    Overview of BMWLimitedWarranties

    The BMW limitedwarranties apply only to U.S.-specification BMWvehicles and cover eligiblewarranty repair or replacementwork when thewarranty service is performed at an authorizedBMWcenter in the United States (including Puerto Rico), subject to all applicable exclusionsand/or limitations.

    *The California Emissions Control System Limited Warranty applies to all 2018 U.S.-specification BMWvehicles registered in California, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey,NewYork, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont orWashington.

    Warrantor

    BMW of North America, LLC (BMWNA) warrantsduring the Warranty Period the 2018 U.S.-specification BMW vehicles distributed byBMWNA or sold through the BMWNA EuropeanDelivery Program against defects in materials orworkmanship to the first retail purchaser, andeach subsequent purchaser.

    WarrantyBegins

    Coverage begins on the date of first retail sale orthe date the vehicle is first placed into service asa sales demonstrator, Aftersales MobilityProgram (AMP) Vehicle or company vehicle,whichever is earlier.

    Warranty Period

    The warranty period is 48 months or50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, except asnoted below.

    WarrantyCoverage

    To obtain warranty service coverage, the vehiclemust be brought, upon discovery of a defect inmaterial or workmanship, to the workshop of anyauthorized BMW center in the United States(including Puerto Rico) during normal businesshours.

    The authorized BMW center will, without chargefor parts and/or labor (including diagnosis), eitherrepair or replace the defective part(s) using newor authorized remanufactured parts. Thedecision whether to repair or replace said part(s)is solely the prerogative of BMWNA. Parts forwhich replacements are made become theproperty of BMWNA. In all cases, a reasonabletime must be allowed for warranty repairs to becompleted after the vehicle is received by theauthorized BMW center.

    Warranty repairs do not constitute an extensionof the original limited warranty period for thevehicle or a part thereof.

    SafetyBeltWarranty—Kansas

    Safety belts are covered under the BMWNewVehicle Limited Warranty for defects in materialor workmanship for a period of 10 years,unlimited mileage from the date of purchase. Inorder to be eligible for this coverage, the vehiclemust be a new car retailed in the State of Kansasand the repair performed by an authorized BMWcenter in Kansas.

    Other Items

    Wheel alignment, balancing and wiper bladeinserts are covered up to the first 2,000 miles onthe vehicle.

    Itemswhich are subject to wear and tear ordeterioration due to driving habits orconditions, such as brake pads/linings, brakediscs, clutch disc, pressure plate, filters,upholstery, trim and chrome items, paintfinish, drive belts, glass, and similar items,their coverage is specifically limited todefects inmaterial orworkmanship.

    Additionally, wood trim and leatherupholstery have inherent variations in colorand texture, dependent upon being properlycleaned andmaintained.These itemsmaylighten or darken due to age or exposure tosunlight; this is not a defect inmaterials orworkmanship.

    Battery performance and durability aretemperature-dependent. While battery capacityincreases in higher temperatures, coldertemperatures will lower the battery’s capacity.Extreme high and/or low temperatures mayimpact the battery’s service life.

  • What is not covered:

    Remote control transmitter battery replacement.

    Damage, including consequential, which resultsfrom negligence, misuse/improper operation ofthe vehicle, improper repair, lack of or impropermaintenance, use of improper filters (including oilfilters), environmental influences, flood, accidentor fire damage, road salt corrosion, or the use ofimproper fuel as described in the Owner’sManual or contaminated fuel.

    Damage to the engine, transmission or anyrelated component caused by improper shiftingof the transmission.

    Damage to the paint finish due to stone chips,nicks, dents, acid rain, industrial fallout, otherenvironmental influences, and normaldeterioration, such as fading, discoloration, orloss of luster, improper care/repair of “matte”paint finishes, as well as damage caused by lackof maintenance, excessive rubbing, the use ofimproper cleaners, polishes and/or waxes.

    Maintenance services and parts when replacedduring maintenance such as spark plugs,lubricants, fluids, engine tune-up parts,replacement of filters, coolant, and refrigerant.

    Modification of the vehicle or installation of anyperformance accessories or componentsattached to the vehicle which alters the originalengineering and/or operating specifications orwhich results in damage to the other originalcomponents, electrical interference, electricalshort, radio static, water leaks and wind noise.

    Tires are warranted by their respectivemanufacturer. See the Tire Warranty Statementon page 16.

