MORE 1000 GLORY FOR BALLYDOYLE
The Curragh=s Saturday card was run on real Galileo (Ire)
ground and so it was with a degree of predictability that his sole
representative in the G1 Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas Peaceful
(Ire) relished the fast going to bring up a second fillies= Classic in
less than a week for Ballydoyle. It proved a momentous renewal
for Michael Tabor, who saw the first three home carry his silks,
for the supersire who was surpassing Danehill with a record
85th Group 1 winner, and also for the O=Brien family with Aidan,
Donnacha and Joseph responsible for the first four. Last seen
finishing runner-up in Newmarket=s Listed Montrose Fillies= S. in
November, the TDN Rising Star was placed in a close-up second
by Seamie Heffernan early before beginning to edge ahead from
the two pole. In effect, the race was decided there and then
with Peaceful=s stamina assured and at the line the 3-1 second
favourite had two lengths to spare over the strong-closing Fancy
Blue (Ire) (Deep Impact {Jpn}), with So Wonderful (War Front) a
head back in third. Albigna (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}), the strongly-
supported 6-5 favourite, was only sixth.
AShe had been very impressive in her homework and I did
fancy her here,@ commented Heffernan, who was enjoying a
fourth renewal which makes him the winningmost modern-day
rider in this Classic. AShe did what she was showing us at home.
I=ve got myself beaten plenty of times by trying to be clever, so I
was comfortable where I was. From four down, I gradually
stepped up the pace and whatever was going to get me had to
make up three lengths. Like Love (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), she=s tidy
and a good mover and is definitely tough enough to go to Royal
Ascot next week. She could be anything.@ Cont. p2
RECORD ENSHRINES LEGEND OF GALILEOBy Chris McGrath
And still the arrow holds its course: that perfect blaze, tapered
down from the fletching between his eyes until opening into the
neatly pointed tip above his nostrils. His whole life has seemed
to obey the inexorable momentum implied in that warpaint.
Ever onwards, ever upwards. Sure enough, with perhaps the
most telling of all his records secured outright by his daughter
Peaceful (Ire) in the G1 Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas on
Saturday, Galileo (Ire) maintains his unwavering trajectory even
into the evening of his career.
With another spring of undiminished virility behind him, at 22,
Galileo could well elevate this latest benchmark--the 85th elite
scorer of his stud career--beyond the reach of any future
paragon. Even if pensioned tomorrow, Galileo would have four
crops still to enter the fray; all, naturally, produced by mares of
due eligibility. As such, even a century of Group 1 winners seems
perfectly within his embrace.

G1 Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas Cont.
Aidan O=Brien, who was saddling a ninth Irish 1000 winner as
he continues to rewrite the record books, has Saturday=s G1
Coronation S. in mind for Peaceful. AShe=s a lovely filly and we
always thought a lot of her,@ he said. AHer work had been lovely
and when the other filly did that at Newmarket we were looking
forward to today. She is very like Love, in that she is very
uncomplicated and Seamus gave her a lovely ride. It was a big
help that the ground was nice and she shouldn=t have had too
hard a race. We=ll see what the lads want to do on Monday and
although she=ll definitely get a mile and a quarter, she=s a strong
uncomplicated miler who gets it well so the Coronation is
possible.@
Peaceful started out over seven furlongs at Leopardstown in
August and after reportedly becoming upset in the stalls was
coaxed into ninth by Heffernan behind fellow TDN Rising Star
Ridenza (Ire) (Sea the Stars {Ire}), who was a late absentee from
this renewal due to the prevalent quick ground. After a near
two-month break, she re-emerged to show her true merit when
the seven-length winner of a mile maiden on yielding-to-soft
ground at Thurles in which stablemate Snow (Ire) (Galileo {Ire})
who scored on this card was 11 lengths behind in fourth. Taken
to Newmarket for the Montrose, she was beaten a neck by the
newcomer Born With Pride (Ire) (Born To Sea {Ire}) on heavy
ground as Run Wild (Ger) (Amaron {GB}) finished 1 1/4 lengths
off them.
After Run Wild and Ballydoyle=s leading lady Love had caused
their own respective sensations at Newmarket the previous
Sunday, Peaceful was moving up the ante-post market as this
race neared despite the presence of the G1 Prix Marcel Boussac
winner Albigna. After the rain failed to arrive in sufficient
quantity to deny the top-of-the-ground merchants, the early
signs on the fixture pointed to her more and more as the
evening wore on. With the aforementioned Snow and Salsa (Ire)
battling out the fillies= maiden and Lancaster House (Ire) taking
the G3 Gladness S. by storm, it was a case of Galileo truly being
in his counting house by the time Peaceful arrived to post.
Denied the lead by Jessie Harrington=s second-string and G3
Oh So Sharp S. runner-up Valeria Messalina (Ire) (Holy Roman
Emperor {Ire}), Heffernan was nevertheless in an ideal spot and
he applied the pressure to that rival to keep up as he turned the
screw passing halfway. Responding to a light flick with the whip
to assert from two out, the winner was soon beyond reach as
Fancy Blue unwound a stirring closing effort out wide from rear
under Declan McDonogh. Due an upgrade racing against the bias
that often comes into play on this track when it is riding fast, the
runner-up played her part in a remarkable O=Brien family
whitewash completed by Joseph=s fourth-placed New York Girl
(Ire) (New Approach {Ire}).
O=Brien, Sr. was left marvelling yet again at the power of the
Galileo factor. ADonnacha loved her when he won on her in
Thurles last year and then she went to Newmarket and couldn=t
walk a yard in the heavy ground, but still kept fighting and
wasn=t beaten far at the line. That=s the sign of a really good filly,
she just wouldn=t lie down. They are Galileo fillies and we are
just so lucky to have them. They are beautifully-bred, big, rangy,
scopey fillies and they get better and better. So Wonderful ran
well to finish third. I don=t think she=ll get much further. She=s
still a maiden, so we could always go back and try and win her
maiden with her.@ Cont. p3

Racing Post
Pedigree Notes Peaceful=s dam Missvinski (Stravinsky) was successful in the
Listed Prix Zeddaan and Listed Prix Ronde de Nuit sprints on turf
and all-weather before finishing shaking up the high-class
Darjina (Fr) (Zamindar) when runner-up in the 2007 G1 Prix
d=Astarte. Her second foal was this stable=s Listed Hurry Harriet
S. winner and triple Group 3-placed Easter (Ire) by Galileo who
was bought by Eaton Bloodstock for 800,000gns at last year=s
Tattersalls December Sale. The third dam Careless Aly (Alydar) is
an unraced full-sister to the GI Turf Classic hero and G1 Epsom
Derby-placed Cacoethes, as well as being kin to the GI Santa
Susanna S. winner Fabulous Notion (Somethingfabulous). She is
in turn the dam of the GI Test S. heroine Fabulously Fast (Deputy

