NOTE: Following contents are generally related to all Mondial folder configurations. the figures are for illustration purposes only and may not depict the specific model you are installing.
Convention Notes This manual uses two positional conventions for illustration purposes. The first is paper path orientation, that is left and right direction is as the paper moves from the printer through the folder. The second is the operator viewing position and is a normal left right orientation. See Figure 3.
Folding Style Comprehension All folds are from left to right. For example, Figure 1 shows a folded print with the title block on the trailing edge (position T2) and Figure 2 shows the title block on the leading edge (position T1). In both illustrations folding is from left to right irrespective of the title block location.
FIGURE 1 FIGURE 2
Display Comprehension
The Mondial technical documentation references the folder sides first and secondly, the direction of paper flow from the printer exit to the folded output print conveyor.
In this documentation and only in this manual the operator message display is inverted for readability (see figure 3).

Reference Information To help you understand the Folder, some of the commonly used terms and concepts are explained below.
Folded Print Dimensions
(a) Fan Fold This is the first fold.
(b) Cross Fold This is the second fold and is at a right angle to the first fold.
(c) Coverage or Last Panel
(m) Margin Area used for punching and/or binding prints to facilitate storage.
(p) Panel Total width (a+m)
Rotation Table (option only for Mondial B3,B4)
The Rotation Table increases the printer capability in that A1 ISO / D ANSI-Arch Short Edge and A2 ISO- / C ANSI-Arch Long Edge can be printed from the same media roll (22”-594mm-24”).
When this optional bridge rotation feature is installed, the print orientation can be physically turned or rotated 90 degrees in the clockwise direction. This is performed automatically to facilitate folding specific output package styles.
The Rotation Table enables the Printer to effectively have an extra virtual media roll. The Rotation Table allows printing of A2/C Long edge from the A1/D media roll to be rotated and folded correctly.
The dimensions below are intended for the size as it exits the printer before the rotation. (Illustrated at the right)
X dimension: • Only media rolls 22”-594mm-24”- Y dimension Title Block Position. 3: • From 400 to 465 mm A2 ISO, 432±5mm C ANSI, 457±5mm C

Media Definitions
The folder was designed to operate with bond paper (ordinary), 18-22lbs (75-100gsm). Paper not meeting this specification will result in poor folding performance and an increased occurrence of jams.
All non-Bond (ordinary paper) Media delivered by the printer will not be folded but will be automatically bypassed. Mylar or Polyester Film should not be allowed to enter the folder. This will cause a jam and may result in equipment damage.
The number and placement of folds is based on the type of fold selected and the paper size. Refer to the Folding Style Reference Charts for details on how the folds will look.
NOTE: Optimum folder performance is realized with normal line drawing prints. Continued use of high toner concentration and solid areas cause internal contamination and will result in lower reliability and performance.

Short Edge and Long Edge Definitions
The prints exit from the printer in two orientations:
SHORT EDGE
LONG EDGE
The prints enter the Bridge Transport and then into the Fan Folder in the same orientation. With the optional Bridge Rotation the C/A2 size prints that exit the printer Long Edge, are rotated by the Bridge Transport and enter into the Fan Folder with the Short Edge leading. For the above reason it is important to understand the distinction between the print’s orientation as it exits from the printer and when it enters into Fan Folder.
The word “Leading” is used when referring to prints as they exit from the printer.
SEL (Short Edge Leading)
LEL (Long Edge Leading)
The word “Feeding” is used when referring to prints as they enter the fan folder.
SEF (Short Edge Feeding)
LEF (Long Edge Feeding)