    Driving over rough or damaged road surfaces,as well as debris, curbs and other obstaclescan cause serious damage towheels, tiresand suspension parts. This ismore likely tooccurwith low-profile tires that provide lesscushioning between thewheel and the road.Be careful to avoid road hazards and reduceyour speed, especially if your vehicle isequippedwith low-profile tires.

    Non-genuine BMWParts —While you may electto use non-genuine BMW parts for maintenanceor repair services, BMWNA is not obligated topay for repairs of the non-genuine BMW parts orfor repairs of any damage resulting from the useof non-genuine parts.

    This warranty shall be null and void for specificvehicle components that were previouslyreplaced with used or salvaged automobile parts,including repairs of any damage resulting fromthe use of these parts.

    This warranty shall be null and void if theodometer has been replaced or altered and thetrue mileage on the vehicle cannot bedetermined, and/or the Vehicle IdentificationNumber (VIN) is altered and/or cannot bedetermined.

    This warranty shall be null and void if the vehiclehas been declared a total loss or sold for salvagepurposes, or if the vehicle has been used in anycompetitive event.

    General

    These warranties give you specific legal rights,and you may also have other rights which varyfrom state to state.

    THE DURATION OF ANY IMPLIEDWARRANTIES, INCLUDINGTHE IMPLIEDWARRANTYOFMERCHANTABILITY, ISLIMITEDTOTHE DURATION OFTHEEXPRESSWARRANTIES HEREIN.

    BMWNA HEREBYEXCLUDES INCIDENTALAND CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES,INCLUDING LOSS OFTIME, INCONVENIENCE,OR LOSS OF USE OFTHE VEHICLE, FOR ANYBREACH OF ANYEXPRESS OR IMPLIEDWARRANTY, INCLUDINGTHE IMPLIEDWARRANTYOFMERCHANTABILITY,APPLICABLETOTHIS PRODUCT.

    Some states do not allow limitations on how longan implied warranty lasts, or the exclusion orlimitation of incidental or consequentialdamages, so the above limitations andexclusions may not apply to you.

  • LimitedWarranty—RustPerforation 2018Models

    BMW of North America, LLC (BMWNA) warrantsthis original vehicle against defects in materialsor workmanship which will result in rustperforation of the vehicle body for a period of12 years unlimited mileage. Coverage begins onthe date of first retail sale or the date the vehicleis first placed into service as a salesdemonstrator, Aftersales Mobility Program (AMP)Vehicle or company vehicle, whichever is earlier.

    To obtain warranty service coverage, the vehiclemust be brought, upon discovery of any rustperforation, to the workshop of any authorizedBMW center. The authorized BMW center will,without charge for parts or labor, either repair orreplace the defective part(s). The decisionwhether to repair or replace said part(s) is solelythe prerogative of BMWNA. Parts for whichreplacements are made become the property ofBMWNA.

    Warranty repairs do not constitute an extensionof the original limited warranty period for thevehicle or a part thereof.

    BMW of North America, LLC (BMWNA) makesno other express warranty on this product exceptfor the new car warranty, rust perforation or theemission system warranties.

    THE DURATION OF ANY IMPLIEDWARRANTIES, INCLUDINGTHE IMPLIEDWARRANTYOFMERCHANTABILITY, ISLIMITEDTOTHE DURATION OFTHEEXPRESSWARRANTIES HEREIN.

    BMWOF NORTH AMERICA, LLC (BMWNA)HEREBYEXCLUDES INCIDENTAL ANDCONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, INCLUDINGLOSS OFTIME, INCONVENIENCE, OR LOSSOF USE OFTHE VEHICLE, FOR ANYBREACHOF ANYEXPRESS OR IMPLIEDWARRANTY,INCLUDINGTHE IMPLIEDWARRANTYOFMERCHANTABILITY, APPLICABLETOTHISPRODUCT.

    Some states do not allow limitations on how longan implied warranty lasts, or the exclusion orlimitation of incidental or consequentialdamages, so the above limitations andexclusions may not apply to you.

    This warranty gives you specific legal rights, andyou may also have other rights which vary fromstate to state. Any legal claim or action arisingfrom any express or implied warranty containedherein must be brought within 12 months of thedate it arises.

