2 types of moorings-1) Wire – Galvanized steel (6/37)2) Rope – Poly Propylene

Specification – 220 to 250 m in length, MBL, diameter, material and construction

Both ends eyes should be there of 1.5-2m. Eyes should be mechanically clamped.Certificate should be present for every wire, ropes. It should be renewed every 5 years but can justify if number of port ops are less.

Wires are tied up with mandal shackle and mooring tale ropes at the end.

Mooring Tale ropes – Length – 11m includes both sides eyes. To be renewed every 18 months.

Mooring log to be maintained by Chief Officer on board. Keeps record of installation, lxbxd, etc.

Nylon rope to have 28% (tbd) more MBL

1 winch has 2 drums. 4 drums in fwd, 4 drums in aft.

3 spring winches athwart ship.

Ropes are stored on the drums with one end secured with the clamping on the drum. One end to be secured with screw.

Tag should be there and following info - Winch no, wire specification, date of installation.

2 wires, 2 mooring tales and 2 mandal shackle to be in Spare.

Mooring Winch –

Is to secure the ship with the birth at a fixed load at BRB (Break Rendering Value)

Operated by hydraulic pressure or steam.

Mooring winches are reversible. This is being controlled by the control lever on the hydraulic winch. There are 2 clutches which are being engaged to operate the drums by the lever.

Mooring winches are having speed of 50m/mins and break holding capacity.

Page 2: Mooring

Drums should of split type to facilitate the storage and take the load and turns should be 3 to 5.

Lever and movement of rope should be opposite.

Save oil tray has plugs. All plugs are secured with the wire to avoid losing the plug and a washer is provided.

Save oil should be free from water.

Control lever has a locking pin and the direction indicating ahead and astern.

Mooring winch are kept on gear, gears are disengaged and safety pins are put inside to avoid accidently disengaging.

Stenciling - Mooring winch No., BHC & BRC,

Rendering – Mooring winch brakes are rendered at a value of 80% of the brake holding capacity.

Direction of rotation – hauling capacity.

BHC windlass – 185 t approx.

There is a red mark fixed on the winches handle to render it and every time after the station to should be tighten to the same value.

All the ropes and wires should share the weight equally.

Should not slacken the rope during cargo ops.

AB/duty officer to check mooring ropes, scupper plugs etc every 2 hours.

Mooring tale eyes are covered with canvas/ tarpelene. All winches and brakes are rendered and tested every year. Cert to be kept on board.

Break test kit

When the applied force, tuning momentum is equal to the rendering value
