1. Volcano erupts in the Indonesian island of Bali
A volcano on the Indonesian island of Bali, Mount
Agung erupted.
• Mount Agung spewed a plume of ash and
smoke more than 2,000 metres into the sky.
• The volcano is located about 70 kilometres
from the tourist hub of Kuta. It has been
erupting periodically since it came back to
life in 2017
• Indonesia is situated on the Pacific "Ring of
Fire", where the collision of tectonic plates
causes frequent quakes and major volcanic
activity.
1. World Bicycle Day: 3 June
In April 2018, the United Nations General Assembly
declared 3 June as International World Bicycle Day.
• The day will be observed by all the bicycle
enthusiasts across the globe with great
excitement and fun.
• The aim of the event will mainly focus on
devoting particular attention to the bicycle in
the current era of automobiles.
1. ICA issues first UAE Permanent Residency
'Golden Card' in Abu Dhabi
UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity and
Citizenship (ICA) has issued the first Golden
Residence Permit in Abu Dhabi.
• It has been provided as a part of the Investors
Permanent Residence System aimed to attract
investors, entrepreneurs and qualified
individuals who meet its criteria.
• The first permit to the investor was awarded
to Yousuf Ali, Board Member of the Abu
Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry,
ADCCI, and Chairman of the Lulu
International Group.
• The Abu Dhabi-based Keralite tycoon is
worth 4.7 billion dollars and has been ranked
the richest expat in UAE according to Forbes
magazine's 2019 list of billionaires.

World Environment Day is observed every year on
the 5th of June.
• The day is celebrated every year to raise
global awareness to take positive
environmental action to protect nature and
the planet Earth.
• This year the theme of Environment Day is
‘Air Pollution’.
• Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar on
the eve of world environment day launched a
people’s campaign #SelfiewithSapling
urging all to join and plant a sapling and post
the selfie with the sapling on social media.
1. Russia launches the first Arctic train service
In Russia, the first tourist train travelling through
Russia's Arctic region and on to Norway set off from
St. Petersburg station with 91 passengers aboard for
the inaugural trial journey.
• The train, named, Zarengold, complete with
two restaurant cars will travel from Saint
Petersburg through according to the
organisers.
• The whole trip will take 11 days and allow
passengers to discover areas difficult to
access by other means.
2. Dzükou Valley, Nagaland becomes Plastic Free
Zone on World Environment Day
In Nagaland, the scenic Dzükou Valley has become
Plastic Free Zone on the occasion of World
Environment Day.
• The much-appreciated initiative on declaring
this scenic valley as a ‘plastic-free zone’ was
taken by Southern Angami Youth
Organisation (SAYO).
• SAYO had started the task of cleaning the
valley since last month, where local
volunteers had worked tirelessly to clear the
plastic debris from all the areas of the iconic
valley.
1. India, France to hold mega air exercise ‘Varun’
in July
The Indian and French air forces will carry out a two-
week-long mega air exercise beginning July 1 in
France.
• A fleet of Sukhoi 30 fighter jets of the Indian
Air Force will engage in dogfights with
France's Rafale multirole aircraft in
simulated scenarios as part of the 'Garuda'
exercise.
• The exercise will also provide an opportunity
to a sizeable number of IAF pilots to have a
close look at the Rafale jets being operated by
the French Air Force.

Conservative Party
British Prime Minister Theresa has officially stepped
down as the leader of the Conservative Party but will
remain as Prime Minister until her successor is
chosen.
• She had announced to resign on 24th of last
month.
• May has stepped down amid mounting
pressure over her repeatedly defeated Brexit
deal.
• May has been Prime Minister for nearly three
years since she took over from David
Cameron in the wake of the June 2016 Brexit
referendum.
2. 'Gandhi Cycle Rally for Peace' organised in
Saudi Arabia
To mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma
Gandhi, Indian Embassy in Saudi organized ‘Gandhi
Cycle Rally for Peace’ in association with the
Diplomatic Quarter Authority and Saudi Cycling
Federation.
• The rally was flagged off by Dr Ausaf
Sayeed, Ambassador of India to the Kingdom
of Saudi Arabia.
• The Saudi dignitaries, diplomats, members of
Indian diaspora and Saudi nationals attended
the rally.
• Seven teams were deployed along the 6 km
long route to assist the participants.
• The Cycle Rally was part of the series of
events organized globally by the Government
of India to commemorate the 150th Birth
Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
1. African bloc suspends Sudan, demanding an
end to military rule
The African Union (AU) suspended Sudan until the
establishment of civilian rule, intensifying global
pressure on its new military leaders to stand down
after the worst violence since Omar al-Bashir's fall in
April.
• Meeting in Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa,
the AU's peace and security council invoked
its response to interruptions of constitutional
rule by suspending Sudan.

2. SriLankan Airlines named world's most
punctual
SriLankan Airlines, the flag carrier of the island
nation, has been named the 'World's Most Punctual
Airline'.
It has been named for the second consecutive time
with over 90 per cent of its flights in May being "on
time".
• In May, it achieved a punctuality rating of
90.75 per cent.
• Global flight tracker, Flightstats analysed
data of 41 carriers from Europe, North
America, Asia, the Middle East, and South
America, including most of the world's
largest and most prestigious airlines before
drawing its conclusions.
1. UAE Cabinet adopts "National Strategy for
Wellbeing 2031"
The UAE Cabinet adopted the ‘National Strategy for
Wellbeing 2031’ during its meeting at the
Presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi.
• One of the most important initiatives is the
development of the first 'National Wellbeing
Observatory' to support the policymaking
process.
• The strategy is based on a national
framework of three main levels - individuals,
society and the country.
• It includes 14 components and nine strategic
objectives, which include enhancing people's
wellbeing by promoting healthy and active
lifestyles, promoting good mental health and
adopting positive thinking.
2. Pakistan's economic growth expected to hit 3.3
%
Pakistan's economic growth in the financial year
ending in June is expected to hit 3.3 per cent, well
below the target of 6.3 per cent.
• According to the Economic Survey, the dip in
economic growth is expected as the
government failed to meet targets in nearly
all sectors.
• The manufacturing sector slid by 0.3 per cent
and the large scale manufacturing showed a
negative growth of 2 per cent against the
target 8.1 per cent.
3. Imports from Pakistan to India declined by
92% in March
Imports from Pakistan to India has declined by 92 per
cent to 2.84 million US dollars in March this year.
• The reason behind this decline is the
imposition of 200 per cent customs duties on
all products following Pulwama terror attack.
• During the January-March period of 2018-19
fiscal, the imports from Pakistan declined by
47 per cent to 53.65 million dollars.
• India's exports to Pakistan to have dipped by
about 32 per cent to over 171. million dollars
in March.
• India had revoked the MFN (Most Favoured
Nation) status to Pakistan in the aftermath of
the terror attack.
• It had granted the MFN status to Pakistan in
1996.
4. Forex reserves increase by 1.8 billion to 421.8
billion
The country's foreign exchange reserves increased by
USD 1.875 billion to USD 421.867 billion in the
week ending May 31.
• Reserve Bank weekly data released showed
that foreign currency assets, which is a major
component of the overall reserves, rose by
USD 1.946 billion to USD 394.134 billion.
• According to the RBI data, after remaining
stable for the past few weeks, gold reserves
declined by USD 62.9 million to USD 22.958
billion.
1. Canada to ban single-use plastics from 2021
Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced
that single-use plastics will be banned in the country
from 2021.
• He declared it a global challenge to phase out
the plastic bags, straws and cutlery clogging
the world's oceans.
• Each year a million birds and more than
100,000 marine mammals worldwide suffer
injury or death by becoming entangled in
plastic or ingesting it through the food chain.
• Single-use items represent some 70 per cent
of the plastic waste littering the marine
environment.

