WORKING AT
HEIGHT IN
RAINY SESSION Weather conditions are important when
planning any work at height. You need to
identify, plan and respond to key risks:
o Do not climb the Tower while raining.
o Lightning (stop work immediately).
o High winds (give careful consideration to
lifting operations).
o Always wear Gum Boots while entering a
site as there is a possibility of snakes &
other reptiles hiding in the grown up
grass during raining season.
o When working on the Tower, if you find
any darkening skies, flashes of Lights or
increasing wind, Please come down from
the tower and go to the safe place.
o It is a good practice to use dry rubber
Shoes at work place
o To avoid being struck by lightning stay
away from open fields, high land, trees,
poles, other tall objects and standing
bodies of water. Stay in your home or
vehicle if possible.
If monitored carefully, weather changes can be
anticipated but sometimes changes can occur
quickly and without warning, if they do, work
may have to be stopped.
Always follow Nokia safety standards for working at Height.

Threat of
Strong Wind
Dos
1. Stop work at places with risk of falling objects or fall of persons. Remove or secure loose materials. 2. Secure plants & scaffolds 3. Use suitable personnel protective equipments e;g Safety Helmet, Gum Boots. 4. Evacuate to safe shelters to avoid exposure to strong winds.
Threat of
Lightning
Dos
1. Stop outdoor work & stay inside safe shelter 2. Stay away from Tower, metal pipes, cable structure or fences 3. Remove metal object from body 4. Follow safety instructions 5. Always remain alert on changes of working environment.
Threat of
Persistent
Rain
Dos
1. Be alert of signs of rising water or in-rush of water. 2. Be familiar with the escape route in case of emergency 3. Follow established safety procedures 4. Resume work at area only when flooded water has been drained away and the ground conditions are improved.

ELECTRICAL WORK IN THE RAIN
When stepping into a flooded area, be aware that submerged outlets or electrical cords may energize the water, posing a lethal trap.
Do not overload power boards. It is much safer to have another power point installed.
Stay away from areas or buildings marked with signs that read Danger: High Voltage.
Never, ever touch an outdoor electrical pole or wire that has fallen to the ground. It could kill you!
Stay away from transformers (usually large metal boxes attached to utility poles or on the ground).
Never touch anything electrical with wet hands or bare feet.
Come inside during a thunderstorm. Many people around the world are struck by lightning each year.
If you see a person who has been or is being electrocuted, call for help. Do not touch the person because they could be carrying the flow of electricity.

main wiring system or other reasons
which must be prevented by fixing the
faults in due time when detected.

Electric power tool must be properly grounded or doubleinsulated to prevent electrocution. Be sure to inspect the cord for fraying, cracks, and other damage before use, and avoid using an electric tool while standing on a wet surface.
Treat any downed wire as if it is energized, stay away and don't touch. If you see a downed power line, move away from the line and anything that may be touching it.
Be careful not to put your feet near water where a downed power line is located.
If you are in your car and it is in contact with the downed power line, stay in your car. Tell others to stay away from your vehicle.
Do not drive over downed power lines.
Stay away from accumulated water around electrical installations or that may have downed wires in or area.
Do not touch wet electrical switches
Always adhere Nokia safety standards while carrying out electrical activity.

Driving in the rain
Dont Drive too fast on wet roads.
A thin sheet of water can form
between the tyres and the road
which may cause one to lose
control because of aquaplaning.
Avoid excessive or sudden
braking. Always apply brakes
smoothly and progressively. If you
brake hard, the car might skid due
to the slippery condition of the
road.
If stuck in the mud, try sticking to
the 1st or 2nd gear and accelerate
slowly in order to avoid wheel spin
and getting stuck further.
Avoid deep puddles of water. You
never know what lies underneath
and there is a risk of damaging the
cars crucial components.

Carry out a thorough check on your Vehicle for brakes, steering, fluid Levels, tyre pressure and tread depth.
Make sure that your wipers are in Good condition and working properly.
In case the wiper blades are old or damaged, get them changed
If the visibility is low outside due the rain, switch on your headlight in order to increase the visibility and also so that the passersby can see your vehicle from a safe distance.

Checking the tread depth of tyres is extremely crucial. Groves in the tyres physically extract water from between the road surface and the tyre tread it actually cuts through the water, and provides grip. If the tyres are worn, the car will be far more prone to aquaplaning leading to loss of control. While tyres are important for safety at any given time, in the rains that