Galileo Cont. from p1
The breed, then, can already count a relative longevity among
the many Galileo assets to which it is indebted. Danehill, with
whom he had previously shared the record, died in a paddock
accident at 17. And Montjeu (Ire), the son of Sadler's Wells who
contested the succession most ardently with Galileo, was lost
through septicaemia complications at 16. Happily, their sire set a
more hopeful example, having been retired from stud duty only
at 27.
Those names, among very few of the modern era eligible for
the same pantheon, all attest to the presiding genius behind
Galileo. For Sadler's Wells, Danehill and Montjeu were three
other bastions of the revolution in commercial breeding inspired
by John Magnier and his partners at Coolmore.
Magnier's acumen as a breeder and dealer, of course, has
been consecutively complemented by two other horsemen
united by a comparable genius, the same surname, and the
same stable. His father-in-law Vincent O'Brien was integral to
the original transfusion of dynamic American blood into a
stagnant European gene pool, most notably through Northern
Dancer--sire and grandsire, respectively, of Sadler's Wells and
Danehill. In Ballydoyle's modern epoch, of course, Peaceful's
trainer Aidan O'Brien has proved no less relentless an achiever.
Posterity, in absorbing the impact on the Stud Book of Sadler's
Wells and then Galileo, will have a convenient brand for the
respective O'Brien eras. On the track, admittedly, Sadler's Wells
did not seem to belong to the very first echelon of Ballydoyle
champions. Indeed, Jim Bolger remembers getting into the lift at
The Curragh after the horse had just won the Irish 2,000
Guineas, finding Vincent O'Brien there, and detecting a hint of
bemusement in response to his congratulations.
And it was Bolger himself, of course, who later played a pivotal
role in the Galileo story.

GALILEO HAS BEEN AN IMPECCABLE
INFLUENCE, GIVING A PRICELESS
GLAMOUR TO ATTRIBUTES–STAMINA,
CONSTITUTION, COURAGE AND SHEER
CLASSIC QUALITY–THAT WERE FALLING
PERILOUSLY OUT OF FAVOUR.
Galileo Cont.
Quite apart from his contribution as mentor to Aidan O'Brien,
Bolger famously bet the bank on Galileo even as the early vibes
were so discouraging that his opening fee of i60,000 had been
cut to i37,500. When duly coming up with Teofilo (Ire) and
New Approach (Ire), moreover,
Bolger also sold access to
Coolmore's most precious
bloodline to the farm's habitual
antagonists in Dubai. And that, in
turn, has opened new branches
of the Galileo dynasty--as in the
case of 2018 Derby winner Masar
(Ire) (New Approach {Ire}).
In fact, we have reached the
point where lines through
Galileo, Montjeu and Galileo's
half-brother Sea The Stars (Ire)
(Cape Cross {Ire}) have almost saturated the Classic endeavours
of elite European operations. Certainly it has become incumbent
on Coolmore, with so many of Galileo's daughters in their
paddocks, to renew precisely the kind of overseas experiments
that produced Sadler's Wells and company in the first place.
Their search for a viable outcross has, once again, brought
benefits for many others in Europe. War Front and Scat Daddy
duly made their names as international influences, much like
Storm Cat before them; and the early signs are that American
Pharoah will transfer his ability to carry dirt speed onto grass.
Others, equally, have been able to share the formula evolved by
Coolmore to sharpen Galileo's
genetic preponderance towards
stamina. With faster and faster
mates, Galileo has increasingly
broadened his repertoire to the
extent that contributors to this
new record include many
juveniles, milers and even a
Group 1 winner at six furlongs in
Clemmie (Ire). In demanding
ground, moreover, his son Gustav
Klimt (Ire) came within a length
of landing an elite sprint for older
horses when third in the G1 Haydock Sprint Cup in 2018.
The ultimate dividend from sprinting mares, however, has
obviously been Frankel (GB)--whose own spectacular start at
stud suggests that Coolmore, having kept the premier heir to
Sadler's Wells inside the corral, may not have managed to
repeat that trick. Cont. p6

Galileo=s peerless Frankel | Racing Post
Galileo Cont.
Frankel, of course, is out of a Danehill mare and Juddmonte, to
be fair, probably felt that his advent represented a courteous
reciprocation after the sale of his damsire, at the end of his
racing career, to stand at Coolmore.
This is not the place to debate the substance or otherwise of
"crossing" sire-lines. It goes without saying that the Danehill
mares sent to Galileo could only have been talented and/or
well-bred, and the input of another great stallion should pretty
reliably produce plenty of good runners as a result. Whether or
not any specific affinity should be implied, it is not hard to
accept that a little bit of Danzig pep could logically bring useful
equilibrium to the staying power associated with Sadler's Wells.
Regardless, as things stand 15 of Galileo's 85 Group 1/Grade I
scorers are out of daughters of Danehill. Of the dozen best on
official ratings, however, only Frankel represents this supposedly
alchemical formula.
There are, of course, manifold other genetic strands entwined
in every pedigree. When
Magnier bought him, for
instance, the appeal of Danehill
himself was doubtless
heightened by the replication of
Natalma on both sides of his
pedigree: as third dam, and also
as the mother of Danzig's sire
Northern Dancer.
As one of the few mares in the
breed's history to stand
comparison with Natalma,
Galileo's dam Urban Sea
(Miswaki) must also be
staunchly defended against any clumsy inference that he
inherited the Sadler's Wells dominions simply by paternal
succession.
For Urban Sea, not Galileo, is the true monarch of Epsom in
the 21st Century, having divided her influence there through her
other great son Sea The Stars (Ire); not to forget her
great-granddaughter Khawlah (Ire), who is by the same sire as
Sea The Stars and gave the family another Derby winner a
couple of years ago in Masar.
Masar's luminous distinction, in being inbred 3x4 to Urban Sea,
was predictably given less attention than the fact that he carries
exactly the same imprint of Ahonoora (GB). By the same token,
it surely behooves us to ask whether less familiar genetic
strands behind Urban Sea may have contributed to her legacy.
The German family is by now well familiar, decorated as it also is
by the likes of King's Best (Kingmambo) and Tamayuz (GB)
(Nayef); but even Bolger has professed perplexed curiosity as to
the sire of Galileo's third dam, a forgotten grandson of Tesio's
charismatic Donatello (Ity) named Espresso (GB).
Enough dredging the past; let's look ahead. Even the greatest
empire has its frontiers. Are there still uncharted deserts Galileo
can colonise?
Well, of course. Most obviously, his perennial multiple
representation in the Derby makes Galileo highly eligible to
claim outright the record of four winners he currently shares
with Montjeu, as well as Blandford, Cyllene, Waxy and Sir Peter
Teazle. And there is unfinished business, also, with his own sire.
Sadler's Wells was champion sire of Britain and Ireland 14 times;
Galileo has so far managed 11 titles. As we've already said,
however, he has plenty of ammunition still to be unloaded.
It is the horse from whom he claimed this latest record,
however, who perhaps makes Galileo look to his laurels.
Danehill, in addition to his three domestic titles, was champion
sire of Australia nine times; and the dynasties he founded there,
as a shuttling pioneer, make him one of the breed's all-time
game-changers.
Galileo, notoriously, made less
of an impression after five
sojourns in the Hunter Valley
early in his stud career resulted
in three locally-bred Group 1
winners, but a further six
imports from the North have
thus far brought his tally in
Australasia to nine. Nor has he
matched the diverse reach of El
Prado (Ire), the principal conduit
of their sire in America. Though
El Prado and his son Kitten's Joy
conform to the Sadler's Wells profile as unequivocal turf
stallions, and Galileo ran that way when rolling the dice on dirt
at the Breeders' Cup, Medaglia d'Oro has parlayed his
inheritance onto dirt both as a runner and a sire; and the El
Prado line has also diversified to produce sprinters as fast as
Astern, Artie Schiller and Bobby's Kitten.
Frankel, it must be said, had a running style tailor made for
dirt. Perhaps his own stock, who have shown a similar tendency
to carry speed, may yet be given that chance. (His brother Noble
Mission already has a top-class dirt runner in Code Of Honor.) As
it is, however, the single deficiency in Galileo's historic career
might be a failure to translate his breed-shaping influence
beyond a known, congenial environment. He has not matched
the geographical reach of Danehill, nor straddled disciplines like
El Prado's sons.
But these are the imperfections sewn into the Persian carpet,
against any presumption of divinity. Cont. p7