The 16th Asia media summit kicked-off in
Cambodia.
• The conference is deliberating on many
issues pertaining to the media and
broadcasting industry.
• The Ministers from different countries
presented the digital trends in the
broadcasting sector in their respective
countries.
• Envisioning the media in the 4th Industrial
revolution, Darren ong, an industry expert
said that placing consumer interests at the
centre of decision making is crucial to the
online environment.
3. Japan to invest Rs 13,000 cr in the northeast in
infrastructure projects
Japan will invest Rs 13,000 crore in several ongoing
as well as new infrastructure projects in the northeast
region.
• Some of the important projects in which
Japan will collaborate include the Guwahati
water supply project, Guwahati sewage
project, the northeast road network
connectivity improvement project spread
over Assam and Meghalaya and northeast
network connectivity improvement project in
Meghalaya.
• The government of Japan has decided to
invest an amount of 205.784 billion yen,
equivalent to approximately Rs 13,000 crore,
in several ongoing as well as new projects in
different states of the northeastern region.

• The UN aims to raise awareness of elder
abuse and prevent it, and on this day.

1. Netanyahu renames Golan heights after Trump
Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu officially
renamed a settlement in Golan height after United
States President Donald Trump.
• Notably, the community is now just an
isolated outpost of 10 resident.
• In April, Netanyahu had said he would name
a new community in the Golan Heights after
the US President to thank him for recognising
Israel's sovereignty over the area, which
Israel captured from Syria during the Six-Day
War in 1967 and annexed in 1981.
• The United States became the first country to
recognise the Golan Heights as part of Israel
on March 25.

Autistic Pride Day is observed every year on 18 June.
• Autistic pride recognises the importance of
pride for autistics and understands it not as a
disease but as a difference.
• Autism or Autism Spectrum Disability is a
range of complex neurodevelopment
disorders characterized by social
impairments, communication difficulties,
restrictive and repetitive pattern of behaviour.
• It is a lifelong condition which usually occurs
in the first three years of life.
• The exact cause of autism is not known but it
is known to be associated with genetic and
environmental factors.
2. India will overtake China as the world's most
populous country in just 8 years
India projected to surpass China as the world's most
populous country around 2027, according to a UN
report.
• India is expected to add nearly 273 million
people between now and 2050 and will
remain the most populated country through
the end of the current century.
• The report titled 'The World Population
Prospects 2019: Highlights' estimated that the
world's population is expected to increase by
two million by 2050, from 7.7 billion today
to 9.7 billion.
• Moreover, Indian along with eight other
countries will constitute half of the
population.

World Refugee Day is observed on the 20th of June
every year.
• The day celebrates the stories and
contributions of refugees.

• According to the latest UN study, 70.8
million children women and men were
forcibly displaced at the end of last year.
• This is the highest number in the
organization’s almost 70-year history.
2. Thousands protest against the Guthi Bill in
Kathmandu
In Nepal, thousands of people came onto roads in
capital Kathmandu against controversial “Guthi
Bill”.
• The protesters are demanding the
government to scrap the controversial bill.
• Guthis are socio-economic institutions/trusts,
both public and private, that fund their
obligations from incomes from cultivated or
leased land assets.
• Depending on their obligations, Guthis fulfil
religious, public service or social roles and
could either involve members from a
common lineage, or several.
• The Government of Nepal had tabled the
Guthi Bill to amend Guthi Act and
nationalise both public and private Guthis or
trusts and regulate all religious sites under a
powerful commission.
3. Bangladesh has emerged as the fastest growing
economy among 45 countries of the Asia-Pacific
region: ADB
Bangladesh has emerged as the fastest growing
economy among the 45 countries of the Asia-Pacific
region according to the Asian Development Bank
(ADB).
• In the financial year, 2018-19 Bangladesh
attained a growth rate of 7.9 % which is its
fastest rate since 1974.
• The bank predicted that the growth will be
8% in the next financial year.
• The bank said that higher public sector
investment, stronger consumption demand,
revival in exports, improved power supply
and higher growth in private sector credit
were the key factors of the high growth
performance of Bangladesh.

Jack Lang and composer Maurice Fleuret to
talk about the importance of music.
1. UAE airlines reroute flights over Strait of
Hormuz, Gulf of Oman
The Emirates Airline has taken precautionary
measures including rerouting all flights away from
areas of possible conflict in the Gulf region.
• The announcement came a day after an
unmanned US drone was reportedly shot
down by Iran in the region.
• The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration,
FAA, had issued an emergency order on
prohibiting U.S. air carriers from flying in
Iran-controlled airspace over the Strait of
Hormuz and Gulf of Oman due to heightened
tensions.
2. Saudi Arabia becomes the first Arab country to
be granted full membership of FATF
Saudi Arabia has become the first Arab country to be
granted full membership of the Financial Action
Task Force (FATF).
• It has gained this status following the group’s
Annual General Meeting in Orlando, Florida.
• The Kingdom had obtained observer status in
the Group in June 2015 and completed the
mutual evaluation process in June 2018.
• The FATF now has 39 full members,
including the permanent members of the UN
Security Council and most countries of the G-
20.
• The group is responsible for issuing
international standards, policies and best
practices to combat money laundering,
terrorist financing and proliferation.
3. First Bangladesh International Theatre
Festival being held in Dhaka
The first international theatre festival of Bangladesh
is being held at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in
Dhaka.
• The week-long festival will feature theatre
and puppet shows by eight troupes from
seven countries.
• Rabindranath Tagore’s dance-drama ‘Mayar
Khela’ was performed as the inaugural
presentation of the festival.
• Theatre troupes from India, Bangladesh,
Russia, China, France, Vietnam and Nepal
are participating in the festival.

