The Athens-McMinn YMCA will be closed today, July 27th, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon due to a planned water outage by AUB. Applications for Leadership McMinn’s Class of 2020-2021 are currently available and will be accepted through Friday, August 21st. The vehicle wreck pictured in the left column caused a lengthy power outage Saturday night and Sunday morning. Wayne Scar-brough said that Athens Utility Board repair crews began working on the damage at about 11:45 p.m. Saturday and finished around 4:30 Sunday morning. All three phases of switch 634 on the Old Niota Road near the intersection of County Road 415 and County Road 422 were opened to isolate the broken pole and get all the required work done. Eighty-nine accounts were knocked out of power for some time during this period.

Edward H. (Wortie) Bain, age 85, of Athens, died Saturday, July 25th, at NHC of Athens. He was born on July 26, 1934 in Etowah and grew up in Engle-wood. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan. He was associated with Bowater for 40 years as a millwright until his re-tirement. A funeral service will be Tuesday at Smith Funeral Home at 7 p.m. with visitation from 4 to 7 p.m.

COVID 19 Virus Update
As of Sunday, Tennessee has had 93,936 cases of
COVID-19, with 54,730 recoveries and 967 deaths.
McMinn County reports 423 cases with 259 recover-
ies and 20 deaths. Rhea County shows 444 cases,
with 311 recoveries and one death. Meigs County re-
ports 76 cases, with 34 recoveries. Monroe County’s
total is 257 with 145 recoveries and 7 deaths. Brad-
ley County has 1449 cases, 943 recoveries, and 9
deaths. Polk County reports 105 cases with 51 recov-
eries.