Title Block Position Definitions
The Title Block can be located in four different corners of the print as shown in the illustration below.
The Title Block position number is always relative to the feeding direction indicated by the arrow.
The two symbols “A” and “B” will be used throughout this manual to indicate where the Title Block is and when it is necessary to locate the Title Block to obtain the correct folding operation.
This will help to understand the operation of the Folder.
The symbol (A) is used when prints require fan folding and the symbol (B) when prints require cross folding.
Figure 4 Title Block Location
September 2014 Mondial Folder Operator Manual 10
Folded Package Output Orientation Definitions
Depending on the Title Block Location the folder will fold with two different Folded Package Output Orientations.
All prints entering the Folder with the Title block in position 2 with 2 cross folds will be delivered in the Flat Basket with the title page “Face Down” as in illustration on right side
All prints entering the folder with the Title block in position 2 with no cross folds, one cross fold or C cross fold will be delivered in the Flat Basket with the title page “Face Up” as in illustration on right side.
Output Style Definitions
The folder folds all prints into an A/A4 size where the Title block appears aligned to the shortest edge of the folded package (1) or aligned to the longest edge of the folded package (2)
The print that exits as shown in illustration (1) is called “Portrait Style” where a<b
The print that exits as shown in illustration (2) is called “Landscape Style” where a>b
Folding Style Definitions
Generally, the Mondial Folder provides three fold styles and are defined by their appearance, illustrated below:

Parameters to Input to the System
The printing system controller should be directed to deliver the print oriented with the title block position according to the Basic Mondial Folder Rules to insure that the selected fold style is correctly folded. Refer to Title Block Position Definitions To input this data into the system follow the procedure outlined in “How to Determine Document Title Block Corner”.
Basic Mondial Folder Rules
- B05,B1,B2,B3,B4: Title Block position 2 General
Preferred document input orientation is Short Edge - Butterfly: Title Block position 4
Exceptions
ALL versions: A4/A are fed into the folder LEF with any Title Block location (Title Block 4 if Butterfly with 6705 printer) B2,B3,B4: C/D Ansi folded with Program 8½ Landscape and
C/D Arch folded with Program 9 Landscape are fed into the folder LEF Title Block 3 while is not accepted SEF. BUTTERFLY: A2/C, A1/D with Programs 210, 8½ and 9 are
fed LEF with Title Block 1 (Title Block 3 if Butterfly with 6705 printer) or SEF with Title Block 4 B2,B3,B4, BUTTERFLY: A2 Afnor folded with Program
AFNOR are fed into the folder LEF with Title Block 3 B2,B3,B4, BUTTERFLY: A0 Afnor folded with Program
AFNOR are fed into the folder SEF with Title Block 1 B2,B3,B4, BUTTERFLY (excluded 6705 version): A2, A1, A0
folded with Program INVERSE DIN are fed into the folder SEF with Title Block 3
For ISO, ANSI, and Arch. documents fed into the folder the title block must be visible on corner 2 (4 if Butterfly with 6705 printer), A0 Inverse DIN and A0,A1 AFNOR documents the title block must be visible on corner 1 (B3, B2, Butterfly) or 3 (B4, Butterfly with 6705).
Special Sizes The Mondial Series Folder processes nearly all sizes with all folding styles. However, some folding styles require, for a better result, a specific size as described below. The A0/E AFNOR folded 8½ and 9 Landscape can be used with AFNOR and ISO documents. See Document Sizes Reference Chart
To obtain a perfect AFNOR or landscape that can be folded precisely 4 times folded print use only sizes with perfect dimensions (±2mm).
Title Block Face Delivery The title block face delivery is dependant upon the selected folding program. See Folded Package Output Orientation Definitions. Long Print Folding
Long prints can be folded up to 6 meters/ 20 feet in accordance with the chart on page 30. This chart defines the number of panels vs. paper weight that can be folded. These prints will be fan folded up to these limits with the remaining delivered unfolded to be completed by hand. Note, any prints that are submitted over the maximum limit above will be delivered unfolded.

NOTE: in B2 and B3 the “Z” style can not be used in american folding programs. “STYLE C”: This Cross Fold Style inserts the trail edge inside the package as illustrated below and is used to fold mixed paper series sizes. “STANDARD STYLE”: This Cross Fold Style includes both Style Z and Style M (see Cross Folding Style Definitions) that are performed automatically according folding requirements.
Selecting the Cross Fold “OFF” preference, the print is Fan Folded only and the prints exit to the rear and are delivered to the rear Fanfold Stacker.
The Folding style has to be chosen according the two following requirements: A) Minimize the panels number improving the copies stacking.
B) To get the folded copy with the necessary folding style and able to be held in a binder.
NOTE: When the “Z STYLE”: is selected and the paper roll width exceeds the standard fold program entered, the folder will automatically cross fold equal length panels as defined below.