2. International Olympic Committee opens new
headquarters in Switzerland
The International Olympic Committee (IOC)
formally opened its new headquarters in Lausanne,
Switzerland.
• It has been opened exactly 125 years after the
Olympic Games were revived.
• The Olympic House has been built on the site
of the former headquarters, and 95 per cent of
the old materials were reused and recycled.
• Designed by architecture firm 3XN of
Denmark, the energy-efficient building has
won international awards for sustainability.

70th foundation
The ruling Awami League of Bangladesh celebrated
its 70th founding day on 23rd June 2019.
• Prime Minister and President of the Awami
League of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina has
greeted the countrymen on this occasion.
• Awami League was founded on June 23,
1949, in Dhaka of the then East Pakistan.
• It led a number of major movements such as
the Language Movement in 1952, anti- Ayub
movement in 1962 and mass surge in 1969.
• Finally, after the Liberation War against the
Pakistani forces actively supported by India,
Bangladesh emerged as an independent
country in 1971.
2. Ghazouani wins Mauritania presidency with 52
per cent of votes
Mauritania's government-backed candidate
Mohamed Ould Ghazouani won the presidential
election.
• The electoral commission declared
Ghazouani winner with 52% of the vote.
• His nearest rival, anti-slavery campaigner
Biram Dah Abeid, came second with 18.58%.
• The election was the first in the sparsely
populated Saharan nation's history, since
independence from France in 1960, to choose
a successor to a democratically elected
president.

The United Nations Public Service Day is celebrated

2. UAE launches UN-developed anti-money
laundering platform
The UAE has become the first country in the Gulf to
launch a new reporting platform developed by the
United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime to curb
organised crimes.
• The UAE’s Financial Intelligence Unit
launched the new anti-money laundering
platform 'goAML', which has been open for
registration since May.
• All financial entities and Designated Non-
Financial Businesses or Professions have to
register on this system.
• The platform will help the FIU prevent
money laundering, financing of terrorism and
other illicit financial activities.

Jinping
Prime minister Narendra Modi chaired the informal

2. Saudi Arabia raises India's Haj quota by 30,000
Saudi Arabia has increased India's Haj quota by
30,000.
• Now the quota has been raised from 170,000
to 200,000, paving the way for 30,000 more
Indians to go for the annual Islamic
pilgrimage to Mecca.
• The issue of India's Haj quota was discussed
during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's
bilateral talks with Crown Prince of Saudi
Arabia Mohammed bin Salman.
1. NASA announces 'Dragonfly' mission to
explore Saturn's moon, Titan
The US space agency NASA announced that it will
launch a spacecraft in 2026 to explore the richly
organic world of Titan.
• A rotorcraft called 'Dragonfly' will arrive at
the Saturn's moon in 2034, looking for
prebiotic chemical processes common on
both Titan and Earth.
• It may lend clues to how life may have arisen
on Earth.
• Titan is the second largest moon in the solar
system and is an icy world whose surface is
completely obscured by a nitrogen-based
golden atmosphere, four times denser than
Earth's.
2. PM Modi outlines his 5 I vision in G-20 meet at
Osaka
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has outlined his 5 I
vision to maximize digital technology for social
benefit.
• He put thrust on Inclusiveness,
Indigenization, Innovation, Investment and
Infrastructure and International Cooperation.
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi also held a tri-
lateral meeting with Chinese President Xi
Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin
and discussed issues like terrorism and
climate change on the sidelines of the G-20
summit.
2. GDP growth slows to a five-year low at 5.8%
in the January-March quarter
India's economic growth rate slowed to a five-year
low of 5.8 per cent in January-March 2018-19,
• It has been recorded due to poor
performance in the agriculture and
manufacturing sectors.
• According to the Central Statistics Office
(CSO) data released, GDP growth during
2018-19 fiscal stood at 6.8 per cent, lower
than 7.2 per cent in the previous financial
year.
• The growth in the gross domestic product
(GDP) was slowest since 2014-15. The
previous low was 6.4 per cent in 2013-14.

The Reserve Bank of India will observe Financial

• The RBI has advised banks to display the

the fee waiver scheme
Assam government has hiked the parental income
limit to waive admission fees for students taking
admission up to Post Graduate level.
• Student’s whose parental income is less than
2 lakh rupees per year can avail the benefits.
• All provincialized government colleges and 5
universities are incorporated under the
scheme.
2. Telangana celebrates state formation day
June 2, 2019, marks the fifth Telangana State

3. Elephanta festival of art and culture begins
The Elephanta Festival of art and culture kicked off

4. PM Modi approves a hike in rates of
scholarship under National Defence Fund
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has dedicated his first
decision after taking over to those who protect the
country.
• Mr Modi has approved major changes in the
Prime Minister's scholarship scheme under
the National Defence Fund.
• He has enhanced rates of scholarship from
2000 rupees per month to 2500 rupees per
month for boys and from 2250 rupees per
month to 3000 rupees per month for girls.
• The ambit of the Scholarship Scheme is also
extended to the wards of State Police officials
who are/were martyred during terror/Naxal
attacks.
5. Kasturirangan committee submits new draft
education policy to HRD Ministry
Former ISRO chief Dr Kasturirangan led Committee
submitted the draft National Educational Policy
(NEP) to HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank
in New Delhi.
• The policy draft recommends incorporation
of Indian knowledge systems in the
curriculum, constituting a National
Education Commission and curbing arbitrary
fees hikes by private schools.
• The expert panel also proposed massive
transformation in Teacher Education by
moving all teacher preparation and education
programmes into large multidisciplinary
universities or colleges.
• It added that the topics will include Indian
contribution to mathematics, astronomy,
philosophy, psychology, yoga, architecture,
medicine, as well as governance, polity,
society, and conservation course on Indian
knowledge systems.
• The existing NEP was framed in 1986 and
revised in 1992.
6. PM-KISAN Scheme extension to include all
eligible farmer families irrespective of the size of
land holdings
The Union Cabinet approved the extension of the
Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana to all
eligible farmer families, irrespective of the size of
their landholding.
• The scheme for farmers was launched by
Modi on February 24.
• Under the original scheme, households with
agricultural landholdings smaller than two
hectares were eligible to receive Rs 6,000
annually as direct benefit transfers from the
Centre.
• The extension of the scheme will increase its
coverage to 14.5 crore farmers, an addition of
2.5 crores, the government claimed.
• The Cabinet also cleared pension schemes for
farmers and traders.
• The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Pension Yojana
will provide a minimum fixed pension of Rs
3,000 per month to farmers above the age of
60.
2. AYUSH Ministry launches ‘Yoga locator’ app
Ahead of International Yoga Day on June 21, the
AYUSH Ministry has launched a mobile application
to enable people to locate yoga events, centres
providing training and instructors.
• Yoga locator- a map-based location app, will
also enable yoga instructors to register
themselves and reach out to a large number
of people.
• It will be a permanent app, which will give
information about yoga activities happening
in their vicinity throughout the year.