Magic Wand | Racing Post
Galileo Cont.
Galileo has been an impeccable influence, giving a priceless
glamour to attributes--stamina, constitution, courage and sheer
Classic quality--that were falling perilously out of favour. What
that would have meant, without him, is easy to see. Just look at
the ostensible "commercial" sector in Europe: it is dominated by
precocious sprinting blood, generally without the faintest
pretension to breeding a Classic racehorse.
To that extent, Galileo and his clan have actually profited from
an increasingly clear run, above all at Epsom, a target in effect
renounced by any breeder favouring "commercial" types over
stallions eligible to challenge the Derby/Oaks hegemony. The
same is largely true even of the mile Classics, but Kitten's Joy has
reminded us all--from severely limited opportunities in Europe--
that there are alternatives to defeatism.
As it is, however, let's celebrate an emperor who remains
gloriously in his pomp. For so long as people still breed
Thoroughbreds, the legacy of Galileo will be honoured. And
whatever else Peaceful goes on to achieve, her name will be
preserved in the annals primarily for this latest seal on the
prowess of her sire. For Galileo has redefined the very nature of
the elite European racehorse--and immeasurably for the better.
MAGIC WAND WRAPS UP GALILEO
CURRAGH TREBLE Left with only three rivals to contend with as Saturday=s G2
Lanwades Stud S. cut up, the well-journeyed Magic Wand (Ire)
(Galileo {Ire}) enjoyed a rare easy time bringing up a group-race
treble on The Curragh card for her sire, owner, trainer and
jockey. Settled second early with Silk Forest (Ire) (Kodiac {GB})
forcing it, the 4-5 favourite was shaken up by Seamie Heffernan
passing the four-furlong pole and soon had command en route
to a 4 1/2-length dismissal of Hamariyna (Ire) (Sea the Moon
{Ger}).
AShe=s a class mare who had been working well,@ her rider said.
AShe has been doing things very right and I was very confident.@
Very little needs to be added to the common knowledge that
Magic Wand is a supremely tough, durable and unflappable
performer at the highest level around the world. It is two years
since she took Royal Ascot by storm when beating Wild Illusion
(GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) by four lengths in the G2 Ribblesdale S. on
her favoured fast surface and in the interim she has placed nine
times in Group/Grade I company internationally and finally
gained the success in that company that she deserved in
Flemington=s G1 Mackinnon S. in November. Unperturbed by a
failed try on dirt when ninth in the Feb. 29 Saudi Cup, the bay
was remarkably winning for the first time on home soil having
only raced in her native country on five prior occasions and for
the first time over this trip.
Aidan O=Brien said, AShe=s a lovely mare. We had her in at
Ascot, but we were afraid of the ground getting soft and didn=t
want to wait. It was a lovely race for her here and it=s nice to get
her started back. She could go to the [G1] Eclipse [at Sandown
July 5] or the [G1] Pretty Polly. She=s an unbelievable mare. She
hadn=t run over a mile since her debut. Up to now she has
travelled a lot, but that was all cancelled so she=s been kind of
waiting there a while and that=s why we just wanted to get her
out. She loves that nice fast ground, she doesn=t like soft.@
Pedigree Notes A half-sister to the G1 Irish Oaks heroine and G1 Prix de Diane
runner-up Chicquita (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire}), who is herself the dam
of the G3 Silver Flash S.-placed Secret Thoughts (War Front), as
well as to the G3 Prix de Royaumont third Je Ne Regretterien
(GB) by Galileo, Magic Wand has significantly enhanced the
reputation of her listed-winning dam Prudenzia (Ire) (Dansili
{GB}). Her i420,000 Arqana August graduate Enemy (GB)
(Muhaarar {GB}) is a well-regarded 3-year-old colt from the John
Gosden stable, while her 2-year-old daughter of Dubawi (Ire)
topped that auction last year when selling for i1.625million to
Godolphin. Now named Philomene (Ire), she is followed by a
yearling full-brother to Magic Wand.
Prudenzia=s dam Platonic (GB) (Zafonic) also produced the G3
Prix de Lutece scorer Pacifique (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire}) and the
recent Listed Lingfield Derby Trial winner and current Epsom
Derby favourite English King (Fr) (Camelot {GB}). This is the
esteemed family of the G1 Epsom Oaks, Irish Oaks and Yorkshire
Oaks heroine Alexandrova (Ire) by Galileo=s sire Sadler=s Wells,
the G1 Cheveley Park S. winner Magical Romance (Ire) (Barathea
{Ire}) and G1 Melbourne Cup hero Rekindling (GB) (High

LANCASTER HOUSE DOMINATES THE
GLADNESS Prior to the exploits of stablemates Peaceful (Ire) and Magic
Wand (Ire) on The Curragh=s Saturday evening card, Lancaster
House (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) was forcefully kick-starting the
momentum as he registered an all-the-way win in the G3

last term at or around nine furlongs, the bay had garnered the
Listed Listowel S. on soft ground five days before finishing
seventh in Leopardstown=s G2 Solonaway S. over a mile on the
Irish Champion S. card. Still dangerously unexposed dropping to
seven furlongs for the first time here, the 6-4 second favourite
benefitted from Seamie Heffernan=s tactical prowess to establish
a clear lead from the outset and was never coming back to the
6-5 favourite Speak In Colours (GB) (Excelebration {Ire}).

