The July issue has become a favorite for featuring our pets. Enjoy reading about some

of our furry family members!

Maya’s cat, Bug loves to curl

up on a pillow and watch TV

with her and her sister.

This is Buddy, Samuel’s best

friend. They enjoy watching

TV and snacking together.

Evie doesn’t have a pet at

home, but she loves when

Pop and Gigi (my dad and

stepmom) come to visit with

their dog, Quincy.

Nathan’s kitty, Lancelot is like a rag

doll and squeezes himself into any

basket possible.

This is Luna Pink Girl, a

puppy from a beautiful

litter of puppies that

Nathan and Samuel’s dog,

Nellie had recently.

Nathan & Samuel’s

older brothers brought

There are several to choose from both for iOS

and Android devices. Conduct your own search,

check out the reviews and download one that

suits you.

Next time you need to set a steady rhythm to

play along with, try out a fun drumming app and

just maybe it will make keeping the tempo easier

and lots more fun!

When a Metronome is Boring

Let’s face it — practicing with a metronome is

boring and sometimes even nerve–wracking.

How would you like a FUN, inspiring way to

keep the beat?

Why not download a fun drum app? I found

one for my Android phone called Metro

Drummer. Choose a style (rock, jazz, dance,

etc.), set the tempo and start playing along

with a virtual drummer instead of the tick-tock

of a boring metronome.

2. Try as many flavors as you can. We

challenge you to try at least 10, but you

can set your own goal and see how

well you do. We know we'll be aiming

for the moon—try and keep up!

3. Invent your own flavor. Find a recipe

you can use as a starting point to

invent your own ice cream flavor. You

can use a vanilla ice cream recipe and

add your favorite toppings, or just pour

ingredients into a pan and wing it. If

you have an ice cream maker, this is

your time to shine. If you don't, there

are plenty of recipes that you can make

without any equipment!

July is National Ice Cream Month, and

you have Kentucky to thank! In 1984,

Senator Walter Dee Huddleston of

Kentucky introduced a resolution to

proclaim the month of July 1984 National

Ice Cream Month and the 15th of that

month National Ice Cream Day. Ronald

Reagan signed the bill into law the same

year, and the rest is history! Even though

the bill only specified that July 1984 was

National Ice Cream Month, the tradition

carries on—much to our pleasure.

Celebrate with us this July!

How to Celebrate Ice Cream Month:

1. Host an ice cream party. Supply

several different flavors of ice cream

and ask your friends to bring their

favorite toppings.

Work Less to Get More Done

Working too much kills productivity and often leads

to less getting done! Instead of trying too hard to

reach your goals and achieve success, take a more

balanced and smarter approach.

Here are two things you can adopt immediately to

begin moving to the “work less get more done”

model:

Set time limits on your tasks. Have you heard of

Parkinson’s Law? You may not recognize the name,

but I’m sure you’ll recognize its description: “Work

expands so as to fill the time available for its

completion.”

Strangely enough, most people have heard about

this, but seldom act upon the information!

Trust me, if you want to get work done quicker —

make sure you always set deadlines for your tasks.

Without deadlines, it’s just too easy to lose your

focus and drift into procrastination.

Without a deadline, you immediately file the work

away as non-urgent. But worse than that — you

actually forget about doing it! When you set a

deadline, you find the necessary time and effort to

get the work done.

Prioritize tasks in order of importance . Adopting

this method will see your productivity levels

skyrocket! Super-efficient workers have learned a

little-known fact, namely, it pays to work on essential

tasks first.

For example, take 10 minutes or so in the morning

to look at the tasks you need to complete. By just

spending a few minutes in this way, you’ll be able to

quickly sort the tasks into essential and non-

essential categories.

Finally, begin to work through the tasks, starting

with the high-priority items first. By doing this, you’ll

have direction and focus, and will be able to

complete the essential tasks on (or ahead of) time.

Try this technique, and I guarantee that you’ll get

more done. Colleagues will wonder how you are

achieving so much — and in so little time!

As we’re winding up this music year, I’m

amazed at all that we’ve done in the past

year at Dana Martin Studio. Please take a

minute and read about all that we’ve

accomplished in the last year and even a

few things you might see in the year

ahead.

If you see anything in the following list

(or if there’s something else) that you’d

like to set as a personal goal for yourself,

please be sure to let me know so we can

start preparing to reach it!

I’m looking forward to another great year

of music learning and music making! I have

lots of fun ideas to implement in the coming

months that I’m sure the students will love!

Matthew likes it when

Hilton climbs into his lap.

Julia and our puppy

Vivi, the Aussiedoodle.

Sophie loves to

have conver-

sations and

snuggle with

her dog, Tippy.

Lexi’s 8-year-old

cat, Lucy loves to

climb trees then

take long naps on

our couch.

Lexi’s 8-year-old dog,

Murray loves to play

fetch with his tennis

balls and do tricks for

treats.