3. Gun license applicants in MP need to plant
trees and take a selfie
In Madhya Pradesh, in a unique kind of initiative, the
tree will now have to be planted for the license of
arms.
• It has now been started from Gwalior, but it
can be implemented in other districts as well.
• After planting the tree, the applicant of
license has to take care of it for a month and
then will take a selfie with plant and submit
along with application form for the license.
• The Gun license seekers will need to plant at
least ten saplings.
4. High Court declares all animals in Haryana to
be ‘legal persons’
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has accorded
the status of “legal person or entity” to animals in
Haryana.
• It has granted them the “corresponding rights,
duties and liabilities of a living person”.
• The verdict comes nearly a year after
Uttarakhand High Court passed a similar
order “to protect and promote greater welfare
of animals”.
• Both the orders were written by Justice Rajiv
Sharma, who was transferred from
Uttarakhand to the Punjab and Haryana High
Court at Chandigarh last year.
• Justice Sharma was also part of the bench in
Uttarakhand that had in 2017 declared rivers
Ganga and Yamuna as living entities, a
verdict that was later stayed by the Supreme
Court.

6. ONGC topples IOC to regain the most
profitable public sector company
ONGC, India's top oil and gas producer, has toppled
Indian Oil Corp (IOC) to regain the crown of being
the country's most profitable public sector company.
• Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) reported
a 34 per cent jump in its 2018-19 fiscal net
profit to 26,716 crore rupees.
• In comparison, IOC registered a net profit of
17,274 crore rupees for the fiscal year ended
March 31, 2019.
• ONGC, in the previous two financial years,
had lost the most profitable PSU tag to IOC.
• IOC had also lost the title of being India's
largest company by turnover tag to billionaire
Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries in
FY19.
2. PM Modi to pay 2-day visit to the Maldives
from June 8th
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay a two-day
visit to the Maldives from 8th of June.

• It is higher by over 17 million tonnes than the
previous five years average production of

• As per the third advance estimates the rice
production is estimated at an all-time high of
over 115 million tonnes during 2018-19,
beating the previous record of over 112
million tonnes achieved in the 2017-18 crop
year.
• Production of wheat is also estimated at a
record of over 101 million tonnes, which is
higher by 1.33 million tonnes as compared to
the previous year.
4. Search operation continues to locate Indian Air
Force's missing AN-32 aircraft
The search operation continued last night to find out
the IAF's AN-32 transport aircraft missing since 03
Jue afternoon.
• The aircraft took off from Assam's Jorhat
with 13 people onboard.
• The aircraft lost contact with ground agencies
after taking off from Jorhat airbase at 12:25
PM.
• Indian Air Force has deployed Sukhoi-30
combat aircraft and C-130 Special Ops
aircraft on the search mission for locating the
missing Aircraft that last contacted ground
sources.
5. MP Cabinet passes a resolution to increase
reservation for OBCs to 27 %
Madhya Pradesh Cabinet has passed a resolution to
increase reservation quota for Other Backward
Classes (OBC) from existing 14 per cent to 27 per
cent.
• The matter will now be taken up in the
monsoon session of the state Assembly.
• The move will lead to the reservation in the
state breaching the Supreme Court-mandated
50 per cent cap to reach 63 per cent.
• If implemented, Madhya Pradesh will
become the only state in the country to have
a 27 per cent quota for OBCs.
6. Telangana enhances Rythu Bandhu scheme
The Telangana Government has issued a notification
to extend the Rythu Bandhu scheme for 2019-20 by
enhancing the amount from Rs 4000 to Rs 5000.
• The Rythu Bandhu scheme is the pet scheme
of Telangana CM K Chandrasekar Rao and
aims at providing income support to the
agriculturists directly to back their crops.
• The scheme, which provides Initial
Investment support to agriculture and
horticulture crops through a grant of Rs 4000
per acre per farmer each season towards the
purchase of inputs like seeds, fertilisers,
pesticides, labour and other filed operations,
has now been enhanced from Rs 4000 to Rs
5000 per acre per farmer per season.
7. Rajasthan government increases financial aid
given to girls under 'Aapki Beti' scheme
The Rajasthan government has increased the
financial assistance given to school girls under the
'Aapki Beti' scheme.
• The amount has been increased to 2,100 from
Rs 1,100 for the girls studying in class 1 to 8
and for the girls in class 9 to 12, the financial
aid has been increased to Rs 2,500 from Rs
1,500.
• Under the Aapki Beti scheme, girls living
under the Below Poverty Line (BPL) and
whose mother or father or both have died get
annual financial assistance in the state.
8. Nilekani panel suggests measures to encourage
digital payments
In order to encourage digital payments, the Nandan
Nilekani committee has suggested a host of
measures.
• The measures include elimination of charges,
round the clock RTGS and NEFT facility and
duty-free import of point-of-sales machines.
• The committee, which was appointed by the
RBI, had submitted its suggestions on
promoting digital payments to Governor
Shaktikanta Das last month.
• Among other things, the panel has suggested
that there should be no convenience fee on
payments made to government agencies by
customers and recommended that payment
systems use machine-driven, online dispute
resolution systems to handle complaints.
9. Ajit Doval to continue as NSA for next five
years
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval has been given
Cabinet rank in the Present government.
• This is in recognition of his contribution in
the national security domain.
• His appointment will be for five years.
• Last year, the government had set up a panel,
headed by Mr Doval, to assist the National
Security Council, which advises the Prime
Minister on matters of national security and
strategic interests.
2. Army commissions air quality monitor at Fort
William
As part of it's countrywide 'Go Green' initiative, the
Indian Army commissioned a "Continuous Ambient
Air Quality Monitoring System (CAAQMS)" at Fort
William Military Station, Kolkata.
• Lt Gen M M Naravane, General Officer
Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command,
commissioned the system, which monitors air
pollution on a real-time basis.
• The CAAQMS at the Eastern Command
headquarters will measure air pollution,
including particulate matter throughout the
year.
• In addition, it also displays wind speed,
direction, ambient temperature, relative
humidity, solar radiation, barometric
pressure and rain gauge.
3. AAI in pact with Boeing for modernising
India's air traffic management
Boeing has signed a technical assistance agreement
with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to jointly
develop a comprehensive 10-year roadmap for
modernising air traffic management in India.
• The roadmap is expected to be developed
within 18 months and it will be undertaken
with a grant from the United States Trade and
Development Agency (USTDA).
• The AAI owns and manages around 125
airports across the country.
4. World Bank retains growth forecast for the
Indian economy at 7.5%
The World Bank retained its forecast of India's
growth rate at 7.5 per cent for the current financial
year.
• In its Global Economic Prospects report, the
World Bank also said growth rate is expected
to remain the same for the next two fiscals.
• According to the report, private consumption
and investment will benefit from
strengthening credit growth amid more
accommodative monetary policy, with
inflation having fallen below the Reserve
Bank of India's target.

