MORE!

Was ist die MORE! Cyber Homework?

Die MORE!

Die MORE! Cyber Homework online –

So sieht die MORE!

Cyber Homework

Browser (z.B. Google Chrome, Firefox) ist geeignet.

Reading1 Read the text. Then choose the correct answers.

Doctors in the bush

Last year, Matt and his family were camping in a

National Park in southeastern Australia. One day

Matt’s son hurt his eye badly. Matt did some first aid,

but there was no hospital for miles. So Matt called the

Flying Doctors and half an hour later, he and his son were on an aircraft to the nearest hospital.

The doctors gave his son drugs to help with the pain until he got to Adelaide.

“We live in Sydney, so I never thought we might need the Flying Doctors one day,” Matt said.

“It’s a fantastic organisation, and one that will help you, wherever you are.”

1 Why did the aircraft take Matt’s son to

Adelaide?

Because that’s where Matt lived.

Because that’s where the nearest

medical services were.

Reading1 Read the interview below quickly. Which sentence is true?

Presenter Hello and welcome to Teen Views. The topic of this week’s show is collections. When

I was a kid, my friends and I used to collect all kinds of things: stamps, football cards,

comics, different kinds of toys … But is collecting things still popular with young

people today? Our first caller is Daisy. Hi, Daisy, do you think young people still collect

things?

Daisy Yes, I think they do, but the things that they collect are different. None of my friends

collect stamps or comics, for example.

Presenter So what do people collect?

Daisy Well, my friends and I collect stickers.

Presenter Stickers? But kids have always collected stickers, haven’t they?

Daisy Yes, but I don’t mean paper stickers. I mean stickers for my phone. I use them in

messages.

Presenter Oh, I see! Of course! So how many stickers have you got?

Daisy I’ve got about 200. I didn’t start my collection long ago. Some of my friends have got

more than 500.

Presenter And is it expensive?

Daisy No, not at all. That’s one of the best things about it. They’re often free. Sometimes you

have to buy them, but they only cost about one or two pounds for about 30 stickers.

Presenter That sounds great. Thanks for calling, Daisy. Next, we’ve got Leon. Hello, Leon, do you

collect anything?

Leon Yes, I do. I collect old records.

Presenter But today you can download any song that you like and listen to it. It’s easy! Why do

you need records?

Leon Well, I don’t need them – because I download a lot of music – but I love collecting

them! Some of my albums have amazing pictures on the front. And on the back, there’s

a list of all the songs, with information about who wrote and performed them. You

don’t get that with downloads.

Presenter I suppose that’s true. So, what made you start collecting records?

Leon My dad gave me some of his old records. I thought they were really interesting, so I

started going to markets and second-hand shops and collecting more of them.

Presenter That’s a great story. Thanks for telling us about your collection, Leon.

Daisy and Leon are on a TV show.

Daisy and Leon are on a radio show.

Daisy and Leon are in an online chat room.

Reading1 Read about the kids’ collections. Then write the names of the people below.

I find them on beaches or on walks in the mountains. One thing that will surprise you when you start looking for them is that you find unusual ones everywhere. I found my favourite one when I was on holiday in Italy. It’s black with lots of tiny holes in it. I think it came from a volcano.Ben

I’ve got about 70 of these. Sometimes I buy them from music shops or online, but usually, I get them as presents. This one is really special. I got it when I was watching my favourite band at a concert. The guitarist threw it into the crowd and I caught it! Alisha

I’ve got about 30 in my collection, but this is my favourite one – it’s the Manchester United one. My cousin went to Barcelona last month and he got me theirs. I wear it at the weekend, especially if it’s hot. It keeps the sun off my face.Toby

Most people send texts or post messages online when they’re on holiday, but I think these are much more interesting. I have a group of friends at school and we all send them to each other when we go to interesting places. I also use a site online: I post one to someone in another country and then I get one back! Carla

They’re not just fun to collect – they’re useful and fashionable, too. I like to buy them in different colours so that I always have one that matches what I’m wearing. My favourite is purple and it’s made of beautiful fabric. I use this on special occasions, like going to the theatre.Maya

There are about 150 of them in my collection and I’ve had some of them since I was about six. When I find an unusual one, I buy it. They usually cost less than a pound. I put my favourite ones on my backpack or my jacket.Oscar

Paul Hello and welcome to our podcast about male body image. I’m psychologist Paul Yardley

and our guest today is Luke. Luke, body image has been a big issue for you, hasn’t it?