He won over nine furlongs, so when you are back to seven on

backed up quick last year and on his last one he didn=t have
much time. He was working well and I had him in the Queen

CENTURY DREAM DYNAMIC IN THE DIOMED Newbury took on Epsom=s G3 Diomed S. on Saturday and the
contrast in terrain and slight change in race conditions did
nothing to faze Century Dream (Ire) (Cape Cross {Ire}) as he
repeated his 2018 success in the contest. Having undergone
wind surgery since his largely indifferent campaign last term,
Abdulla Belhabb=s 5-1 shot looked a revived character in every
sense as he made all under James Doyle to defeat the 11-8
favourite King of Comedy (Ire) (Kingman {GB}) and last year=s
Diomed winner Zaaki (GB) (Leroidesanimaux {Brz}) by 1 1/4
lengths and a nose. In doing so, he became the first group
winner in Britain to be trained by a partnership with Ed and
Simon Crisford celebrating the landmark. AI=m so pleased for the
horse, as he lost his way a little bit last year,@ son Ed
commented. AHe won this race two years ago at Epsom and he
did it really well today. We thought about the [G1] Queen Anne,
but as he hasn=t won since he won this race two years ago we
wanted him to get a bit of confidence.@
Providing Simon Crisford=s fledgling training career with a
major upturn when successful on Derby day two years ago,
Century Dream was in Group 1 company on three of his next
four starts and fared no worse than fourth with his best effort
coming when 3/4-of-a-length third behind Roaring Lion (Kitten=s
Joy) in Ascot=s G1 Queen Elizabeth II S. later that season. While
his 5-year-old campaign got off to a positive start when he was
runner-up in Meydan=s G2 Zabeel Mile last February, things just
didn=t click for him afterwards and the decision for surgery was
made after his disappointing fifth in the Listed Prix Lyphard on
Deauville=s Polytrack in November.
This was a smart effort in a race that did not lack depth and
the winner was giving last year=s G1 St James=s Palace S. runner-
up King of Comedy three pounds due to the race=s strange
penalty system. AThis race looked a suitable option, but it still
looked very hot with King of Comedy and Zaaki in it,@ Ed Crisford
added. AWhen the rain came yesterday, we thought this would
be perfect so we went for it. Hopefully we can now look for
some Group 2s and maybe Group 1s. He is one of those horses
you can take anywhere as long, as there is a bit of cut in the
ground. We took him to the Arlington Million two years ago and
it rained the whole week before, then it was rock-hard ground
on the day. He is one of those versatile horses you can take over
a mile anywhere.@
Pedigree Notes Century Dream was providing more success for his owner and
the dam Salacia (Ire) (Echo of Light {GB}), whose 4-year-old King
of Change (GB) (Farhh {GB}) was last year=s G1 Queen Elizabeth
II S. hero and G1 2000 Guineas runner-up. The second dam
Neptune=s Bride (Bering {GB}) annexed the G3 Prix Fille de l=Air
and is in turn a daughter of the G3 Prix de Ris-Orangis winner
Wedding of the Sea (Blushing Groom {Fr}). Also connected to
the game and tough, seven-times graded stakes-winning Hail
Hilarious (Fast Hilarious) and the California Oaks winner and GI
Santa Barbara H. runner-up Countess Fager (Dr. Fager), Salacia=s
3-year-old filly Banna (GB) (Pivotal {GB}) is as-yet unraced for
this yard. Her 2-year-old filly by Golden Horn (GB) is named
Royal Event (Ire), while she also has a yearling filly by Sea the

NAMOS ON TOP AT DRESDEN Having won back-to-back renewals of Baden-Baden=s G3
Silberne Peitsche May 23, Stall Namaskar=s Namos (Ger)
(Medicean {GB}) defied a penalty when coming late to deny
Zerostress (Ger) (Areion {Ger}) in Saturday=s G3 Grosser Preis
der Landeshauptstadt Dresden. Sent off the 6-5 favourite, the
bay tracked the leaders under Wladimir Panov and gave
typically generously to wear down that rival in the final strides
and record a head verdict.
Namos, who was also fifth behind Too Darn Hot (GB) (Dubawi
{Ire}) in the G1 Prix Jean Prat over seven furlongs at Deauville in
July and last of 15 in the 6 1/2-furlong G1 Prix Maurice de

Goldene Peitsche at Baden-Baden later that month. Third on his
return in the May 7 Listed Grosser Hannoverscher Sprintpreis,
he is now a triple group scorer and at the head of his country=s
sprinting division.

GANAY THE FEATURE ON FRANTIC SUNDAY Europe=s press to regain some sense of equilibrium shows no

FRANKEL=S SEVENTH KINGDOM A NEW
RISING STAR It took a while for the penny to drop, but when it did Prince
Faisal=s homebred Seventh Kingdom (GB) (Frankel {GB}) was a
class above going a shade over seven furlongs in Saturday=s
Betway Novice S. at Doncaster, earning a TDN Rising Star tag
with a daylight triumph. He was caught napping at the break,
but recovered to track the leaders in third after the initial
strides. Niggled along to keep his mind on the task at hand from
halfway, the well-backed 6-5 favourite swooped for control
passing the quarter-mile marker and lengthened further clear of
toiling rivals in the closing stages to outclass Longlai (Fr) (Shalaa
{Ire}) by a geared-down four lengths in taking fashion.
AHe=s got a very good mind, he=s a very laid-back horse in
general and that was a pleasing debut,@ said rider David Egan.
AHe was lucky in that they didn=t go a quick pace early on
because he was slowly away and quite green for the first half of
the race. It took him a while to get into his stride, but once he
did so in the last two furlongs he lengthened right away from
the field.@

30 debut at Sandown and exploded onto the scene with a Rising
Star of his own when upped to one mile in division one of
Saturday=s It=s Not Rocket Science With MansionBet Novice S. at
Newbury. The 15-8 second favourite was sharply into stride and
on the front end from the outset. In command on the bridle for
the most part, the response was immediate when shaken up
approacing the final furlong and he bounded clear in taking
fashion to easily account for previous winner Tsar (GB) (Kingman
{GB}) by an impressive 4 3/4 lengths.
AHe jumped on my foot when I was saddling him, so he has
redeemed himself well and the win has made me feel better,@
revealed in-form trainer Roger Varian. AWe liked him last year,

and it was a nice seasonal debut. We will see how he is in the

John Gosden again has a now-customary clutch of high-class
prospects among his 3-year-old fillies in 2020 and Juddmonte=s
Franconia was the latest to join in when winning this in the style
of a ready-made Oaks contender. Sent off the hot favourite
despite having only finished second in a seven-furlong novice at
Chelmsford in November, the homebred travelled strongly in a
share of third off the honest pace set by the leader of the main
pack Chamade behind the runaway Royal Nation (GB) (Nathaniel

Listed Abingdon Fillies= S. Cont.
Coming on strong approaching the two-furlong pole, the bay
half-sister to the G1 Nassau S. winner Winsili (GB) (Dansili {GB})
was in front soon after and drew away under Frankie Dettori to
leave TDN Rising Star Cabaletta in her wake.
AShe has come here from finishing second at Chelmsford last
year so it is all a bit of a jump, but we will see how she takes it
all as she is very young in her mind,@ trainer John Gosden said.
AHer sister was pretty lively and she is the same. There is plenty
of ability there, we will just see how we play it. You don=t
normally go from a second at Chelmsford to a listed. We have
just missed those two races prior to anything big. She has plenty
of ability, but she is highly-strung.@
Despite obvious talk of the G1 Epsom Oaks afterwards, her
handler was keen to play that down for now. AThe ability is there
as her sister Winsili won a Nassau, but we have just got to be
sensible how we handle her. I think the [G3] Musidora [at York
July 9] would be a logical step rather than launching straight into
the deep end.@
Franconia is now the third black-type winner for Winter
Sunrise (GB) (Pivotal {GB}) after the aforementioned Winsili and
the Norwegian listed scorer Backcountry (GB) (Oasis Dream
{GB}). The second dam is the G3 Prix d=Aumale runner-up
Winter Solstice (GB) (Unfuwain), who produced the G2 Prix
Greffulhe winner Ice Blue (GB) (Dansili {GB}) and is kin to four
stakes winners headed by the GI Manhattan H. hero Meteor
Storm (GB) (Bigstone {Ire}) and the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic
scorer Polish Summer (GB) (Polish Precedent). The third dam
Hunt the Sun (GB) (Rainbow Quest) is a full-sister to the multiple
Group 1-winning pair Raintrap (GB) and Sunshack (GB), while
this is also the family of the G1 Prix Royal-Oak winner Ice Breeze
(GB) (Nayef) and multiple Group 2winner Snow Sky (GB) (Nayef).
Winter Sunrise=s 2-year-old and yearling are full-siblings to
Franconia, with the former a filly named Fine Lace (GB) and the
latter a colt. Click for the Racing Post result.