    What is not covered

    This warranty does not apply to damage,including consequential, which results fromnegligence, misuse/improper operation of thevehicle, improper repair, lack of or impropermaintenance, environmental influences, flood,accident or fire damage and road salt corrosion.

    Non-genuine BMWParts—While you may electto use non-genuine BMW parts for repairservices, BMWNA is not obligated to pay forrepairs of the non-genuine BMW parts or forrepairs of any damage resulting from the use ofnon-genuine parts.

    This warranty shall be null and void for specificvehicle components that were previouslyreplaced with used or salvaged automobile parts,including repairs of any damage resulting fromthe use of these parts.

  • Federal Emissions SystemDefectWarranty (Valid Only in the U.S.A.including Puerto Rico)

    This warranty applies only to U.S.-specificationvehicles distributed by BMW of North America,LLC (BMWNA) or sold through the BMWNAEuropean Delivery Program.

    In accordance with the defect warrantyprovisions of section 207(b) of the Clean Air Act,BMWNA warrants to the first retail purchaser,and each subsequent purchaser, that the car (a)was designed, built and equipped so as toconform, at the time of sale, with all regulationsof the U.S. Environmental Protection Agencyapplicable at the time of manufacture and (b) isfree from defects in materials and workmanshipwhich would cause it to fail to conform withapplicable regulations for a period of 2 years or24,000 miles, whichever occurs first, except forspecific emission control components (as listedon page 8), for which the warranty period is8 years or 80,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

    Coverage begins on the date of first retail sale orthe date the vehicle is first placed into service asa sales demonstrator, Aftersales MobilityProgram (AMP) Vehicle or company vehicle,whichever is earlier.

    Warranty claims must be made as soon asreasonably possible after a defect is discovered.To make a claim, the car must be brought to anyauthorized BMW center during normal businesshours.

    The authorized BMW center will, without chargefor parts and/or labor (including diagnosis), eitherrepair or replace the defective part, if any. Thedecision whether to repair or replace said parts issolely the prerogative of BMWNA and must beexpected to correct the failure of the warrantedpart. Parts for which replacements are madebecome the property of BMWNA. In all cases, areasonable time must be allowed for warrantyrepairs to be completed after the car is receivedby the authorized BMW center.

    Warranty repairs do not constitute an extensionof the original limited warranty period for thevehicle or a part thereof.

    For assistance in determining which specificparts or components of your vehicle are coveredunder this warranty, please contact yourauthorized BMW center.

    It is the owner’s responsibility to have all scheduledinspection and maintenance services performed(at the owner’s expense when applicable), asprescribed in the maintenance schedule for theBMW Emission Control System. Service intervalsare computed by the onboard BMWConditionBased Service system and displayed on theinstrument panel. The instructions for propermaintenance and use can be found in the Owner’sManual. It is strongly recommended that anyreplacement parts used for maintenance, repair orreplacement of emission control systems becertified BMWService Parts or BMWAuthorizedRemanufactured Parts. Without invalidating thiswarranty, the owner may elect to havemaintenance, repair or replacement of theemission control systems performed by anyautomotive repair establishment, or elect to useparts other than certified BMWService Parts.However, the cost of such service or parts will notbe covered under this warranty, except inemergency situations. In an emergency situation,where an authorized BMW center or a warrantyreplacement part is not reasonably available (within30 days), repairs may be performed at any availableservice establishment using any equivalent part.BMWNA will reimburse the owner for suchemergency repairs (including labor, parts anddiagnosis not to exceed BMWNA rates for labor,parts, and diagnosis in said area) that are coveredunder this warranty. Replaced parts and paidinvoices must be presented at an authorized BMWcenter as a condition of reimbursement foremergency repairs not performed by an authorizedBMW center.

    The use of replacement parts, which are not ofequivalent quality, may impair the effectivenessof the emission control system. If other thancertified BMWService Parts or AuthorizedRemanufactured Parts are used for maintenance,repair or replacement of components affectingemission control, the owner should obtainassurances that such parts are warranted by theirmanufacturer to be equivalent to genuine BMWparts in performance and durability. BMWNAassumes no liability under this warranty withrespect to parts other than genuine BMW parts.

  • However, the use of non-genuine BMWreplacement parts or non-EPA certified partsdoes not invalidate the warranty on othercomponents, unless non-genuine BMW parts ornon-EPA certified parts cause damage towarranted parts.