Luke Yes, that’s right. As a young child, I was always a bit overweight, but this only became a

big problem for me when I started to use social media.

Paul And why was that?

Luke Everyone always looks perfect in their photos – great skin, great hair, very slim. I wasn’t

like that at all.

Paul A lot of people spend a long time on their appearance before they take a selfie, of course.

Luke I know. And they often edit the photos afterwards! But I didn’t think about that at the time.

I just wanted to be like the people I saw in photos.

Paul So what did you do?

Luke I started to go to the gym. It was great to begin with. I was much happier because I was

fitter and healthier.

Paul So what went wrong?

Luke I suppose I became obsessed. I went to the gym more and more often. I knew I looked

better than I did before, but I never thought I looked good enough.

Paul And how did your parents feel?

Luke They were really worried. I wasn’t spending any time with my family or my friends.

Paul So when did things change?

Luke When I saw an old school friend in town. He was shocked by the way I looked. I realised

I had a problem.

Paul So how is your life different now?

Luke Well, I don’t exercise so much. Now I go to the gym once or twice a week, instead of every

day. I also make sure I see friends.

Paul Thanks for sharing your story with us, Luke – and thank you to our listeners. If you need

more information about the issues we’ve discussed today, you can go to our website.

Vocabulary4 Read the text and choose the correct word.

Body decorations

We don’t only wear things to be 1 fashionable / in trouble.

Sometimes there are 2 in common / religious reasons for the

things we wear, e.g. when some women cover their heads.

Certain things we wear also show that we are 3 a health risk /

rebellious, for example, when young people go against their

parents’ wishes. Young people started having nose and other

body 4 insults / piercings for this reason, but after a while,

these became fashions, and no longer symbols of protest.

Many fashions also have a long history: using coloured ink to paint 5 needles / tattoos on the skin, for

example, was first popular 5,000 years ago!

In the past, people believed that body decorations were a symbol of how much money you had. Wearing

gold rings in your ears showed your 6 wealth / victory. And sailors believed that one day, when they

died, their gold earrings would pay for their 7 weddings / funerals. The ancient Egyptians believed that

making holes in your tongue for jewellery, showed that you could 8 nod / communicate better with the

gods.

So, when your parents tell you that your idea of body decoration is ‘nothing new’ – they are actually

right!

Reading1 Read the text and decide what it is. Then do the task below.

It’s nine o’clock in the morning and Jenny Graham is opening her shop. “How many customers are you expecting today?” I ask. “Just one,” she replies. “This tattoo is going to take a long time. It’s something special.” Just then, Jenny’s customer arrives. She’s a young woman in her twenties, called Rachel. Jenny fetches her design: a colourful image of two birds above a field of flowers. “I’m getting this tattoo for my wedding,” Rachel tells me. “It’s beautiful,” I say. “Is the bridegroom having one, too?” “He’s having the same design as me. We’re not going to have a traditional wedding. I’m not going to wear a wedding dress and he’s not likely to wear a wedding suit! We’re not even having wedding rings. You might lose your wedding ring – there’s no chance of that with a tattoo.” “Will any of the other guests have tattoos?” I ask. “None of the guests are getting a tattoo especially for the wedding,” Rachel laughs.

“But my bridesmaid has an amazing tattoo of a sunflower on her arm.”

Jenny asks Rachel to lie down and get comfortable. It’s a good idea – she will be here for six hours and it’s unlikely that she’ll move much in that time. While Jenny works on Rachel’s tattoo, I ask her more about her job. “Is there anything that you refuse to do?” “I won’t do tattoos in a foreign language if the alphabet is different from ours – for example, Japanese. It’s so easy to make a mistake. You could end up with a completely different message from the one you wanted!” Rachel agrees, “When you have a tattoo, it’s something that you’re going to have for the rest of your life. You want to be proud of it.”

And, several hours later, when she walks out of the shop, that’s exactly how she feels.