One of the genuine speedy Dubawis, Lazuli looked entirely at
home over this stiff five as he delivered on his 2-year-old
promise. Successful on his first two starts over six at
Newmarket=s July track in August and at Doncaster the following
month, the bay ran eighth trying this trip in the G3 Cornwallis S.
on the Rowley Mile in October before being gelded over the
winter. Runner-up attempting to give Smokey Bear (Ire) (Kodiac
{GB}) 13 pounds in a six-furlong handicap on Newmarket=s 2000
Guineas card the previous Saturday, he was bounced out by
William Buick to dominate and despite a late drift was always
too strong for his rivals.
AHe ran very well at Newmarket last weekend and he was very
good today, very quick,@ his rider commented. AHe gave me a
good feel and although he does stay six, he is quick enough for
five and you can ride him with that bit more confidence that he
will get home. He obviously has a lot of speed and I thought it
was a decent race. He had a wind op since he disappointed at
the end of last season and obviously it has worked well. He feels
like a proper sprinter and I can only see him improving. I
certainly wouldn=t want to set any limits on how high I think he
can go.@ Cont. p17

Continuing the bright start to the season made by the Haggas
stable, Mubtasimah produced a career-high to open her black-
type account with the promise of more to come. Successful on
three of her first four starts including a novice event over this
trip at York by nine lengths in June, the bay=s form had leveled
off from midsummer and she had signed off with a third in a
mile handicap at Newmarket in October. Always in the firing line
in this race rescheduled from Musselburgh, she was left in the
clear well before the final two furlongs and stayed on strongly to
register a highly respectable time effort.
AShe did well last year, but had a few soundness issues and
she=s matured this year and got over those,@ Maureen Haggas
explained. AShe seems a much happier filly and seven furlongs
with a bit of dig in the ground is her ideal. She travelled really
strong and finished off her race very well. She=s a different filly
this year and everything has settled down. She is big and has
grown into herself and I=m not sure she=s really got the speed for
six. The tempo is really quite different between six and seven.@
Mubtasimah is the second foal and second winner out of the
unraced Midnight Hush (Fr) (Anabaa), who is herself a full-sister
to the G3 Ballyogan S. winner Miss Anabaa (GB). The latter is in

Honor A.P. | Horsephotos IN TDN EUROPE TODAYPEACEFUL TAKES IRISH 1000 GUINEAS Peaceful (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) became her sire’s record-breaking
85th Group 1 winner in the G1 Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas at
The Curragh on Saturday. Click or tap here to go straight to
TDN Europe.
HONOR A.P. CRACKS THE GENETIC CODE
by Chris McGrath
If someone new to our business asked you to pick a single race
in 2015 that might explain the passion that consumes us, you
probably wouldn't pick the processional exhibitions of a first
Triple Crown winner in 37 years. You'd show them the
GI Whitney S.
In a summer when hardly anyone will be able to renew the
Saratoga pilgrimage, you may find the jolt of nostalgia too
poignant to revisit the video yourself. But gosh, that was a
horserace. Liam's Map (Unbridled's Song), flying just that
fraction too close to the sun as he tore clear; and Honor Code
(A.P. Indy), a perfect obverse of the same daring and brilliance,
swooping out of his hiding place somewhere among the forests
and lakes to ambush the leader in the very last gasp. It was as
though Javier Castellano had flung a javelin through some flap of
Mike Smith's silks, billowing in the forward rush, and skewered
him to the winning post. Thwack.
In a just world, they might have shared a dead-heat. But then
this race would also explain to the outsider how our endeavors
are predicated on the simple fact that in order for somebody to
win, everybody else has to lose.
Unless, that is, you happen to be reviewing the race from
Lane's End. Here, it has turned out, everyone could be a winner.

SHE=S A JULIE BACK TO HER BEST IN PHIPPS Dismissed at 14-1 in Saturday=s six-horse GI Ogden Phipps S. at
Belmont, Steve Asmussen trainee She=s a Julie (Elusive Quality)
rediscovered her best form to narrowly defeat favored Point of
Honor (Curlin) and earn a guaranteed spot into the GI Breeders=
Cup Distaff later this season. Ollie=s Candy (Candy Ride {Arg})
had to settle for third after chasing hot splits early. She=s a Julie
took the GI La Troienne S. on the GI Kentucky Oaks undercard
some 13 months ago, but hadn=t returned to the winner=s circle
since then and had last been seen finishing a dull sixth in
Churchill=s May 23 Shawnee S. in her first start of the season.
Ridden for position early by Ricardo Santana, Jr., She=s a Julie
grabbed a rail spot just in front and inside of Ollie=s Candy while
sitting fourth. She moved into a clear third entering the bend
after a :45.98 half mile, and tipped out for running room at the
head of the lane with Point of Honor on her right flank. Cont. p8

Map and third-placed Tonalist (Tapit), who had been detached
early with the winner, were also corralled there the following
spring to launch their second careers together.
"It was an incredible race," recalls Bill Farish of Lane's End.
"Liam's Map deserved to win, he was just half a stride short of
doing so, and Tonalist acquitted himself very well too. It was an
interesting dynamic after the race, put it that way, with the
other owners all being good friends."
All three horses had rooted their racetrack excellence in
aristocratic pedigrees and, while it is still early days, their first
sophomores do seem to be working on a pretty exciting replica
of that Saratoga melodrama.
Once again, it has been Liam's Map who has made the
explosive start. Two Grade I winners among his first juveniles
last year qualified him for a hike in fee to $35,000 from $20,000;
Honor Code, in contrast, lay off the early pace after drawing a
black-type blank and was dropped to $30,000 from $40,000.
But with his sumptuous pedigree, maturing horses round a
second turn were always going to show Honor Code in a better
light. Sure enough, he now has a spectacular flagbearer in Honor
A.P.--whose GI Santa Anita Derby success last Saturday qualifies
him as one of the favorites for a GI Kentucky Derby that should,
on its new date, prove tailormade to his later development.
Those of us who deplore the puerile impatience of the
commercial market today will be delighted for those who kept
the faith with Honor Code--whether at the yearling sales last fall,
or with their mares this spring--
despite his "failure" to produce a
series of 4 1/2-furlong maiden
winners at Keeneland last April.
His flamboyant physique had
been so eerily reproduced in his
first crop that only American
Pharoah had outpunched a
$200,000 median/$220,303
average; yet those indices sank
to $40,000/$75,494 as his
second crop went to market.
True, that kind of slippage is
nearly universal nowadays; and
Honor Code's average was
overtaken, in their intake, only
by Liam's Map himself and the
overnight sensation, Constitution. Nonetheless, it beggars belief
that a stallion of this profile should be condemned, in a single
cycle, to a median worth just 20 percent of his opening score.
The guys at Lane's End have seen it all before, and faith in their
rookies was never shaken by a quiet start. Liam's Map himself,
after all, did not have a winner before Saratoga--but that was
Basin, who promptly won the
GI Hopeful S. on his next start.
And then Wicked Whisper did
much the same, winning on
debut at the Spa before
following up in the GI Frizette S.
Honor Code did not have to seek
far for an example, then, after
likewise waiting until July for the
first of 14 juvenile winners.
"How often does it happen
that you have two Grade I
winners in New York right out of
the first crop?" asked Farish of
Liam's Map. "That was an
amazing start, and yet we kind
of went from a few weeks
before, when it was getting a little concerning, to all of a
sudden, boom, boom, he gets a colt and a filly winning a Grade I
race. Cont. p4