Sakhi’ in Tamil Nadu
L&T Financial Services’ (LTFS) ‘Digital Sakhi’ was
launched in 20 villages of Villupuram district in
Tamil Nadu.
• It is an educational programme aimed at
digital financial inclusion of rural women.
• LTFS in association with Sri Aurobindo
Society will train and develop a team of 100
rural women (Digital Sakhis) as digital
enablers, who in turn, will train about 40,000
others in using digital modes of payments.
• The company has also identified 500 women
from trades such as dairy, poultry and goat-
rearing, to impart enterprise development
training and upskilling.

3. CII launches new Index to measure fiscal
performance
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has launched
a Fiscal Performance Index (FPI) to assess state and
central budgets.
• The Index incorporates qualitative
assessments of revenue expenditure, capital
expenditure, revenues, fiscal prudence and
the level of public debt arrive at a more
holistic picture of fiscal performance than the
fiscal deficit to GDP ratio according to the
CII.
• As an example, the index will consider
expenditure on infrastructure, education,
healthcare and other social sectors beneficial
for economic growth compared to other
revenue expenditure.
• The CII has used this index to analyse state
and central budgets from 2004-05 to 2016-
17.

4. RBI imposes Rs 2 crore penalty on Kotak
Mahindra Bank for not adhering to its directions
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a
monetary penalty of Rs 2 crore on Kotak Mahindra
Bank for non-compliance of directions.
• The Central Bank had in March directed
Kotak Mahindra Bank to furnish information
about details of the shares held by its
promoters and to submit details of the
proposed course of action/ plans/ strategy for
complying with the permitted timeline for
dilution of promoter shareholding.
• However, the bank failed to comply with the
directions and a show cause notice was issued
to the bank advising it to explain why the
penalty should not be imposed for non-
compliance.
3. Piyush Goyal leads Indian delegation to G20
Ministerial meeting in Japan
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is
leading the Indian delegation for the two-day G20
Ministerial meeting on Trade and Digital Economy
beginning at Tsukuba city in Japan.
• Mr. Goyal will discuss developments in the
global trade situation, WTO matters, and
digital trade.
• He will also hold dialogue with other
participating Trade Ministers on current
international trade and investments.
• The G-20 Trade Ministers deliberations will

4. Govt notifies extension of PM-KISAN scheme
to all farmers
The government has notified its decision to extend
the benefit of six thousand rupees per year to eligible
farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman
Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme.
• The decision will benefit all 14.5 crore
farmers, irrespective of the size of their
landholding, in the country.
• Notifying the decision, the Union Agriculture
Ministry has written to all state governments,
asking them to identify beneficiaries subject
to the existing exclusion factors.
• PM-KISAN scheme was announced in the
interim budget, under which the government
decided to provide 6,000 rupees per year to
about 12.5 crore small and marginal farmers.

• The Group of Seven (G7) is a group

Bharat Stage-VI (BS - VI) norms for two-wheelers
have been released.
• In order to curb air pollution through the
vehicular emissions, the government has
decided to implement the BS VI norms with
effect from 1st April 2020.
• This means that only those vehicles which
comply with these norms will be sold and
registered in India from 1st April 2020
onwards.
• Bharat stage norms are the automotive
emission norms which the automotive
manufacturers have to comply with if they
want to sell their vehicles in India.

cyclonic storm
Cyclone VAYU over East-Central Arabian sea has
intensified into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm.
• It currently lays centred about 420 kilometres
west-northwest of Goa, 320 kilometres south-
southwest of Mumbai and 420 kilometres
south of Veraval in Gujarat.
• The Cyclone is very likely to cross the
Gujarat coast between Veraval and Diu by 13
June.
• The National Disaster Response Force
(NDRF) has mobilized 35 teams in Gujarat
and four in Diu in coordination with local
administration.
2. PM Modi’s two-day visit for SCO Summit at
Bishkek

4. Uttar Pradesh govt hikes old-age pension
In Uttar Pradesh, the state government has hiked old-
age pension in the age group 60 to 79 years by rupees
100 monthly.
• Now the old-age pensioners would receive
500 rupees per month from the existing 400
rupees.
• Currently, the people who are above 80 years
are already getting 500 rupees per month
pension that are fully sponsored by the Union
Government.
• The newly hiked pension will benefit around
44.21 lakh people in the state.

6. Abandoning elderly parents will now land sons,
daughters in Jail in Bihar
Bihar Cabinet-led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar
has approved a proposal to punish sons and daughters
who abandon their elderly parents with a jail term.
• The proposal of Bihar social welfare
department has provisions for punishments
which could go up to imprisonment if wards
do not look after their parents properly in
their old ages.
• The cases against the wards will be registered
under the non-bail able section in Bihar after
receiving complaints from the elderly

US retail giant Amazon has moved past hi-tech titans
Apple and Google to become the world's most

• According to Kantar’s 2019 100 Top BrandZ
report, the brand value of Amazon surged by
52 per cent to $315 billion.
• Amazon jumped from third to first place to
eclipse Google - which slid from first to third
place with Apple holding on to the second
spot.
2. India successfully test fires hypersonic cruise
missile
India conducted a successful first test flight of the
indigenously developed Hypersonic Technology
Demonstrator Vehicle (HSTDV) from a base off the
Odisha coast.
• The only other countries that possess this
technology are the US, Russia and China.
• The HSTDV is an unmanned scramjet
demonstration vehicle that can cruise up to a
speed of 6 Mach and rise up to an altitude of
32 km in 20 seconds.
• It has a range of uses, including missiles of
the future, and energy-efficient, low cost and
reusable satellite-launch vehicle.

user base
According to Mary Meeker’s Internet Trends 2019
report, India accounts for 12% of the world’s internet
users.
• Almost 3.8 billion people or more than half
of the world’s population is on the Internet.

