*Autism Queensland’s early childhood intervention

services are approved by the Federal Government’s

Department of Social Services.

This means that families can use their child’s

HCWA funding to pay for this program.

NDIS funding may also be used (if applicable).

Rebates may also be available through Medicare and

private health insurance. Please ask us about this.

The Hanen Program® - More Than Words® is available to parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder who are

under the age of 5. The More Than Words® program aims to empower families to help their child with ASD to engage in

back and forth interactions, develop more mature and conventional ways of communicating, improve social

communication and improved their child’s understanding of language.

The program will help you to manage your child’s behaviours and develop their communication skills by turning

everyday activities into positive learning. The 11 week program will consist of 1 x 1.5 hour pre-program consultation,

7 x 2.5 hour group sessions and 3 x 1-2 hour individual videotaping and feedback sessions. Attendance to all sessions is

essential to ensure that all of the program’s strategies are learnt and can be applied to interactions with their child.