ASo, no, we were never panicking at all with Honor Code. We
had so much confidence in him, and had been so pleased with
what his offspring looked like, and just felt they would come on
as they got older."
In the circumstances, however, the suspension of so much
racing because of the pandemic was an especially tedious
hindrance to a stallion whose stock would just be getting real
traction.
"We said all spring and early summer that this would really
hurt Honor Code," Farish says. "Because we all felt like they'd be
later developing 2-year-olds, early 3-year-olds. Not having racing
during that crucial time, with horses like Honor A.P. and Max
Player unable to run, really prevented him getting off to the kind
of start I think he would have done [otherwise]. So it was just
very gratifying to see how well Honor A.P. ran last weekend."
If the market's absurd impetuosity put Liam's Map in the
greater demand this spring, Farish is confident that Honor
Code's "incredible books in years one, two and three" will
consolidate and sustain the gains he is making now. Certainly it
isn't hard to picture Honor Code elevating his fee far beyond its
current level in years to come. Because here is a living,
breathing exemplar of the basic tenets on which this whole
business achieves its viability.
His elite genes, build and performance should together mean
that Honor Code can only be a wholesome contributor to the
breed. The same was true of his own sire, remember: A.P. Indy
was the most expensive yearling of his crop and went on to
become Horse of the Year. If there's any kind of validity to the
lore agreed by generations of horsemen, then really Honor Code
can't miss as a stallion.

McGrath cont.
There are, of course, extra dimensions specific to Honor A.P.
Apart from anything else, he's out of a Grade I winner and, as a
$850,000 Saratoga yearling for CRK Stable, qualified as the most
expensive member of his sire's first crop. And then there's the
sense of destiny vested in his name, a tribute to a grandsire
whose passing in February, at the venerable age of 31, gave
Honor A.P. an obvious cue to certify the continued vitality of the
A.P. Indy dynasty.
Honor Code himself had been charged with a very similar duty,
as one of 36 named foals in A.P. Indy's final crop. In each case,
moreover, there is a vivid imprint. While Honor Code had an
idiosyncratic brilliance, working his way through the gears from
the rear, in physical terms he appears to have served as a bridge
between his sire and his son.
"Honor A.P. has a lot of Honor Code in him," he says. "And all
three have a similar running style, with that low head carriage.
But this horse [Honor A.P.] also resembles A.P. Indy in the way
he used to look like he wasn't running fast, but was passing
everybody just the same. A.P. Indy had that cadence about his
stride, and this horse does the same thing: just gets that long
stride going. Even though A.P. Indy himself wasn't that big a
horse, he had a very long stride. Honor A.P. also seems to have
A.P. Indy's tactical speed, compared with Honor Code who
would come from farther back in the race."
Of course, Honor Code also introduces a female family no less
illustrious than that of A.P. Indy himself, his dam Serena's Cat
(Storm Cat) having made $1.4 million as a weanling
grand-daughter of Hall of Famer and elite producer Serena's
Song (Rahy).
Quite apart from extending the Bold Ruler sire-line, then,
Honor Code brings together two outstanding achievements, as
an outstanding broodmare sire, of Bold Ruler's greatest son:
both A.P. Indy and Storm Cat, of course, are out of Secretariat
mares. (A.P. Indy's third dam Gay Missile, by the way, was by
Secretariat's half-brother Sir Gaylord, himself a strong distaff
influence, including through his sons.) Certainly anyone who
wouldn't mind keeping a filly should be taking a very good look
at Honor Code.
In his own youth, Honor Code wrapped his genes into such a
traffic-stopping package--this big, glossy animal with a head that
seemed to bear an invisible crown--that William S. Farish of
Lane's End, who had co-bred A.P. Indy, was prompt to work a
deal with Dell Ridge to keep him out of the sales ring and race
him in partnership.
Admittedly, Honor Code's track career was not without its
frustrations. Fast-tracked by Shug McGaughey from a debut
success at Saratoga, he missed by a neck in the GI Champagne S.
and instead settled, at two, for rallying past Cairo Prince
(Pioneerof The Nile) in a crawl for the GII Remsen S. Cont. p6

He then had to sit out the whole Triple Crown trail after
suffering an injury in the spring, but regrouped at four and set
up his epic Whitney display with a scarcely less dramatic swoop
round the single turn of the GI
Met Mile, feeding gratefully on
white-knuckle fractions of 22.42,
44.92 and 1:08.74. (Runner-up
Tonalist, incidentally, anticipated
his own fine effort in the
Whitney: proofs of toughness,
class and versatility in the 2014
Belmont winner to be kept in
mind by breeders, should they
find Honor Code's fee moving
beyond reach.)
Few animals in the breed's
history would have been able to
reel in American Pharoah with
the start Honor Code gave the
GI Breeders' Cup Classic field,
but he did reach the podium and so sealed an Eclipse Award as
champion older male.
George Krikorian's Hollywood Story (Wild Rush) was among
the most distinguished of his first partners, and brings old-school
influences--first three dams by Dynaformer, Never Bend and
Swaps--and hardiness to the Classic credentials of Honor A.P.
She won elite races at two (Hollywood Starlet) and five (Vanity
H.) in a 27-race career for John
Shirreffs, whose skilled hands
duly obtain the additional merit
of familiarity in dealing with
Honor A.P.
Now 19, Hollywood Story's two
most accomplished foals to date
are both by another son of A.P.
Indy in Malibu Moon--GII
Saratoga Special S. runner-up
Hollywood Star, and stakes
winner Miss Hollywood--albeit
her overall record is no more
than middling, given her
opportunities. These included an
early date with A.P. Indy, but the
resulting filly was unraced.
Hollywood Story's stakes-placed dam (whose partners likewise
tended to be very eligible types, following the achievements of
her first foal) had herself produced two duds, more or less, from
assignations with A.P. Indy. Cont. p7