third position with 8%, after being toppled by

4. Government reduces ESI contribution rate to 4
per cent
The government has reduced the rate of the
contribution made by employees and employers
under the Employees' State Insurance (ESI) Act from
6.5 per cent to 4 per cent.
• The government has taken a historic decision
to reduce the rate of contribution under the
ESI act.
• The new rate will be effective from the 1st of
July.
• It will benefit 3.6 crore employees and 12.85
lakh, employers.
5. HCL to roll out "Tech Bee" programme
HCL Technologies is all set to roll out "Tech Bee", a
company initiative under which it trains and hires
students who have completed Plus Two, across
several states.
• The pilot programme of "Tech Bee", which
was taken up two years ago in Uttar Pradesh
and Tamil Nadu yielded good results.
• As many as 700 students have now become
employees of the company while some of
them are pursuing higher studies as part of the
initiative.
2. India slips 5 places to 141 on Global Peace
Index 2019
India has slipped by four points in an annual global
index on peacefulness this year, finishing at 141
among 163 countries.
• Iceland remained at the top position,
according to a report by an international think
tank.
• The Global Peace Index (GPI) gauges
ongoing domestic and international conflict,
safety and security in society, and the degree
of militarisation in 163 countries and
territories by taking into account 23
indicators.
• Iceland remains the most peaceful country in
the world, a position it has held since 2008.

5. DGT, Cisco and Accenture sign MoU to skill
youth for the digital economy through it is
Directorate General of Training under the aegis of
Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Ministry
has joined hands with Cisco and Accenture to skill
the youth for the digital economy through its
Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs).
• Nearly 15 lakh students across all the ITIs in
India can access the digital learning module
via the Bharat Skills portal.
• This programme will equip students enrolled
in ITIs across India with skills for the digital
economy over the next two years.
• The initial phase of the in-classroom training
programme is being rolled out across 227
ITIs in Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Bihar and
Assam, targeting more than one lakh youth.

2. World’s highest weather stations installed on
Mount Everest
A team of Tribhuvan University and National
Geographic Society scientists and researchers have
installed the world’s highest, fully automated
weather stations atop Mount Everest.
• Total five weather stations, including one at a
record height of 27,657 feet, were installed
on the Earth’s highest mountain above sea
level.
• The weather station will record data on
temperature, relative humidity, barometric
pressure, wind speed, and wind direction.
3. Central Government granted the approval to
set up of e-Foreigner Tribunal (e-FT) in Assam
Central Government has permitted to set up e-
Foreigner Tribunal (e-FT) in Assam.
• It is a quasi-judicial authority which assesses
the question of the authenticity of a person’s
citizenship.
• It should be set up by July 31, 2019, when the
final list of National Register of Citizens
(NRC) is published.
• The CEO of e-FT Mission Anand Prakash
Tiwari said that the proposed integrated e-FT
IT system will be implemented across the
state for effective monitoring and resolution
of cases registered with Foreigner Tribunal.
4. PM Kisan Pension Scheme
Farmers will have to contribute Rs 100 per month
under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Pension Yojana that
seeks to provide a minimum fixed monthly pension
of Rs 3,000 on the attainment of 60 years.
• The central government will also contribute
an equal amount to the pension fund to be
managed by the LIC, which will be
responsible for the pension payout.
• The Modi 2.0 government in its first cabinet
meeting had approved a separate pension
scheme for farmers with an aim to cover 5
crore beneficiaries in the first three years.
5. Bharat Dynamics bags Rs 1,188 cr contract
from Indian Navy
Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) has signed a
contract worth of Rs 1,187.82 crore for supply of
Heavy Weight Torpedoes - Varunastra - to the Indian
Navy.
• The execution of the contract will be over the
next 42 months.
• The weapon will be manufactured at BDL
Visakhapatnam Unit under collaboration
with the Defence Research and Development
Organisation (DRDO).
• The Heavy Weight Torpedo or the
Varunastra is a ship launched, electrically
propelled underwater weapon equipped with
one of the most advanced automatic and
remote-controlled guidance systems.

Punjab Minister Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria met a
team of experts from Israel in Chandigarh to prepare
a comprehensive water management master plan for
the state.
• The experts will submit their report of
recommendations within 18 months.
• Earlier, the Israeli team visited various parts
of the state to assess the present situation and
the challenges in the water sector in the State.
• The National Water company of Israel M/s
Mekorot and Punjab Government had signed
an agreement in April 2019 after the visit of
Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder
Singh to Israel in October 2018.

5. ADB approves Rs 1,650 cr infra projects in
Tripura
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved
projects for infrastructure development worth Rs
1,650 crore ($235 million) in seven of the eight
districts in Tripura.
• The ADB would give 80 per cent of the
amount as grant-in-aid and the Tripura
Government would have to repay back only
20 per cent loan in due course of time.
• The release said that the Urban Development
Department of the Tripura government would
start preparing a detailed project report with
the support of the ADB for speedy execution
of the projects.

• It is the latest development in its effort to

Association, which will govern its new
digital coin set to launch in the first half of
2020.
• Facebook has also created a subsidiary called
Calibra, which will offer digital wallets to
save, send and spend Libras.

mission Chandrayaan-2 reached the ISRO’s launch

• The rover called Pragyan is installed within

• Chandrayaan-2 will be launched aboard
India’s most powerful booster GSLV-Mark-
3 tentatively early in the morning on July
15th with the aim of making the lander to
soft-land on the South Pole of the moon by
September 6th.
• India would be the fourth country to have its
probe soft-land on the moon.
3. India, Myanmar conduct a joint operation to
destroy militant camps in Northeast
The armies of India and Myanmar carried out a three-
week-long coordinated operation in their respective
border areas, targeting several militant groups
operating in Manipur, Nagaland and Assam.
• The first phase of "Operation Sunrise" was
conducted three months ago along the Indo-
Myanmar border, during which a number of
camps of north-east-based militant groups
were busted.
• In the second phase of Operation Sunrise
both the armies busted camps of Kamtapur
Liberation Organisation (KLO), the NSCN
(Khaplang), the United Liberation Front of
Assam (I) and the National Democratic Front
of Boroland (NDFB).
• Four Northeast Indian states share the border
with Myanmar: Arunachal Pradesh,
Nagaland, Mizoram, and Manipur.
4. CRPF to launch 'save environment' campaign
during Amarnath Yatra
In Jammu and Kashmir, apart from performing its
primary duty of providing security, the CRPF will
launch a 'save environment' campaign during the up-
coming Shri Amarnathji Yatra in the South Kashmir
Himalayas which is starting from Jammu on June 30.
• CRPF has made an appeal to the visiting
pilgrims as well as the public, in general, to
play their vital role in preserving the fragile
environment especially along the yatra area
in Kashmir.
• CRPF has prepared hoardings and banners
and will display these on prominent places
along the yatra route, including the railway
station, airport, bus stands etc.
5. Government to remove the minimum education
requirement for commercial driving licence
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has
decided to remove the requirement of minimum
educational qualification for driving a transport
vehicle.
• Under Rule 8 of the Central Motor Vehicle
Rules, 1989, a transport vehicle driver needs
to have passed class 8 to obtain a commercial
driving licence.
• The decision comes after a recent meeting at
the Transport ministry where the Haryana
government requested for waiver of the
educational qualification condition for
drivers from the economically backward
Mewat region.
• The decision will also help meet the shortage
of nearly 22 lakh drivers in the transport and
logistics sector, which is hindering its
growth.

