Every student has the right to learn without hindrance and everyone has a responsibility to make this happen. There is far greater benefit in reward over punitive consequences.

• MIRROR – good signatures in Student Diary• House points• Blue Stickers – communication tool only• Negotiated positive and negative consequences (Whole

class/individual). • Management works from least intrusive to most intrusive. • Expectations are consistent. • Whole College approach (please see Parent Handbook for

flow chart).

Behaviour Management

Responsible ThinkingWhen an incident occurs each student involved will be asked the same questions by whichever staff member deals with the situation.1. What are you doing? / What have you done?2. What are the rules? / What should you be doing?3. What happens when you break the rules?4. Is this what you want to happen?5. Where do you want to be? / What do you want to do now?6. What will happen if the incident happens again?

These questions are designed to encourage students to take responsibility for their actions.

Daily and weekly homework tasks are set at the beginning of each week.

Homework is to be completed, daily or weekly, and presented at school on the following morning for marking and monitoring of progress. Spelling Tests are given on Fridays.

Homework tasks are integral to the class programme. Please refer to Homework guide as a reference point.

Students are encouraged to seek my help with any difficulty or concern with regard to homework.

Class-related projects (research reports, construction of models, interviews, speaking presentations, class poetry recitals, and so on) will be set during the year, and will require particular attention outside of school hours.

Students are to spend approximately 30-45 minutes to complete homework tasks, nightly.

Reading

• Home reading is also a necessary part of each student’s homework with a minimum of fifteen - twenty minutes per day being advisable.

• Regular reading practice is vital as reading affects every area of learning. It is important that students are confident readers who demonstrate a high level of both fluency and comprehension, essential skills throughout the school years but especially as they approach high school.

• Please help your son to see that reading is also a pleasurable and relaxing habit.

• Nightly reading should be recorded in your son’s homework diary and signed off by a parent.
