Dear Friends,It is my privilege to bring

you glad tidings! On May29, the Province of St.Joseph celebrated theOrdination of five newFriars, a joyful occasionthat is testimony to yourcommitment, generosity and prayers. This is

why all of us do what we do and this is whatwe pray forto ensure the formation of holymen to serve the people of God.In an honor to the province, the new men

were ordained by Archbishop CelestinoMigliore, Apostolic Nuncio and PermanentObserver of the Holy See to the UnitedNations in St. Dominics Church in

Washington, D.C. Please keep these men inyour prayers: John Gregory Schnakenberg,O.P., Vinod Bruno Mary Shah, O.P., Joseph

Anthony Giambrone, O.P., Jacob ThomasPetri, O.P., and Jonah Pollock.

In this same connection, we are very happyto announce the forthcoming consecration as

Archbishop of our Fr. Joseph AugustineDiNoia, O.P.. His appointment by PopeBenedict XVI is as Secretary of the

Congregation for Divine Worship andDiscipline of the Sacraments at the Vatican.

After teaching for 20 y ears at the DominicanHouse of Studies, he was namedUndersecretary of the Vaticans Congregationfor the Doctrine of the Faith. We will havemore news on this wonderful appointmentlater.

And there is more good news still. A y oungdonor blessed us with a gift of $80,000. Wemarvel at your continued generosity, especially today, in the midst of this economicrecession, and send you our heartfelt prayersin return, along with a pledge from all the

Friars to work still harder to be evermorefaithful to their calling.

In this vein, last week about 150 Friars, members of the Province who could be freefor the five days, had the opportunity to prayand reflect on the life and mission of theProvince of St. Joseph, when we gathered atProvidence College for a meeting of assembly. Please clickhere for a photo journal of theseextraordinary days of fellowship andcommunal prayer.

The Giving USA Foundations Annual Surveyof charitable giving found overall giving tocauses down only a few percentage points in2008. What testimony to Americansgenerosity, even when things are so muchtougher! But even more amazing was thefinding that giving to congregations and otherreligious institutions actually saw an uptick of

    . ercent.

Dear Colleagues:Most of us on theFoundation are focused onthe young friars who are information and the

wonderful growth of theOrder.Equally wonderful is that aman of Fr. DiNoias soundintellect has been asked bythe Holy Father to fulfill a

very crucial role at theVatican. We take as muchpride in this as we do in

helping the Order to grow. With joy and gratitude forthis blessing for the Friars, and for the Church, let us

join them in prayer for theirbrother as he prepares tobe ordained an archbishopand assume this importantrole.

    Sincerely in Christ,

    Ray ClarkPresidentDominican Foundation

Commentators made the point that peopleare very attached to the people and placesthat nourish their faith. They are generous intheir support because they are aware thatreligious entities are not eligible forgovernment aid and that, for the most part, they cannot turn to foundations either. Thefaithful are their lifeblood. You, our dearfriends and supporters, are exemplary of thisspirit.

I hope you are regularly visiting theProvincesWeb site to keep up with all thenews and developments, including specialliturgies, talks, Friars media outreach, andmuch more. This month, I call your special attention to aforthcoming new book by Father ThomasJoseph White, O.P., a theology professor atthe Dominican House of Studies. Wisdom in

the Face of ModernityA Study in ModernThomistic Natural Theology(SapientiaPress) goes to the heart of our mission: totestify to the conviction, as laid out by St.Thomas Aquinas, that reason candemonstrate that there is a God. This visionindeed flies in the face of modernity and itsdeep doubts about the meaning of humanexistence. Be sure to read the books prefaceposted online.

As always, be assured of my prayers andgratitude.

With prayerful good wishes, I am