Hollywood Story with John Shirreffs | Horsephotos
McGrath cont.
It is only her grand-dam Huggle Duggle (Never Bend) whose
racing and breeding record feeds at all immediately into
Hollywood Story's distinction: she was a graded stakes winner
on turf for Leslie Combs and dam of a German group
winner/second dam of multiple graded stakes-winner Seattle
Fitz (Arg) (Fitzcarraldo {Arg}).
But the next dam was a half-sister to Kentucky Oaks winner
Silent Beauty, tracing to none other than Myrtlewood. And that
great matriarch also has a foothold in both sides of Honor
Code's own page: Mr. Prospector, sire of his grand-dam Serena's
Tune, famously traces to Myrtlewood; and so does My Charmer,
who gave us A.P. Indy's sire Seattle Slew.
Honor A.P.'s build and running style are clearly oriented to
dirt, but you couldn't rule out his sire producing turf runners.
European investment in the Serena's Song family has produced
some top-class grass runners, and Honor Code's half-brother by
Unbridled's Song is Noble Tune, a Grade II winner on the surface
and also runner-up in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf.
In theory, at least, Honor Code's sparky acceleration--which
was there from the outset, making up 22 lengths in the slop
over seven furlongs on debut--might well have adapted to turf.
True, the physical affinities between Honor A.P., his sire and
grandsire have essentially combined into a low, powerful, raking
stride tailored to dirt. But European breeders could do a lot
worse than give Honor Code a chance to draw out his maternal
line.

"He certainly could," says Farish, asked whether Honor Code
might prove at all versatile that way. "A.P. Indy did get some
[turf runners]. Not too many at the top level, but it's certainly
possible. A few trainers I've talked to have said they have [Honor
Codes] that seem to prefer the turf. But it doesn't seem like the
majority."
Overall the direction of travel seems clear. Honor Code's first
graded stakes winner, Max Player, set the template: he didn't
surface until November, but progressed from his maiden success
just before Christmas to win the GIII Withers S. in style. He is
pointing to the GI Belmont S., so already you couldn't rule out
Honor Code's debut crop taking two of this year's three Classics.
The A.P. Indy legacy was already long secure, both as a sire of
sires and as a broodmare sire. The Lane's End roster itself
reflects that, from Mineshaft (A.P. Indy)--himself now 21, a
reflection of his sire's longevity--to West Coast (Flatter); from Mr
Speaker (Pulpit) to Tonalist. The distaff footprint, moreover, is
now embedded by Catalina Cruiser (Union Rags), whose dam is a
daughter of Mineshaft; while the incoming Game Winner (Candy
Ride {Arg}) is out of an A.P. Indy mare.
But there is no mistaking the extra fulfilment that would be
shared by the whole Lane's End team, should it turn out that the
great patriarch had reserved his most eligible successor until
last.
In the Keeneland catalogue, Honor A.P. had actually been
registered as Hollywood Hero. With his matinee idol looks, it
made ample sense. But the script has since been turned over to
a new studio. CRK Stable aptly anticipated a sentimental
plot-line: the death of the grandsire, the accession of the sire,
the emergence of a new prince.
"Honor A.P. is well named, for sure," Farish says. "Getting such
a top horse out of A.P. Indy's last crop was amazing enough. But
if Honor Code could be a true heir to his legacy, it would be
amazing."

but was clearly leg weary as her lead began to evaporate in the

"Everybody put a lot of effort into this filly,@ Santana said.
ASteve [Asmussen] said he wanted me to go to New York. She's
doing good. I worked her and we were really happy with her.
Steve knows what he's doing and I always listen to him. Today,
she was feeling good. We got a great break. I sat in the spot I

Asmussen=s New York-based assistant Toby Sheets added, "I
had to watch it one more time to be sure [she had won.] It was
very close...I said to Ricardo before the race that there was a lot
of pace in there, and that's how the race unfolded. It was a very
patient ride and the pace up front helped. She ran super."
A romping winner of the GIII Iowa Oaks at three, She=s a Julie
was second--a neck ahead of then still emerging superstar
Midnight Bisou (Midnight Lute)--in the GI Alabama S. that
August at Saratoga. Her other victory from six tries last term
came in the GIII Bayakoa S. in February. Other outings in 2019
included thirds in the GII Fleur de Lis H., GIII Shuvee S. and GI
Personal Ensign. She finished her season off with a speed-and-
fade fourth in the GI Juddmonte Spinster S. in October at
Keeneland.
Pedigree Notes:
Elusive Quality succumbed to old age in 2018, the same year
his final crop of just 20 foals was born, but his influence is far
from over. She=s a Julie is just one of 54 graded scorers for the
son of Gone West, who has 135 black-type winners overall. His
definitive runner will likely always be 2004 champion 3-year-old
Smarty Jones, but the son carrying his name forward in the
breed is Quality Road, who ranks among the most commercial
sires of the current generation as evidenced by Friday=s $1.25-
million OBS Spring session topper (hip 1018). She=s a Julie is 3x4
to Mr. Prospector out of a rarity in the annals of Thoroughbred
racing: a Dubai Millennium (GB) mare. MG1SW Dubai
Millennium sired an abbreviated single crop of just 56 foals
before his tragic early death, resulting in current top European
sire Dubawi (Ire) and the dams of four stakes winners to date.
She=s a Julie has one younger sibling, a full-brother born in 2017
but as yet unnamed. Kydd Gloves is out of MGSW Parade Queen
(A.P. Indy), whose GSW and GISP daughter Untouched Talent
(Storm Cat) produced GISW Bodemeister (Empre Maker) and
brought $5 million at the 2012 Fasig-Tipton November sale.

Admission Office had been knocking on the door at the graded
level for quite some time, and finally broke through Saturday
under the Twin Spires while perhaps benefitting from a tough-
luck trip for favored Arklow. The Amerman homebred won twice
and was second twice in four starts for Chad Brown in 2018
before being transferred to Brian Lynch for his 4-year-old
campaign. He took a Keeneland allowance last April in his first
start for the new barn last April before running Catholic Boy
(More Than Ready) to a half-length in Pimlico=s GII Dixie S. A
close third in the GII Wise Dan S. in June, he was 11th beaten
just over three lengths in the GI Shadwell Turf Mile in October
before two more narrow misses: in the River City H. here in
November and GII Fort Lauderdale S. in December. He was
eighth in the lucrative GI Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational S.
in January, but bounced back to be second to that race=s winner
Zulu Alpha (Street Cry {Ire}) in the 11-furlong GII Mac Diarmida
S. Feb. 29, good for a strong 106 Beyer Speed Figure. He was
most recently a kick-less fourth when closer to the pace than
usual in Gulfstream=s Sunshine Forever S. May 9 over
1 1/16 miles.
Working his way into a mid-pack spot from the far-outside
post, Admission Office was hard held down the backside for the
first lap while sitting outside of Arklow. He appeared a bit more
relaxed first time past the line and back around, and came with
a wide rally into the stretch as Arklow hugged the hedge.
Arklow=s momentum was stymied as he waited for enough
running room inside, and while he eventually got free he
couldn=t quite get to Admission Office.
AHe=s been crying out for some more ground and a lot of his
previous races he just seemed to be in the wrong spot at the
wrong time,@ Lynch said. AHe=s run some big races to get beat
just a head and a neck. Arklow is an outstanding horse and it
was a great battle today. Thankfully we had our head down at
the right time on the wire. He=s a well-accomplished horse and
this will open the door up to more turf marathon races in the
future.@

The Amerman family bred Admission Office and his dam, the
winning Royal Academy mare Miss Chapin, as well as Miss
Chapin=s GISW daughter Coffee Clique (Medaglia d=Oro) and her
two other stakes performers, MGSP Royal Fury (Langfuhr) and
Schoolofhardrocks (Rock Hard Ten). Miss Chapin has a 2-year-
old full-brother to Admission Office named Advanced Placement
and a colt born this year by Oscar Performance. Admission
Office is the newest of seven stakes winners for Point of Entry
and the third graded, following G2 UAE Derby winner Plus Que
Parfait and MGSW/MGISP Analyze It. The Dynaformer stallion, a
five-time Grade I winner whose fourth crop are now juveniles,
stands at Adena Springs near Paris, Kentucky.