    What is not covered

    The car or any part of the car, unless the failurecauses the car to fail to conform to the applicableemission regulations.

    Malfunctions, including consequential, causedby negligence, misuse/improper operation of thevehicle, environmental influences, flood, accidentor fire damage.

    Malfunctions, including consequential, causedby improper adjustment/repair, modification,alteration, tampering, disconnection, improper orinadequate maintenance except if one or more ofthese occurred as a result of repair work that wasperformed by an authorized BMW center underwarranty.

    For gasoline engines, malfunctions caused bythe use of leaded fuel or fuels containing morethan 10% ethanol, or other oxygenates with morethan 2.8% oxygen by weight (i.e., more than 15%MTBE or more than 3%methanol plus anequivalent amount of co-solvent and/or asspecified in the Owner’s Manual).

    Spark plugs, filters, and similar maintenanceitems are not covered under this warranty at orbeyond the first replacement interval, or if thepart has been replaced earlier for reasons otherthan it being defective.

    Any car on which the odometer has beenreplaced or altered and the true mileage cannotbe determined.

    Any car on which the Vehicle IdentificationNumber (VIN) is altered and/or cannot bedetermined.

    General

    Some states do not allow limitations on how longan implied warranty lasts, or the exclusion orlimitation of incidental or consequentialdamages, so the above limitations andexclusions may not apply to you. Additionally, ifyou are a California, Connecticut, Delaware,Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey,NewYork, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island,Vermont orWashington resident and your vehicleis registered in that state, your vehicle is eligiblefor California Emissions Warranty coverage.

  • Federal Emissions PerformanceWarranty (Valid Only in the U.S.A.including Puerto Rico)

    In those states and jurisdictions that haveestablished periodic vehicle emissions tests toencourage proper vehicle maintenance andrequire the car to pass an emissions testapproved by the U.S. Environmental ProtectionAgency and:

    1. The car was distributed by BMW of NorthAmerica, LLC (BMWNA), or sold through theBMWNA European Delivery Program; and

    2. The car has been maintained and operated inaccordance with the instructions for propermaintenance and use set forth in the Owner’sManual supplied with the car; and

    3. The car fails to conform to the applicableemissions standards of the EPA as judged byan EPA-approved emissions test; and

    4. The failure to conform results or will result inthe owner of the car having to bear a penaltyor other sanction (including the denial of theright to use the car) under local state orfederal law if the non-conformity is notremedied within a specified period of time.

    Then, in accordance with the provisions ofsection 207(b) of the Clean Air Act, BMWNAwarrants that if the car is eligible for coverageunder this warranty, any non-conformities in thecar, which cause it to fail an EPA-approvedemissions test will, without charge for parts orlabor (including diagnosis), be adjusted, repaired,or replaced, at the option of BMWNA to properspecifications, in order to make the car complywith applicable emissions standards. Thedecision whether to adjust, repair or replace partsis solely the prerogative of BMWNA and mustreasonably be expected to correct the failure ofthe warranted part.

    Coverage begins on the date of first retail sale orthe date the vehicle is first placed into service asa sales demonstrator, Aftersales MobilityProgram (AMP) Vehicle or company vehicle,whichever is earlier. This warranty continues for aperiod of 2 years or 24,000 miles, whicheveroccurs first, except for specific emissions control

    components (as listed on page 8), for which thewarranty period is 8 years or 80,000 miles,whichever occurs first.

    This warranty is made subject to the terms andconditions that apply to the Emission ControlSystemWarranty and the New Vehicle LimitedWarranty.

    Warranty repairs do not constitute an extensionof the original limited warranty period for thevehicle or a part thereof.

    No claim under this warranty will be denied onthe basis of use of a properly installed EPAcertified emission part for maintenance andrepair.

    A vehicle manufacturer may deny an emissionperformance warranty claim on the basis of anuncertified replacement part used in themaintenance or repair of a vehicle only if the vehiclemanufacturer presents evidence that theuncertified replacement part is either defective inmaterials or workmanship or not equivalent from anemission standpoint to the original equipment part.

    Maintenance, replacement, or repair ofemission control devices and systemsmaybeperformed by any automotive repairestablishment or individual using anycertified part.

