The Turning Point Parade & Festival...Commemorating the Ameri-can Victory at the Battle of Saratoga on October 17, 1777 duringthe American Revolutionary War.
In the months prior to October 8, 1777, the British suffered about2,000 casualties. Burgoyne's forces, now down to about 6,000 men, took refuge in a fortified camp on the heights of Saratoga (todaysSchuylerville). There an American force that was approaching20,000 men surrounded the exhausted British army.
Faced with such overwhelming numbers, Burgoyne surrenderedon October 17, 1777. By the terms of the Convention of Saratoga,Burgoyne's depleted army marched out of camp "with the Honorsof War" and stacked their weapons along the west bank of theHudson River at Fort Hardy. Saratoga was a decisive and impor-tant victory. It was the turning point of the American Revolution. TheTurning Point Parade is one of the largest parades in Upstate New
YorkThe parade marches on for one and one-half hours. It con-tains 15 musical groups and over 100 other units.

CAMBRIDGE HISTORICAL SOCIETY & MUSEUM THIRD SUMMER PROGRAM.Wednesday, August 14, at 7:00 p.m. the Cambridge Historical Society & Museum will hold thethird in a series of summer Wednesday night programs at the Museum on Broad Street. Mr. KenGottry, a local historian, will speak of his project - the history of the Yellow Brick Road celebratingits 100th anniversary. In the 1800s the flooding of Blairs Brook (now Owl Kill) made Main Steetand Spring Street impassable for days even after the briefest of showers. The East End and WestEnd were physically, politically, and economically separated. In 1913 the village voted to paveMain Street with yellow bricks. While the project served its ultimate goal of uniting the twocommunities, it also emphasized their long-held sense of independence. Following in his fathersfootsteps, Ken Gottry, a traveling computer consultant, dabbles in local history. Ken will relive thevillages history, culminating in the construction of the Yellow Brick Road by his great grandfather,William Hitchcock. Come out on August 14 at 7:00 p.m. and hear Ken relive this important eventin the history of Cambridge. The Museum will open at 6:00 p.m. for tours with refreshments tofollow.
