MONMIA MESSENGER
Warm Regards,
Lorraine Bell Principal
Dear Monmia Families,
GREAT THINGS I NOTICED THIS WEEK Our trainee school leaders were terrific at taking assembly and doing the flags while the school captains
are away at camp. Year 5/6 Campers are enjoying their activities in Canberra. You can see all their fun on Twitter. Footsteps fun for all classes on Monday. Children were certainly scooping ice creams, wiping faces and
saying “Oh Yeah!” Check out the videos on Twitter. Year 5/6 Non-campers are having a great week with Footsteps, artwork with nature, visit by
local councillor Virginia Tachos, visit to TLSC to enjoy Grease and have lunch prepared for them and Damper cooking today!
The Book Fair is creating much excitement with all our students writing their wish list for books they would like.
1/2s learning to be safe online. 2017 SCHOOL CONCERT Tickets are selling fast. Make sure you get yours today. Remember the school concert is part of the Monmia curriculum and it is an expectation that all children attend, if possible. Performing Arts is par t of the Victorian Curriculum and is reported against in June and December. This is from the Victorian Curriculum: “Learning in Drama involves students making, performing, analysing and responding to drama, drawing on human experience as a source of ideas. Students engage with the knowledge of drama, develop skills, apply techniques and process and use materials and technologies as they explore a range of forms, styles and contexts.” The school concert performance is part of that assessment. Teachers are preparing the items with the children and have to organise costuming. They need to know how many children are definitely coming to the concert. We would love to have 100% attendance, as this is an amazing exper ience for your child/children. Family and Friends provide a free bus for the night for those families who cannot drive to the venue. Families have to be at Monmia to be picked up. PARENT OPNION SURVEY Thank you to all the families who have completed the Parent Opinion Survey. We appreciate your feedback. We are now up to 49% of the 75 families who have completed this survey. If you haven’t completed yours as yet please do so before it closes on Sunday 3 September. CODE CAMP Harold from Code Camp is coming to our school assembly on Monday 11 September. We are excited to be hosting Code Camp again in the upcoming school holidays. Dates are 4-6 October. Enrolments are being taken now. So don’t miss out on the fun in learning to code. Book now on www.codecamp.com.au SCHOOL ORGANISATION-PREP ENROLMENTS As we will be starting our planning for 2018, we need to finalise the Prep numbers to determine how many classes we will have. There are limited spaces left so if you have a child starting Prep in 2018, who hasn’t been enrolled yet, please complete your enrolment at the office as soon as possible.
Enrolments for 2018 are now being taken. If you have a child that will be turning 5 before 30 April 2018 and you want to enrol them for Prep, please see Ros or Norma in the office for an enrolment pack. Parents/Guardians enrolling their child will need to provide their child’s birth certificate or passport as well as their completed immunisation certificate. Appointments for school tours are available on request and can be booked by calling Norma or Ros in the Office on 9364 1007. If you know of neighbours or relatives living in our area who want to enrol their children for 2018 please ask them to contact the school for an enrolment pack. To secure a place in our Prep 2018 intake School Council has stipulated a $50 non-refundable deposit. This security will be deducted from the 2018 Essential Student Learning Items - Bookpack. SPOTLIGHT ON THE CASEA PROGRAM
THE CASEA FOCUS FOR THIS WEEK IS: Introducing STOP, THINK & DO!
Dear Parents and Guardians, The steps of STOP, THINK and DO are helpful in managing anger and solving problems. When you feel the strong, hot feeling of anger, you need to STOP to cool down your anger so you don’t hurt yourself or someone else. When your body and mind are calm, you will be more likely to think clearly about the problem and work towards solving the problem. Thinking of traffic lights is a good way to think of the three sensible steps you can use to help you solve problems. STOP: This involves not reacting immediately but recognizing and labeling your feelings. When you STOP and use a calming down strategy, you will calm down your body and your mind so that you do not erupt like a volcano. When you have your emotions under control you are more likely to be able to see the problem clearly so that you don’t over react and make the problem worse. THINK: This involves you considering seeing the problem from other people’s viewpoints. It is important to THINK about all the different solutions and work out which solution would work best for this problem. DO: This involves choosing the best solution and acting upon it to help fix the problem. It is really important that if that solution does not work then choose another strategy to fix the solution but remember to never give up. Sometimes you might have to try several different strategies before you find one that works for everyone.
Family Activity As a family, complete a maze together and talk about all the different ways you can get out of a maze. Discuss that sometimes there are dead ends so you have to go back and find another to get out of the maze. Sometimes people can see the way out easily but sometimes they can’t. Different people will see the problem in other ways and that is okay. Remember never give up solving your own problem.
I hope you found this article interesting and useful and please share any feedback you may have with me. Next week we will continue looking at the CASEA units. Warm Regards, Lucy Vorpasso

Introducing… Dear Parents and Guardians,
Monmia is a Bucket Filling School! We fill buckets and we don’t dip!
We use our lid to keep our bucket full and keep the drops in! I love how the Bucket Fillers Philosophy has been embraced by our school community this year. I know that we can keep filling other people’s buckets and make Monmia Primary School a warm, positive and caring place to be. When we all fill other people’s buckets then all community members benefit from these acts of kindness. There is so much to acknowledge at Monmia Primary School! Here are some ‘drops’ for you to read.
Remember that when you fill someone else’s bucket, you fill yours as well so keep filling buckets Monmia! Happy Bucket Filling!
Kind Regards,
Lucy Vorpasso

Today we did Footsteps Dancing and it was awesome! Funky Monkey was awesome because we were dancing so crazy. All the ½`s did it and we all had a terrific time. It was great to be outdoors. When we were doing our moves the wind blew and we were spinning which was hilarious! Tin 1/2 C WOW!! Today was great because we did some Footsteps dancing. It was lots of fun. I liked doing the warm up at the start and I was helping Caitlyn. I wish that we could do it again because it was so cool. Diellza 1/2 C Today we had a lady from Footsteps teach us some new dance moves. My favourite part was doing the Seagull move because we had to pretend to save our hot, delicious chips from the four seagulls. All the dance moves that we did were, the Funky Monkey, Seaweed, Super Soldier and the Chicken Nugget. These dances were super fun because we did some silly moves. I felt happy because it was so much fun and amazing. It was also good for our health because we were doing exercise. Lana 1/2 C Today at Footsteps we all had a spectacular time. There were lots of actions to different moves like the Funky Monkey, Seagull, Seaweed, Chicken Nugget and Super Soldier. We did a lot of exercise! My favourite move was the Gangham Style. When we started, I was nervous but then it turned out to be so much fun and hilarious. All the Grade 1/2`s were there and everyone loved dancing.! Yash 1/2 C
EVERY DAY COUNTS: Healthy attendance facts! 1. It is vital that students go to school every day. 2. It is crucial that you show your child that you value education
even in the early years of primary school. 3. Regular learning provides building blocks for the future and
regular attendance is essential to make sure learning is not disrupted.
4. When students attend school they develop academic skills and important social skills, such as friendship building, teamwork, communication skills and a healthy self-esteem.
