You’re invited to Summer Festival
Dear Livingston County Community Members,
On July 8 and 9 the Geneseo Rotary Club will sponsor the 34th Annual Geneseo Summer Festival.
This year, the Geneseo Merchants Association and the Geneseo Welcome Center have been active partners in planning fun and family-friendly activities for our Festival. We thank them for their positive collaboration in this wonderful event.
We want to invite all Livingston County residents to attend this great family event and encourage everyone to support the merchants, food vendors and downtown businesses throughout the two days of the Festival and be-yond.
“Rotary Serving Humanity” is the theme for Rotary International this year. In the Village of Geneseo, the ideals of this theme are lived out every day through Teresa House.
Teresa House offers a comfort care ministry to residents who are nearing the end of a terminal illness, and to their families, by providing a home environment of love, dignity and support. For this reason, Teresa House is the beneficiary of the 50/50 raffle that will be held during the Skycoasters concert on Saturday evening.
The Geneseo Rotary Club is proud to sponsor the Summer Festival.
Festival Weekend is loaded with outstanding activities and entertainment for the entire family.
Come out and join the fun!
Sincerely,
Tim Hayes
Geneseo Rotary Club President for 2016-17

Maybe you know some business associates or
family members who would make great Rotarians,
but you never considered them for club member-
ship because they don’t live near you. Take the
time this month to call them, tell them why you
think they would make great Rotarians…

Rotary Club Banners
One of the colorful traditions of many Ro-
tary clubs is the exchange of small banners,
flags or pennants. Rotarians traveling to dis-
tant locations often take banners to exchange
at “make-up” meetings as a token of friend-
ship. Many clubs use the decorative banners
they have received for attractive displays at
club meetings and events. (Source: ABC’s

Elizabeth Vander Wal, daughter of
PP Dennis Dawson and Ann
Dawson, has recently received an
award for distinguished service to the
Attorneys for Children Program. It was
given by the Appellate Division of the
Fourth Department of the NYS
Supreme Court.
According to an article posted by
Conrad Baker in the GENESEE
SUN…..“not every Attorney for Chil-
dren is even eligible to win this award.
Judges nominate about 800 attorneys
per year, and then a panel of legal professionals selects a handful of winners. This year, the Fourth
Department awarded six attorneys, including Vander Wal. Livingston County Judge Robert
Wiggins and Wyoming County Judge Michael Griffith nominated Vander Wal. She primarily
practices in these two counties and is on the panel in Monroe County.
“I was surprised to hear it, it’s a great honor,” said Vander Wal. “They pick attorneys who are able
to and want to go above and beyond in building rapport and advocating for young clients.”
“If the client is an infant, they don’t have a position or can’t articulate it, and Attorneys for
Children have to advocate for what they believe is in the child’s best interests,” said Vander Wal.
“In tough cases, we have to argue against DSS.”

Meet Rachel Lintz, SUNY Geneseo Rotaract Club President 2016-17
I am a childhood and special education major and have
been teaching since I was in seventh grade (for six years).
At a very young age, I realized that I had a passion for
helping others; my peers, elders, and community
members. I was able to achieve this as a girl scout, as well
as, being actively involved in Leo Club (a community
service club at my high school).
Some service projects that I have been a part of in the past year include but are
not limited to: Rehab a House into a Home, Free Rice Friday, Organize Good-
will, Admitted Student Lunch-In and Card Making for Fair Trade Farmers.
I am a brother of Alpha Phi Omega, which is a national co-ed service organi-
zation founded on the principles of Leadership, Friendship, and Service.
I just recently turned 19 and I will be a Sophomore this upcoming year.
I am from Churchville, New York which is about 30 minutes away from
campus.