Capacity Building workshop with Regional
Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and

India has extended USD 15 million assistance to
Niger for organising the African Union (AU)
summit.
• The summit is scheduled to be held in
Niamey from July 7-8.

response to a specific request made by the
Niger government.

quality and affordable medicines to the end
users.
• AMRIT pharmacies, operating under the
aegis of Ministry of Health and Family
Welfare, Government of India.
• They offer more than 5200 drugs, implants,
surgical disposables and other consumables
at average discounts up to 60% of the
maximum retail price.
9. Unemployed graduates in Rajasthan will get up
to Rs 3,500 per month
Unemployed youth having graduation or equivalent
degree will be given unemployment allowance up to
Rs 3,500 by the Rajasthan government.
• They will get the benefit of the Chief Minister
Yuva Sambal Yojana from February this
year.
• To be eligible for the scheme, applicants
should be natives of Rajasthan.
• The amount will be given for two years or
until they get employed.

a month's time to either get its house in order or face

Indian Navy has deployed Ships INS Chennai and
INS Sunayna in the Gulf of Oman.
• It has deployed to re-assure Indian Flagged
Vessels operating or transiting through the
Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman following the
maritime security incidents in the region.
• In addition, aerial surveillance by Indian
Navy aircraft is also being undertaken in the
area.
• The Information Fusion Centre - Indian
Ocean Region which was launched by the
India Navy in December last year at

6. Walmart to pay over 282 mn for violating anti-
corruption regulations in 4 countries
International retail giant Walmart agreed to pay
over 282 US Dollar to various US bodies to settle
charges of violating anti-corruption regulations
while conducting its business in India, China, Brazil
and Mexico.
• According to the US Security and Exchange
Commission (SEC), these violations were
conducted by Walmart's third-party
intermediaries who made payments to
foreign government officials without
reasonable assurances that they complied
with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act or
FCPA.
• SEC has charged Walmart with violating
FCPA by failing to operate a sufficient anti-
corruption compliance programme for more
than a decade as the retailer experienced
rapid international growth.

4. Triple Talaq Bill tabled in the Lok Sabha
The Muslim Women Bill 2019 (Protection of Rights
on Marriage) to ban the practice of instant triple talaq
was introduced in the Lok Sabha.
• The bill was tabled by Law Minister Ravi
Shankar Prasad.
• The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on
Marriage) Bill, 2019, will replace an
ordinance issued in February by the previous
NDA government.
• With the dissolution of the 16th Lok Sabha
last month, the bill lapsed, as it was pending
in the Rajya Sabha, where the opposition is in
a majority.

6. GST Council simplifies rules for registration
The GST Council has simplified rules for registration
and Aadhaar will now be used by businesses for
registration under GST.
• In the earlier system, people had to give
various documents and now, several
advantages will occur to the business by
using Aadhaar.
• GST Council approved imposing a penalty of
up to 10 per cent on entities not passing on
benefits of GST rate cuts to consumers.
• Also, The proposal to reduce GST rate on
electric vehicles to 5 per cent from the current
12 per cent and the GST rate on the electric
charger to 12 per cent from 18 per cent has
been sent to fitment committee.
3. Govt develops a National Strategic Plan to end
TB by 2025
The government has developed a National Strategic
Plan with the goal of ending Tuberculosis (TB) by
2025.
• Minister of State for Health and Family
Welfare Ashwini Kumar Choubey said India
accounts for 27.4 lakh estimated new TB
cases annually, which is the highest in terms
of absolute numbers.
• He said the estimated cases of TB in the
country is 204 per lakh population for the
year 2017 as per last year's Global TB report.
• However, India ranks 35th in the world in
terms of TB cases per lakh population.

• It got GI tag across four districts each in

prohibits usage of the term for similar

• The company said the audit of its
Formulations Manufacturing Plants (Vizag

Duvvada, Visakhapatnam by the USFDA,
has been completed on June 21 and it has
been issued a Form 483 with 2 observations.
• As per the USFDA, Form 483 is issued to a
firm's management at the conclusion of an
inspection when the investigator has
observed any conditions that in its judgement
may constitute violations of the Food Drug
and Cosmetic Act and related Acts.

Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has
decided to modify the format of driving licenses to
smart card type driving licences.
• Ministry has prescribed a common standard
format and design of the Driving Licence for
the whole of the country.
• This Ministry, through its flagship
application called SARATHI developed by
NIC, has a common countrywide database of
all driving license holders.
• The SARATHI application has the feature to
identify duplicate records online in real time
and access information about the challans if
any.

• The estimated investment per megawatt is
4.45 crore rupees, with a total installed
capacity of 500 MW.

6. World Bank approves $147 Million Loan to the
Government of Jharkhand
The Government of India, the Government of
Jharkhand and the World Bank, signed a $147
Million Loan Agreement.
• The agreement has been signed to provide
basic urban services to the people of
Jharkhand and help improve the management
capacity of the urban local bodies (ULBs) in
the State.
• The Jharkhand Municipal Development
Project will focus on improving the
municipal sector’s capacity to provide basic
urban services.
• It will invest in urban services such as water
supply, sewerage, drainage, and urban roads;
and strengthen the capacity of the Jharkhand
Urban Infrastructure Development Company
(JUIDCO) as well as that of the ULBs to
carry out reforms in the areas of urban
finance and governance.
2. Vaishno Devi shrine to have own disaster
response force by Sept 2020

3. Kerala tops health rankings in NITI Aayog
report
For the second year in a row, Kerala has retained its
top rank in the national health index.
• The report analyses the overall performance
and incremental improvement in all the
states.
• According to the Health Index 2019 released
by NITI Aayog, Kerala is the top performer
with a score of 74.01 out of 100, followed by
Andhra Pradesh with 65.13 and Maharashtra
with 63.99.
• Uttar Pradesh was the worst-performing state
with a score of 28.61, followed by Bihar and
Odisha.
4. IAF team to participate in 'Garuda' in France
An Indian Air Force (IAF) contingent, including
Sukhoi fighter jets, will participate in a joint air
exercise 'Garuda' with the French Air Force.
• The Garuda contingent will depart on June 25
and the exercise will take place between July
1 and July 14 in France.
• This is the sixth edition of the exercise which
is intended for both the air forces to exercise
together and learn best practices each one has
to offer.
• Earlier, India and France had recently held
naval drills in the Arabian Sea under the
Varuna series war games in which Indian
naval fighters along with the Rafale-M of the
French Air Force took part.

