MDP MASS ENROLLMENTS

Mass is offered on the first Sunday of each month at Mother of Divine Providence Church for the intentions of our benefactors, including the intentions made through our Mass Enrollment program. Attractive white leatherette folders (including a photograph of our outdoor shrine of Mary, Mother of Divine Providence) are available at the Parish Offices. You may choose one of three enrollment periods (25 years, 50 years or a perpetual remembrance) with a donation of $25, $50, or $100. These Mass Enrollments and Folders are designed to honor the living, or to remember the dead. The proceeds realized from the Enrollment Program benefit our Building Fund.

FROM OUR PASTOR

Dear Friends, Today’s readings serve as a reminder that each and every one of us, whether we are being formed for the first time in the Christian way of life or have been struggling to live this life for years, is called to re-examine our priorities constantly as we journey with faith. The priest sends you forth from this sacred place with the parish’s prayer to support and encourage you to live out the mission given you at this Holy Mass, “Go, announce the Gospel.” This mission is a great gift from Christ, Head of the Church, to the Church as His Body. “Go, announce the Gospel,” not to those who are already living the Gospel, and the Sacramental Life of the Church but to those who have become lost and confused. On average, 25% of the Catholic Community worships God on the Holy Day. This means of course that 75% of the Catholic Community has lost the Way; some perhaps have even given back their faith in order to join other ecclesial communities. It is here that the work of Christ, the Good Shepherd is most vital for union and communion with God. The psalmist reminds us that “the precepts of the Lord give joy to the heart,” and as such we rightly begin with prayer and virtuous living so as to live more fully the sacramental life given to us by Christ in His Church. Jesus teaches us to rejoice whenever and wherever we find goodness, healing, compassion and truth. Rather than judging others, we should examine the quality of our own commitment to the faith that is given us to live, not only in the privacy of our homes, but in the public forum where the ‘announcing’ will present an opportunity for conversion, forgiveness and

communion. Sharing faith and confidence

in God’s Almighty power, Father

Cioppi

PARISH SERVICES

MDP SENIORS AND CARE

MINISTERS TO HAVE A JOINT MEETING

MDP Seniors and Care Ministers are scheduled to meet on Tuesday,

October 2 at 11 A.M. in the Parish Offices. The

Director of Bayada Nurses, Lydia Gemmer will be our speaker about Home Health Care. Please join us for this informative meeting.

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY

Our next meeting is scheduled for Friday, October 5th

at 2 P.M. in the Parish Offices. To Members: Prayer Shawl Ministry members are requested to bring completed 12 x 12 squares. We will be deciding how to join them in order to complete the group shawl. The baby basket is almost complete, but we need a baby cap and a bunting. Our due date is our November meeting for the baby basket. To Parishioners: Should our parishioners have any 12 x 12 crocheted or knitted squares and they don’t know what to do with them, WE DO! Please send them to us and we will knit or crochet them into a prayer shawl. As always, we ask our parishioners that if there is someone they are thinking about and praying for, bring those thoughts and prayers into reality. Give that person a prayer shawl. This shawl will bring your prayers and good wishes to that person! Come by the Parish Offices and take a look in the cedar chest.

MASS WITH THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK Our annual Mass with the Anointing of the Sick is scheduled for Sunday, October 14

th at 2 P.M. in the

Parish Center. If you or someone you know is in need of healing of body, mind or spirit, please join us for this celebration. The Sacrament of the Sick is the source of spiritual strength for those facing surgery or who live with a chronic disease or ailment.

ST. JOHN CASSEROLE PROGRAM Our next scheduled pick up for casseroles is Wednesday, Oct. 10. Please check the Reach Out section of our bulletin for details. As we begin a “new year” so to speak, I would like to publicly thank Julie Falcone for all of her faithful service to this program. She has helped to make it a real success in our

commitment to St. John’s Hospice. Thank you, Julie!

WHAT HAVE YOU SEEN THIS WEEK? If you can bear with me, here is another Alaska story…While we were in Seward, we took a Fijords Wildlife Cruise. The sights were amazing. One I would like to

share with you is seeing the humpback whales. They are huge! Every once in a while, they bring themselves to the surface of the water in a very spectacular way. Their nose comes first and then they breach their body above the water and expel the gases

027 MDP for 093012

7

that they accumulate in their bodies while under water – this shoots out like a big fountain then they dive back into the water. In doing this their fan tail is the last to submerge again and the sight is amazing – amazing is really the only word. I am sure you have seen pictures of this fan tail as the whale goes back under – well, as silly as this sounds, it looks just like the pictures. While we were there a number of whales were around. The captain of the boat turned off the motor so we would not scare them away – it was like a fountain show of beauty. He also put the microphone down into the water and we could hear them communicating to each other – amazing. There it is again. They were probably saying, let’s put on another show for those humans up there. The thing that fascinates me is that no matter whether we were there or not, these humpback whales would be doing the same thing – just being themselves. It is a real lesson to me. They are beautiful even when no one is watching, just acting as God intended them to act. Can we say the same of ourselves??? What have you seen this week?

Each time you purchase a gift card, that retailer issues a rebate. These rebates are tallied twice a year by the Scrip Coordinator. Once in January and once in July rebate checks are sent to your school designating your accumulated scrip credits. The check is then applied to your child/children’s tuition.

When you convert your cash to gift cards you spend less than you get. For instance if you purchase a $100 Acme gift card, you get the $100 gift card PLUS $2.50 as tuition credit. Depending on the retailer you can get up to 10% in tuition credit. Each retailer contributes a different percentage. So before YOU shop, convert your cash to gift cards and MAKE $