    Immediately after the car has failed an EPA-approved emission short test, your claim can bemade at any authorized BMW center. Theauthorized BMW center will honor or deny yourclaim within the time period specified by local orstate laws (not to exceed 30 days), to avoidfurther penalties or sanctions. If the claim isdenied, the authorized BMW center will notifyyou in writing of the reason(s). The authorizedBMW center is required by law to honor the claimif notice of denial is not received by the ownerwithin the specified time period.

In California, new motorvehicles must be designed, built and equipped tomeet the State’s stringent anti-smog standards.BMWNAmust warrant the emission controlsystem on your vehicle for the periods of timelisted below provided there has been no abuse,neglect or improper maintenance of your vehicle.

    *The California Emissions Control SystemLimited Warranty applies to all 2018 U.S.-specification BMW vehicles registered inCalifornia, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine,Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, NewYork, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island,Vermont orWashington. Vehicles covered by thiswarranty are also covered by the FederalEmission Warranty.

    Your emission control system may include partssuch as the fuel injection system, the ignitionsystem, catalytic converter, and enginecomputer. Also included may be hoses, belts,connectors and other emission-relatedassemblies.

    Where a warrantable condition exists, BMWNAwill repair your vehicle at no cost to you includingdiagnosis, parts and labor.

    Manufacturer’sWarrantyCoverage:– For 3 years or 50,000 miles, whichever occursfirst:

    Warranty repairs do not constitute an extensionof the original limited warranty period for thevehicle or a part thereof.

    Owner’sWarrantyResponsibilities:– As the vehicle owner, you are responsible forthe performance of the required maintenancelisted in your Maintenance booklet. BMWNArecommends that you retain all receiptscovering maintenance on your vehicle, butBMWNA cannot deny warranty solely for thelack of receipts or for your failure to ensure theperformance of all scheduled maintenance.

    – You are responsible for presenting your vehicleto an authorized BMW center as soon as aproblem exists. The warranty repairs should becompleted in a reasonable amount of time, notto exceed 30 days.

    To obtain service under this warranty, the vehiclemust be brought, upon failure of a Smog Checktest or upon discovery of the defect, to theworkshop of any authorized BMW center, duringnormal business hours. The authorized BMWcenter will honor or deny your claim within30 days. If the claim is denied, the authorizedBMW center will notify you in writing of thereason(s). The authorized BMW center isrequired by law to honor the claim if notice is notgiven to the owner within 30 days.

    The authorized BMW center will, without chargefor parts or labor (including diagnosis), eitheradjust, repair or replace the defective part andother parts affected by the failure of thewarranted part, if any. If your vehicle failed theCalifornia Smog Check test or an EPA-approvedshort test, then BMWNA will repair your vehicleso that it will pass this test. Items that requirescheduled replacement are warranted prior totheir first replacement interval. BMWNAmayrepair a part in lieu of replacing it whenperforming warranty repairs. Parts for whichreplacements are made become the property ofBMWNA. After 3 years or 50,000 miles, and inaccordance with paragraph (c) above, suchrepairs are limited to the repair or replacement ofthose parts identified in the California EmissionsWarranty List.

For California vehicles, the specificemission control components listed on page 8are also covered under the Federal EmissionSystem DefectWarranty of 8 years or80,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

    If, within 7 years or 70,000 miles, whicheveroccurs first, the vehicle fails a Smog Checkbecause of a defect in a part listed in theCalifornia Emission Warranty Parts List onpage 13, repair or replacement will be performedunder this warranty.

    A repair performed as the result of a Smog Checktest failure due to a defect in a part, which iswarranted for 7 years/70,000 miles, is covered.

    Warranty repairs do not constitute an extensionof the original limited warranty period for thevehicle or a part thereof.

    In all cases, a reasonable time, not to exceed30 days, must be allowed for a warranty repair tobe completed, after the car is received by theauthorized BMW center.

    It is the owner’s responsibility to have all requiredmaintenance services performed (at the owner’sexpense when applicable), as prescribed in themaintenance schedule for the BMW EmissionControl System. Service intervals are computedby the Condition Based Service system anddisplayed on the instrument panel.

    However, BMWNA will not deny your warrantyrepair claims solely because you do not havemaintenance records or you did not perform therequired maintenance unless BMWNAdemonstrates that such lack of requiredmaintenance is a direct cause of the emissioncontrol system failure. The instructions forrequired maintenance and use can be found inthe Owner’s Manual and in the BMWMaintenance booklet.

