Do not waste time bothering whether you “love” your neighbor; act as if you
did. As soon as we do this, we find one of the great secrets. When you
are behaving as if you loved someone, you will presently come to love him.
—C.S. Lewis

St. Mary’s Parish News Scheduling of Events: Please note that all events that are to take place on St. Mary’s grounds must be submitted in writing to the Parish Secretary for approval by the Pastor. Events that have not been given approval do not end up on the Parish Calendar and may cause issues for other events that are already scheduled. This is especially important at St. Mary’s where we have a high volume of weddings with their rehearsals scheduled. It is also good to know who has been using the facilities. Father has found doors unlocked and lights and coffee pots still on. This causes a safety hazard. We want to ensure that there is a safe environment for all our parishioners and that they have priority. In scheduling your events in this way, events are anticipated so we can avoid last minute inconveniences. Thank you!
Music at St. Mary’s: As the Summer progresses, plans are being set in motion for the expansion of the Music Program at St. Mary’s Church, beginning this coming Fall. This past year, we started a Children’s Choir here at St. Mary’s. Due to a very limited rehearsal schedule, the choir, unfortunately, was only able to sing five times during the school year. Starting on Sunday morning, 13 September, we will begin weekly rehearsals for the youth of St. Mary’s from the 2nd grade and up. Rehearsals will be held on Sunday mornings in the 4th grade classroom on the 2nd floor of the Parish Hall Building from 10:45 until 11:15am. This will be at the beginning of the Sunday School period, after which the children will adjourn to their respective Religious School classes. It is the current plan to have the Children’s Choir participate in the 9:30 Masses on the 1st
and 3rd Sundays of each month during the school year. The Children’s Choir will also sing for the Christmas Pageant on Christmas Eve and remain to lead the congregation at the 4:00pm Christmas Eve Mass. On Good Friday, 25 March, at noon, the children will sing at the Live Stations of the Cross Liturgy, led by the children of the Religious School. With the support of all parents of the children of St. Mary’s, as well as the incredible, dedicated teachers of the Religious School, I know we will have an exciting year. The Adult Choir at St. Mary’s is also looking forward to a period of expansion this year. I am asking that all members who may have thought about singing in the choir to consider joining us this year. I would like for the choir to present some special musical programs this year. This would not only be a great opportunity for the congregation, but would serve to welcome members of the whole Charleston Community in order that they might experience the beauty and solemnity that is St. Mary’s. Beginning 9 September, the St. Mary’s Adult Choir will rehearse on Wednesday Evenings from 7:00 to 9:00pm as well as Sunday mornings from 8:30 to 9:10am in the Church choir loft. I whole-heartedly encourage all persons join with what promises to be a fine group of singers this year.
Wednesday Evening Confessions: There will be NO 5:30pm confessions during the Summer months. Confessions on Wednesday evenings will resume in the Fall.
“You must ask God to give you power to fight against the sin of pride which
is your greatest enemy – the root of all that is evil, and the failure of all that
is good. For God resists the proud.” -St. Vincent de Paul
