    Dear Friends,

    We are still living in the40 days of the Easterseasonstill reveling, too,in the joy of last monthsinaugural weekend andformal dedication of thenew Academic Center andTheological Library at the Dominican Houseof Studies (DHS) in Washington, D.C.I am happy, therefore, to use this occasion of

    writing you once again to gratefully andprayerfully pay tribute to you, our friendsand donors, for making this unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience of Easter joy a reality.

    Your gifts and prayers made it happenthanks be to God!The new DHS will be a beacon of intellectualand spiritual formation for generations tocome. Indeed, the ceremonies and liturgieslast month marked the beginning of theDHSs second century of service to theProvince as well as to the US Church at largeand even beyond. Things rarely get much

    bigger than this.

    Be sure to visit our website,www.op-stjoseph.org, for extensive coverage of theinaugural weekend. Browse our pages forphotographs, videos, interviews, and thetexts of some of the weekends talks andhomilies. We urge all of youespecially those

    A little later this month, we will also beputting in the mail a special, extra-large

    commemorative edition ofThe Trumpet,which will be entirely dev oted to theinaugural weekend. Many of you havealready signed up to receive The Trumpetregularly, but those of you who have not yetdone so, do let us know if you would like toreceive this special edition. It is an issue youdont want to miss. Just send your name andaddress to [email protected].

    As to a little business, the annual Boardmeeting of the Dominican Foundationofficially kicked off our special weekend onFriday, April 17th. With this incrediblemilestone now reached, the Board is activelylooking ahead to the Provinces needs of this

    year and beyond, and planning accordingly.As many of you know, the four key areas thatrely on donors continued contributions areformation and educationto find ways tohouse and educate our growing number of

    be to raise money insupport of the Province.This will only happen with astrengthened anddeveloped Board, one thatis purposeful andcommitted to beinginvolved in identifying,soliciting and followingthrough on philanthropicgift prospects. One key goalto achieving this, whichFather Farren highlighted,

    is the recruitment of newBoard members, who willbring new vitality, skills andresources to our work. If

    you could suggest apotential Board member,

    we would welcome yourinput. Austin Ruse, theBoard Affairs CommitteeChair, has made significantprogress in this area, inconjunction with theExecutive Committee.Thank you for yourcontinued efforts on behalf

    vocations; preaching; foreign missionsourhouses in eastern Africa, in particular; andhealthcare, specifically the support of elderlyFriars.Our goals include: making the Foundationfully self-sufficient in that its operations nolonger require the Provinces financial

    backing; opening new channels ofcommunication and strengthening the bondsof friendship between the Province and its

    supporters; recruiting new donors and boardmembers; and raising $5M in fiscal 2009, justas we did last y ear. Those of you looking formore details about Foundation plans, please

    As you can see, we are ambitious. That is thecase because we are confident in relying onGods help and His continued blessing andinspiration of you, our beloved friends andsupporters.