MAX PLAYER TUNES UP FOR BELMONT
Last-out GIII Withers S. scorer Max Player (Honor Code)
breezed Saturday morning at Belmont, getting six furlongs in
1:12.25 under work rider Oscar Gomez. It was the sophomore=s
last work before the GI Belmont S., which is scheduled for June
20. Owned by George E. Hall, who won the 2011 Belmont with
Ruler On Ice (Roman Ruler), Max Player is trained by Linda Rice,
who last had a runner in the Belmont in 2003 with Supervisor
(Skip Trial).
"He went the first three-eighths in :36.3 and I instructed Oscar
to ask him to finish a little bit from the sixteenth pole through
the wire," said Rice. "We did the same thing 10 days ago and we
just wanted to let him stretch out a little bit on the main track.
He went :59.3 and out in 1:12.1 for three-quarters. It seems fast,
but the clockers told me the track is very fast today. He went
very well."
Max Player ran twice at Parx last year, debuting with a runner-
up finish in a November maiden special weight before
graduating in December. His 3 1/4-length win in the Feb. 1
Withers was his first and only start this year. The Withers was
contested at nine furlongs, the same distance the Belmont will
be held at this year.
"He hasn't run in five months and I had spaced his works out
every two weeks during the pandemic, having no target in sight
and not knowing what we were pointing towards," said Rice.
"This last month, I've given him three breezes, 10 days apart,
and I was very pleased with his last two works on the main
track."
Max Player has 10 points on the current Kentucky Derby
leader board, good for 32nd on the list. The Belmont offers
qualifying points of 150-60-30-15 to the top four finishers.
PLETCHER PAIR PREP FOR BELMONT Todd Pletcher-trained Quality Road colts Dr Post and
Farmington Road worked in company Saturday over the
Belmont main track as they eye next weekend=s GI Belmont S.
With Oaklawn S. runner-up and GI Arkansas Derby (Nadal
{Blame}=s division) fourth finisher Farmington Road broke off
slightly in front of of his Unbridled S.-winning stablemate, and
the pair finished together while covering four panels in :48.87
(9/37) before galloping out more or less in tandem (XBTV
Video).
"I was very pleased with the work,@ Pletcher said. AI was a little
concerned going in, working the two horses together, but I felt
like that was the best match-up for each horse. They worked in
company together last week at Palm Beach Downs and it
seemed to go well (5f, 1:01.27, 2/3, XBTV Video)...I thought
both horses relaxed nicely in the early part of their work,
finished up strongly and galloped out very, very nice. All in all, it
went well."
Pletcher trained top sire and four-time Grade I winner Quality
Road himself for the late Ned Evans.
AYou can see similarities in both of them to their sire,@ said
Pletcher of his Belmont-bound pair. AI would say that Dr Post
looks more like Quality Road because he's a bit of a bigger
horse, but you can definitely see a similarity in both of them.@

Following a pair of sound defeats earlier in 2020, Newstome
rebounded to a return to the winner=s circle in Saturday=s
Woodstock S. at Woodbine. Victorious in Presque Isle=s Mark
McDermott S. against fellow Pennsylvania breds and the James
F. Lewis III S. at Laurel last fall, he rounded out the 2019 season
with a third in the state-bred Pennsylvania Nursery S. in
December. Off the board in a pair of stakes at Aqueduct and
Turfway in February and March, respectively, he was given a 5-1
chance to make amends here. Content to stalk the early pace in
fourth through opening fractions of :22.30 and :45.14, the grey
eased out four wide to take over leaving the quarter pole and
drew off to score by distance over Untitled.
Subsequent to Newstome, Newstouse produced a filly by

foaled a filly by Hoppertunity. Newstome=s third dam is

in Saturday=s Angels Flight S. at Santa Anita.
Not surprisingly beaten for speed and last after breaking from

PRIMACY (f, 3, Union Rags--Humble, by Valiant Nature) was
beaten 3/4 of a length into second by repeat winner Finding
Fame (Empire Maker) on her Feb. 23 debut over this trip at
Gulfstream before dropping one spot as the favorite when trying
a mile in Hallandale Apr. 12. Slowly into stride from the inside
stall, the 1-5 chalk was patiently handled by Javier Castellano,
angled out sharply into the four path nearing the stretch and
drew clear with authority to graduate by 4 1/4 lengths. First-
time starter Back Channel (Liam=s Map) showed good speed and
outbattled Dare to Try (Daredevil) for second. The winner is a
half-sister to Quindici Man (Came Home), MSW & GISP,
$536,666; and Spurrier (Dixieland Band), MGSP, $406,534. The
last listed produce for her dam, Primacy is a half-sister to the

CONSTITUTIONAL PAL (g, 3, Constitution--Palazzo Babe {SP,
$282,100}, by Rahy) was fifth on debut sprinting on the
Monmouth main track Aug. 24 and filled the same spot in a
restricted maiden going a mile on the turf at Belmont Sept. 18.
Sixth next out over this course and sitance May 2, he was gelded
in the interim and was given an 3-1 chance this time. The bay
saved ground in third back off the pace as the leader zipped
through a :22.31 opening quarter and :46.15 half-mile. Cont. p7

greeness in the final sixteenth. It was a length back to Leading

MAN OF HONOR (c, 3, Curlin--Beyondallboundarys {SW & GSP,
$135,310}, by Saint Liam), from the team that campaigned
GI Preakness S. and GI Belmont S. winner and champion 3-year-
old Colt Risen Star, hit the board in both six-panel starts at two
before returning this season with a fifth in a Fair Grounds sprint
in January. Tiring in his next two while attempting a route of
ground at the New Orleans oval, he most recently finished third
--beaten five lengths--dropping back to a sprint here May 23.
Installed the 9-5 choice to get off the mark here, Man of Honor
settled in a stalking fourth through an opening quarter in :22.22,
swung out to take control heading into the final turn, and fired
all boosters late to win by a widening 5 3/4 lengths over
Brewmeister (Point of Entry). Sir Khan (Bayern) rounded out the
trifecta. Beyondallboundarys, a half sister to GII Matron S.
winner Millionreasonswhy (Grand Slam), is also responsible for a
juvenile filly by Uncle Mo named Beyond Heavenly and a
yearling filly by Violence. The stakes winner was bred back to
Unified this term. Lifetime Record: 7-1-1-2, $43,200. Click for