    It is strongly recommended that any replacementparts used for maintenance, repair orreplacement of emission control systems begenuine BMWService Parts or BMWAuthorizedRemanufactured Parts. Without invalidating this

    warranty, the owner may elect to havemaintenance, repair or replacement of theemission control systems performed by anyautomotive repair establishment, or elect to useparts other than BMWAuthorizedRemanufactured or genuine BMWService Parts.However, the cost of such service or parts will notbe covered under this warranty, except inemergency situations. In an emergency situation,where an authorized BMW center is notreasonably available or a warranty replacementpart is not available within 30 days, repairs maybe performed at any available serviceestablishment or by any individual using anyreplacement part.

    A repair not completed within 30 daysconstitutes an emergency. BMWNA willreimburse the owner for such emergency repairs(including labor, parts and diagnosis not toexceed BMW suggested retail price for allwarranted parts replaced and labor chargesbased on the manufacturer’s recommended timeallowance for the warranty repair and thegeographically appropriate hourly labor rate) thatare covered under this warranty. Replaced partsand paid invoices must be presented to anauthorized BMW center as a condition ofreimbursement for emergency repairs notperformed by an authorized BMW center.

    The use of replacement parts, which are not ofequivalent quality, may impair the effectivenessof emission control systems. If other thangenuine BMWService Parts or AuthorizedRemanufactured Parts are used for maintenance,repair or replacement of components affectingemission control, the owner should obtainassurances that such parts are warranted by theirmanufacturer to be equivalent to genuine BMWparts in performance and durability. BMWNAassumes no liability under this warranty withrespect to parts other than genuine BMW parts.

    However, the use of non-genuine BMWreplacement parts does not invalidate thewarranty on other components, unlessnon-genuine BMW parts cause damage towarranted parts.

  • What is not covered

    The car or any part of the car, unless the failurecauses the car to fail to conform to the applicableemission regulations.

    Malfunctions, including consequential, causedby negligence, misuse/improper operation of thevehicle, environmental influences, flood, accidentor fire damage.

    Malfunctions, including consequential, causedby improper adjustment/repair, modification,alteration, tampering, disconnection, improper orinadequate maintenance except if one or more ofthese occurred as a result of repair work that wasperformed by an authorized BMW center underwarranty.

    For gasoline engines, malfunctions caused bythe use of leaded fuel or fuels containing morethan 10% ethanol, or other oxygenates with morethan 2.8% oxygen by weight (i.e., more than 15%MTBE or more than 3%methanol plus anequivalent amount of co-solvent and/or asspecified in the Owner’s Manual).

    Spark plugs, filters, and similar maintenanceitems are not covered under this warranty at orbeyond the first replacement interval, or if thepart has been replaced earlier for reasons otherthan it being defective.

    Any car on which the odometer has beenreplaced or altered and the true mileage cannotbe determined.

    Any car on which the Vehicle IdentificationNumber (VIN) is altered and/or cannot bedetermined.

    Should you have difficulty in obtaining theapplicable warranty service from a tiremanufacturer, your authorized BMW center willassist you in resolving the situation.

    12Volt BatteryCare

    Battery posts, terminals and relatedaccessories contain lead and lead

    compounds; chemicals know to the State ofCalifornia to cause cancer.

    If your vehicle is driven only for short distances ofless than 10 miles over a prolonged period oftime, without an occasional drive at highwayspeeds, the engine’s charging system will notmaintain the battery. Insufficient use of thevehicle could result in short-term startingproblems and, in the long term, could damagethe battery.

    In case your vehicle will not be operated forseveral weeks, it is advisable to:� consider using a proper trickle charger,

    following the charger manufacturer’sinstructions, to maintain the battery’s state ofcharge; or

    � consult your authorized BMW center oranother qualified service center regardingbattery removal. Once removed, the batterymust be charged and stored in a cool, dryplace where it can be protected from freezing.If the battery will be stored for over 3 months, itmust be recharged every 3 months, or else itwill become damaged and useless.

    Please consult with your authorized BMW centeror another qualified service center for furtherguidance and information.

    Corrosion Protection

    Extensive corrosion protection measuresimplemented by BMW nowmake it possible tooffer a 12-year unlimited mileage anti-corrosionwarranty against rust perforation on your vehicleprovided that the vehicle is properly maintained.Information on proper maintenance is available inthis Booklet and your vehicle’s Owner’s Manual.