Prithvi-II test fired successfully
India successfully test-fired indigenously developed
nuclear-capable missile Prithvi-II as part of a user
trial by the Army from a test range off the Odisha
coast.
• The trial of the surface-to-surface missile,
which has a strike range of 350 km, was
carried out from a mobile launcher from
Launch Complex-III of the Integrated Test
Range, ITR at Chandipur.
• The missile is capable of carrying 500 to
1000 kg of warheads and is powered by liquid
propulsion twin engines.
• Prithvi-II was also successfully test-fired on
21st February, last year from the ITR at
Chandipur.
3. ISRO forms new PSU to commercially exploit
technology, launch satellites
The ISRO has formed a public sector undertaking
(PSU) named as the NewSpace India Limited
(NSIL).
• It will commercially exploit the research and
development work of the space agency, co-
produce PSLV and launch satellites through
SSLVs.
• The functions of NSIL will involve small
satellite technology transfer to industry,
manufacture of Small Satellite Launch
Vehicle (SSLV).

production and marketing of space-based
products and services, including launch an
application, developed by ISRO Centres.

World Bank India has signed a loan agreement worth

cover nine States and it will support the
government's National Strategic Plan to end
TB in India by 2025.

diabetes, India has been planning rules from
as early as two years ago.

7. Mumbai named India’s most expensive city
Mumbai is India’s most expensive city and among
the top 20 costliest cities surveyed in Asia for

Living Survey, Mumbai fell 12 spots and was

8. Zojila tunnel's project cost surges to Rs 8,400
crore
The project cost for the 14.2 km Zojila tunnel
connecting Srinagar to Leh has surged by Rs 1,600
crore to Rs 8,400 crore.
• Construction work on the 14.2 km long Zojila
tunnel project has been stuck since May
2018.
• Asia's longest and strategic bi-directional
tunnel, the Zojila project will provide all-
weather connectivity between J&K's
Srinagar, Kargil and Leh.
• It will cut down the time taken to cross Zojila
pass from the present three and a half hours
to just 15 minutes.
• Zojila pass, situated at an altitude of 11,578
feet on Srinagar-Kargil-Leh National
Highway.

6. RBI reduces repo rate by 25 basis points
The Reserve bank of India in its bi-monthly
monetary policy review today reduced the repo rate
by 25 basis points to 5.75 per cent from 6.0 per cent
with immediate effect.
• Consequently, the reverse repo rate stands
adjusted to 5.50 per cent, and the marginal
standing facility rate and the Bank Rate to 6.0
per cent.
• The six-member Monetary Policy Committee
headed by RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das
also unanimously decided to change the
stance of monetary policy from neutral to
accommodative.
3. RBI waives off charges for transactions using
NEFT, RTGS
With an aim to encourage the digital transfer of
funds, the Reserve Bank has waived off all charges
for transactions using National Electronic Funds
Transfer - NEFT and Real Time Gross Settlement -
RTGS systems.
• RBI has advised banks to pass on the benefits
to their customers with effect from 1st July
2019.
• While announcing the Second Bi-monthly
Monetary Policy last week, RBI has issued a
Statement on Developmental and Regulatory
Policies, mentioning that it was planning to
waive off these charges.
• The Reserve Bank levies minimum charges
on banks for transactions routed through its
RTGS and NEFT System.
• RTGS is meant for large-value instantaneous
fund transfers while NEFT System is used for
fund transfers up to 2 lakh rupees.
4. RBI constitutes a committee to review ATM
pricing
The Reserve Bank of India has constituted a six-
member committee to review the entire gamut of
ATM charges and fees.
• Chief Executive of Indian Banks’
Association VG Kannan will chair the
committee consisting of senior officers from
National Payments Corporation of India,
SBI, HDFC Bank, Confederation of ATM
Industry and Tata Communications Payment
Solutions Limited.
• The committee will review existing patterns
of costs, charges and interchange fees for
ATM transactions.
• It is to submit its report within two months
from the date of its first meeting.
6. FDI flows to India grew 6% in 2018 to 42 billion
Foreign Direct Investment to India grew by 6 per cent
to 42 billion dollars in 2018.
• It grew with strong inflows in the
manufacturing, communication and financial
services sectors, and cross-border merger and
acquisition activities.
• The report ranked India among the top 20
host economies for FDI inflows in 2017-18.
• The World Investment Report 2019, released
by the UN Conference on Trade and
Development (UNCTAD) said, Foreign
Direct Investment inflows to South Asia
increased 3.5 per cent to 54 billion dollars.
7. RBI penalises HDFC Bank for non-compliance
of KYC norms
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed a penalty
of Rs 1 crore on HDFC Bank for non-compliance of
Know Your Customer (KYC) norms and anti-money
laundering norms, and for failure to report frauds.
• The regulator said that it received a reference
from customs authorities regarding
submission of forged bill of entries (BoEs) by
certain importers to the bank for remittance
of foreign currency.
7. Tech Mahindra inks deal with Airbus
Information technology firm Tech Mahindra has
signed a multi-year contract with Airbus for cabin
and cargo design engineering.
• Airbus is a strategic customer and partner of
Tech Mahindra.
• The partnership will strengthen the

The State Bank of India is planning to expand its
market in Singapore by enhancing its relationship
across small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

services under ATM5 network across the
island state and two remittance centres.
• The SBI plans to offer its YONO app, an

8. RBI launches CMS for filing online complaints
against banks, NBFCs
The Reserve Bank of India has launched an
application on its website for lodging complaints
against banks and NBFCs.
• RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das launched the
Complaint Management System (CMS), a
software application.
• The application system improves
transparency by keeping the complainants
informed through auto-generated
acknowledgements and enabling them to
track the status of their complaints and file
appeals online against the decisions of the
Ombudsmen, where applicable.
• He informed that the RBI also plans to
introduce a dedicated Interactive Voice
Response (IVR) system for tracking the
status of complaints.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC)
