Care Harbor (Formerly CareNow), a non-profit 501 C (3) organization, will be conducting their annual free healthcare event at the Los Angeles Sports Arena on October 31 - November 3, 2013. At last year’s event, hundreds of volunteer healthcare professionals participated in providing over 700 patient services to the uninsured, underinsured and underserved populations of Southern California. Care Harbor clinics are community based events, drawing on local health care institutions, agencies, and volunteers. Care Harbor event organizers and healthcare professionals work in partnership with local groups to recruit resources and volunteers, coordinate and manage event logistics, and assure the most effective delivery of care. This year, the event will feature 100 dental stations, an on-site denture lab, and state of the art equipment such as the E4D crown milling system. The Care Harbor Clinic is seeking for health care professionals (medical, dental, and vision) and general volun-teers to take part in this groundbreaking event. As we all know, many of our KADA members have participated in the previous events to serve our community in need. With that in mind, we are urging our group members to volunteer again in this event as a group on Thursday, October 31, 2013 @ 7 AM - 5 PM at the Los Angeles Sports Arena located on 3939 S. Figueroa St., Los Angeles, CA 90037. To participate, please register online at http://careharbor.org/la/volunteer.html. Participants must be 18 years and older. If you have any other questions, please e-mail [email protected]. Dinner will be provided for the KADA members after the event.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 2016-2017 PRESIDENT ELECT,DR. THOMAS HAN !
CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES!
As the new president-elect, and the appointed Chair of the 2013 KADA Scientific Conference, I would like to thank all of you for your support and contributions. We, the dentists, are consistently viewed by the public as one of the most trusted professionals. Hence, they expect us to act ethically and always be competent. A difficult challenge we all face has been meeting those expectations of the public, while trying to maintain a successful business operation. This challenge seems to be accentuated today by soft econom-ics, crowded competition with overstated marketing in communities such as ours, and increased cost of operation. Patients' demand for more information and explanation often requires better trained staffs, which are in short supply. New products and technology can enhance communi-cation, increase efficiency and productivity, and expand patient services,
but they come at an increased cost of operation. Then there is clinical and technological information overload for the practitioner. For most of us, our ability to distinguish fact from fiction is a constant challenge. But with challenge comes opportunity. All of us, as the Korean American Dental Association, have an opportu-nity to help our members face those challenges together, learning from each other to be more effective, produc-tive and economical. Helping one another to be a better professional equipped to provide ethical, beneficial services to our patients while maintaining a successful business operation.Dr. S. Ha, our current president, Dr. P. Kim, our next president, Dr. B. Hong, our past president, and I, along with the able officers of KADA, from now to 2017, will all work together to build a strong organizational infrastructure for the KADA, which can be passed down to the future officers. This structure can be built on to increase the KADA's role in serving all of you to enhance the quality of your professional life. In the process, we hope to cultivate young leaders among the Korean American Dentists, in private clinical practice or in academics, who will proudly represent our profession and the members of the Korean American Dental Association. Our vision is make the KADA an useful and important information source and camaraderie for all members. We ask for your enthusiastic support in our activities to serve you. We ask for your leniency in our trial and errors, but always with constructive criticism. I am proud to be a part of this endeavor. I thank you for your confi-dence in selecting me, and I thank you in advance for all that you will do to make our vision come true. P.S. Please join us at the 2013 KADA Scientific Conference and Christmas Party in Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, December 20-22. Respectfully, Thomas Han