    The major degree of corrosion protection is dueto the electrophoretic dip painting process whichcathodically deposits paint particles on all bodyparts, attracting paint particles into the minutestcavities or seams. Body parts are designed toprovide optimum corrosion protection.

    During manufacture, metal exterior body partsreceive an additional corrosion protection coat.Hood, trunk, doors and other body parts arecoated with PVC and sealed from the outside.

    All floor panels receive a resilient coating of PVCfor maximum protection against damage due tostones, etc.

    Corrosion protection materials tested over manyyears are applied to the surfaces of cavities andto the entire underside of the vehicle during andafter assembly.

    For additional information on the 12-yearunlimited mileage anti-corrosion warranty, seethe section of this Booklet on page 4.

  • Restoring corrosion protection

    Please take care that anti-corrosion material isreplaced when your car is repaired after body orchassis damage.

    Underbodymaintenance

    The underbody has to be cleaned at least once ayear, in Spring, with plain water in order toremove mud, chemical sediments and otherdeposits. If those materials are not removed,corrosion (rust) will occur on metal components.

    Your authorized BMW center can do thisanti-corrosion service for you.

    Do not apply additional undercoating orrust-proofing on or near the exhaust

    manifold, exhaust pipes, catalytic converter or heatshields. During driving, the substance used forundercoating could overheat and cause a fire.

    Gasoline Engines—Fuel Quality

    Use fuels advertised to have adequatedetergency and low alcohol (such as ethanol)content. Please refer to your Owner’s Manual forimportant information on the fuel recommendedfor use in your vehicle. Use of fuels withinsufficient detergent and/or excess alcohol cancause driveability problems that necessitatecleaning intake valves and fuel injection valves,and, when applicable, adjusting the engine idle.We recommend having this work performed byyour authorized BMW center or another qualifiedservice center, perhaps while regularmaintenance is performed. Your authorized BMWcenter can also recommend a gasoline additivethat will provide sufficient detergency. Thisrecommended, unscheduled maintenance,which may be necessitated by use ofinappropriate fuels, is not required in order tomaintain the emission warranty. It also is notcovered by your vehicle’s warranty because nodefect in material or workmanship or componentfailure is involved.

    A reasonable number of attempts is generallydefined as (i) four or more attempts to repair thesame defect (the number of attempts vary bystate) or (ii) the vehicle is out of service by reasonof one or more repair(s) for more than acumulative total of 30 days (this period varies bystate), except for delays created by conditionsbeyond our control.

BBBAUTO LINE will usually render a decision within40 days from the time you file your complaint.The decision is binding on BMWNA if youdecide to accept it.     4. In order to file a claim with BBB AUTO LINE,you will have to provide your name andaddress, the brand name and VehicleIdentification Number (VIN) of your vehicle,and a statement of the nature of yourproblem or complaint.     5. BBB AUTO LINE staff may try to help resolveyour dispute through mediation. If mediationis not successful, or if you do not wish toparticipate in mediation, claims within theprogram’s jurisdiction may be presented toan arbitrator at an informal hearing. Thearbitrator’s decision should ordinarily beissued within 40 days from the time yourcomplaint is filed; there may be a delay of7 days if you did not first contact BMWNAabout your problem, or a delay of up to30 days if the arbitrator requests aninspection/report by an impartial technicalexpert or further investigation and report byBBB AUTO LINE.

California Civil Code Section 1793.2(d)requires that, if BMWNA or its representativeis unable to repair a new motor vehicle toconform to the vehicle’s applicable expresswarranty after a reasonable number ofattempts, BMWNAmay be required toreplace or repurchase the vehicle. CaliforniaCivil Code Section 1793.22(b) creates apresumption that BMWNA has had areasonable number of attempts to conformthe vehicle to its applicable expresswarranties if, within 18 months from deliveryto the buyer or 18,000 miles on the vehicle’sodometer, whichever occurs first, one ormore of the following occurs:

    • The same nonconformity [a failure toconform to the written warranty thatsubstantially impairs the use, value or safetyof the vehicle] results in a condition that islikely to cause death or serious bodily injuryif the vehicle is driven AND thenonconformity has been subject to repairtwo or more times by BMWNA or its agentsAND the buyer or lessee has directlynotified BMWNA of the need for the repairof the nonconformity; OR

    • The same nonconformity has been subjectto repair 4 or more times by BMWNA or itsagents AND the buyer has notified BMWNAof the need for the repair of thenonconformity; OR

    • The vehicle is out of service by reason ofrepair of nonconformities by BMWNA or itsagents for a cumulative total of more than30 calendar days after delivery of the vehicleto the buyer.

