Many of us are already on leave from our min istries and jobs or are prepar ing to go on vacation with friends and fami ly. I t is a  blessed time of spiritual and physical refreshment. For the Friars of the Province of St. Joseph, this is also time to loo k back at t he acco mpli shments of the past y ear and to get ready for the challenges of the next season.  As y ou know, l ast A pril saw the formal dedicatio n of the new Academic Center and Theological Library at the Dominican House of Studies (DHS) in Washington, D.C. Undo ubtedly, that was the highl ight of the  year. And I cannot stress enough the vital role you, our dear dono rs and supporter s, have play ed in making thi s momentous event a reality with your generous gifts and pray ers. We call on you again, in gratitude, to support us in the y ear ahead, as we foc us on the completion of the renovation of the Priory at t he DH S and a host of other ini tiatives. But I want to take full advantage of this pause in our busy lives and express gratitude. God’s blessings continue to be so abundant that words fall short. This month, 11 new candidates began their three-week postulan cy at Providence Coll ege in Providence, RI. On Aug. 8, they will formally  begin their novitiate year at St. Gertrude’s Priory outside Cincinnati. Thanks t o you, we are able to welcome these wonderful young men, house t hem, feed them and be gin their formation toward becoming a new generation of Friars to serv e the peopl e of God. This month, too, has brought tremendous joy and blessing with theepiscopal ordination of Fr. Augustine DiNoia, O.P.. Pope Benedict XVI has named him Secretary of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments. This is an enormo us hono r for t he Province of the St . Joseph and, agai n, a tribute to y our commitment. For Fr. Di Noia’s comments at the Ordination an d to v iew and relive the eve nt, please click here.  Also recently posted on the site is the audio  version of a magnificent lecture Fr. Romanus Cessario, O.P., speaking at a re cent v ocatio n  weekend, gave on Dominican spirituality. He speaks of it as a grace freely bestowed by God, in co ntrast to contempo rary formul as of spirituality that substitute “mental creations for true Christian devotion.” Dear Colleagues:  July is a wonderful month to spend time with our families, enjoying our precio us time t ogether.  While engaging in this activity, please keep our Friars in mind; they need ou r pray ers, encouragement and financial support. Dear Friends,

 blessed time of spiritual and physicalrefreshment. For the Friars of the Province of St. Joseph, this is also time to look back at theaccomplishments of the past y ear and to getready for the challenges of the next season.

 All good things come from the Lord. It is ourtask to be open to His gifts and collaborate

 with Him to the best of our abilities. You, ourdear friends, are answering that call monthafter month, year after year.

My friend, Catholics throughout our provinceare longing for solid preaching, instructionand pastoral care.

I truly believe that the Province of St.Joseph through the grace of God, can help

 bring about a renewal in Catholic preaching,teaching, and parish life. But we need yourhelp.

Please, pray for our Friars and co-workers.This is by far the most important thing youcan do for us. We are deeply grateful for the

 blessings we receive from our friends’ daily prayers and spiritual offerings.
