“#79 is a fragrant OP seedlingfrom a nice but unknownwhite we had when I workedat Jenkins Estate, I forgethow many petal lobes "mom"had, but the 6 lobes #79 hassuggests perhaps fortuneiancestry, and her fragrance.”

R. “88” (sister of ‘Tang’)

This is a roadside rescue (given what county road crews do, I make no apologies for it) made last year. It's a native Iris tenax, I'm naming 'Sain Citrina’. (You may find yellow tenax called I. gormanii, but I'm in the camp that says you don't get to name a "species" just because you found a color variation.) It is a "happy yellow", good yellow. I intend to get the seed--selfed, because there's nothing else in bloom. I'm waiting for more buds to appear on other rescues.

From Jay Lunn“I took cuttings from three clones of plants that Ann and I selected of R. occidentale that we found in the Siskiyous along the Eight Dollar Mtn. Road south of Selma, Oregon about 20 years ago. I was only able to root selection #2 which is the one shown (here). Many clones of R. occidentale are very fragrant, but this clone doesn’t have a lot of fragrance, but it makes up for the amount of flowers it produces. I guess I have to use fragrance as part of my protocol for selecting plants in the future! I have donated this plant to several Chapter auctions only identified as R. occidentale, so a few members may have this plant in their garden.”
