, they
persisted till they reached the success. For example, Oliver Kim, stayed with
Miss Sue till the last, he went to join the lunch after he could independently
rescue one butterfly.
