    Dear Friends,

The dog days of summerare upon us. Many of youare finding your way to

beaches and resorts, evenforeign destinations. But Iam hopeful that thiselectronic means ofcommunication still findsits way to you. On behalfof all the Friars of the Province of St. Joseph,I send you and your loved ones prayers andgratitude for your unfailing support. Whilethe pace of sustained economic recovery ofthe nationand the worldremainsuncertainyour continued generosity standsas a beacon of hope. In our pray ers, weremember also all the Americans, and peopleeverywhere, as they cope with joblessness, anxiety and outright poverty.

Next Saturday August 15, the Feast of theAssumption, marks the Provinces highlightof the summer. That day, at a ceremony atSt. Gertrudes Church and Priory inCincinnati, OH, Fr. Brian Mulcahy, O.P., VicarProvincial for Personnel will receive the

Simple Profession ofVows of nine Friars. What joy to see these men take a huge steptoward becoming Dominicans! How the Lordcontinues to bless us with plentiful vocations!

Significantly, this week the Center for AppliedResearch in the Apostolate at Georgetownpublished a new study confirming a trendpowerfully exemplified by our Province: themajority of young people entering orconsidering religious life choose Orders thathave remained true to their foundingprinciples and practicesOrders, like theDominicans, that feature community life andclassic forms of liturgy and prayer, whose

members wear traditional habitsunabashedly, and that exemplify a firmcommitment to Church teaching.

We urge those of you who can to stay in touchby continuing to v isit ourWeb site, to refreshand nourish yourself with our Friars spiritualreflections and highlights from the life of theProvince which, also in the quiet summermonths, continues to witness to Gods love forHis people. A newly designed section featuresa line-up of Friar blogs, featuring first-rate

writing and thinking on a full range of themesand topics: Liturgy & Saints; Scripture &

Tradition; State & Society; Culture & Media;and Province & Vocations.

Right now, one of the main features on thesite is a meditation on the life of St. Dominic