    Owner’s Eligibility

    You are covered if your vehicle is:� A new BMW automobile, distributed by

    EmergencyValet Service. Should there be aneed beyond BMWRoadside Assistance,Emergency Valet service will provide a personalassistant who will help in every way to get you toyour final destination. Emergency Valet servicewill help you locate a rental car or taxi agency,hotel or even help procure airline reservations. Inthe event of an emergency, this service will assistyou in getting information out to the proper party,whether it is business or personal. If we areunable to contact one of your party, the messagerelay service will document the information, andwill make reasonable efforts to deliver themessage to the message recipient.

    Personal Trip Routing. Leave the planning tous. Simply give one of our Roadside Assistanceservice representatives a call, and we will provideyou with a detailed, easy-to-read, computerizedtrip itinerary and companion map package.Please allow up to two weeks to process yourrequest.

    Services

    From the information you provide, the BMWRoadside Assistance service representative willdetermine the type of help required.

    Dispatch Service

    A service provider will be dispatched to the siteof your disabled vehicle.

    On-Site Assistance

    On-site service for vehicle disablements, such asflat tires, dead batteries, and out of fuelconditions, is provided up to a maximum of$100.00 per incident by BMWRoadsideAssistance.

    The cost for parts and fuel, when used on-site, isthe responsibility of the owner/driver. The NewVehicle Limited Warranty does not cover any ofthe above on-site services.

    Lock-Out

    Your BMW is equipped with an advanced entrysystem, which cannot be bypassed by traditionallocksmith methods without significant damage toyour vehicle. However, in the event that you findyourself locked out, a simple telephone call toRoadside Assistance will help you get back onthe road. A representative will help you findtransportation or arrange towing service to thenearest authorized BMW center. Related towingcosts will be compensated up to $100.00 perincident. You, or the person driving your vehicle,are responsible for any expenses related toreplacement keys.

    Towing Service

    In the event of a mechanical breakdown normallycovered under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty,your vehicle will be transported (at no cost) to thenearest authorized BMW center. Towing to thenearest authorized BMW center is also coveredin the event of an accident or collision.

    If a breakdown occurs after normal businesshours, your vehicle will be transported to a securelocation and transported to the nearestauthorized BMW center on the next businessday.

    If you request that the vehicle be taken to alocation other than the nearest authorized BMWcenter, any additional expense will be yourresponsibility.

    However, you may request (at no cost) to betaken to a different authorized BMW center aslong as it is within 50 additional miles of the“nearest” authorized BMW center.

  • Towing requests for vehicles disabled because ofcasualty, fire, act of God, or violation of law(federal, state or local) are provided at theexpense of the owner/driver.

    If it is necessary for you to have your vehicletowed through your own arrangements, youmust contact BMWRoadside Assistance forprior authorization and instructions on claimprocedures. All claims must be submitted withinsixty (60) days of the disablement or occurrence,accompanied by the original receipts. Claimsreceived after that time period may bedishonored and are subject to the full discretionof BMWRoadside Assistance. If BMWRoadsideAssistance is not contacted for “prior”authorization, the maximum coverage for towingis $100.00.

    Sign-and-Drive

    Typically, if you are within the terms of yourwarranty, the services you receive under theBMWRoadside Assistance program will notrequire payment. In most cases, you will simplysign a receipt from the provider of services.

    Trip Interruption Benefits

    Trip interruption benefits are provided formechanical breakdowns as follows:� Breakdowns that are warranty related; and� Must occur in excess of 100 miles from the

    driver’s primary residence; and� Repairs cannot be completed during normal

    business hours on the same day ofbreakdown.

    Reimbursements will be made for meals, lodging,car rentals, and alternate transportation to bringthe driver and the BMW automobile togetherafter the vehicle has been repaired by anauthorized BMW center. Original receipts mustaccompany all reimbursement requests.

    Trip interruption coverage is limited to $1,000.00per incident, for a maximum of five days perincident.

    Always contact BMWRoadside Assistance fortrip interruption benefits. They will assist inmaking all the necessary arrangements.