Job Recovery Procedure
The Job Recovery procedure allows the operator to resolve printer / folder events (jams, end of roll…) without loosing the job sequence.
After a Paper Jam
1. Locate paper jam.
2. Remove it or perform the Eject Procedure. See Clearing Fan Folder Jams.
3. Reset the folder
4. The queue will restart [function is only available with serial communications between the folder and printer controller].
If no communications, the jammed document must be reprinted.
After the End of the Media Roll
1. Remove jammed documents in the folder
2. Access media drawer by lifting up the bridge (Mondial B3 and B4) or by opening folder – printer (Mondial B2 and Butterfly).
3. Install the new media roll
4. Pull down the bridge or close folder with printer, according to the folder version
5. The queue will restart [function available with serial communication between folder and printer controller]
If no communications, the jammed document must be reprinted.

Abort Job Procedure
The following procedure explains how to operate after an Abort Job command.
The Abort Job command can be run from Printer User Interface
[Function is only available with serial communications between folder and printer controller]
If the Abort Job command occurs when the document is already in the folder bridge or before it enters the bridge.
The following are the two possible results of this condition:
A. Abort Job command occurs before the document lead edge enters the folder bridge transport.
1. The document will be directed over the bridge (Mondial B3 and B4). The document must be removed from the Mondial B3 bridge to continue.
2. The folder displays the message “JOB ABORTED FROM IOT”.
3. The folder returns to the Idle status and the document is printed again.
B. Abort Job command occurs when the document lead edge has entered the Folder Bridge.
1. The document jams or the folder attempts to fold it and delivers it in the Rear Fan Folder Tray.
2. The folder displays the message “JOB ABORTED FROM IOT”.
3. Remove the document from the basket or clear the jam. 4. The folder returns to the idle status.
Manual Eject Procedure
NOTE: If the folder does not expel the paper, turn-off and remove the media by hand.
Manual Eject for Mondial Folders
The Manual Eject Procedure is displayed after Auto Jam Eject fails to clear the jam in the Fan Folder area. To access this feature follow the procedure below.

Manual Fold procedure - By Pass ( B3 Option)
The By Pass Option provides continuous operation by stacking unfolded prints on the top of the B3 Mondial Folder Bridge. With this capability, flat prints do not obstruct the entrance to the fan folder and can be removed at the operator’s convenience.
During normal operation, the By Pass Table has to be in the raised
position to enable stacking of unfolded prints
To perform the Manual Fold Operation, lower the table on the Bridge Cover by moving the support under the By Pass table, then actuate the reset button for more than three seconds. The guide should be positioned to facilitate the correct location of the size of the print to be inserted for manual folding. The
sizes are referenced through the window on the guide. Insert the print using the table Guide and maintain a gentle pressure until the folder accepts the copy; refer to manual feed section for more details. NOTE: return the table to theraised position to resume onlinefolding
September 2014 GERA Folder Operator Manual 37
Manual Fold procedure (B4 Option) (Only 721 printer)
The Manual Folding Option provides a means for folding prints off line.
Follow the steps below to perform this operation:
- Press Reset button for more than three seconds to enter off-line status.
- Raise the Bridge by latching the “A” Green Lever in the Upper position.
- Insert the copy with the title block to the Operator Side of the table.
- Follow the reference lines marked on the Guide for correct copy alignment.
B4 Special Contents
The B4 Folder can be provided with a high capacity horizontal bin; below are listed the variations especially for this version.
Folded Output Copy: All Folded documents are delivered in the horizontal output tray with a capacity that varies with copy size and fold style. Capacity is limited by the bin full sensor detection. Press the green button to advance output to collect the copies at the end of the tray.
The Safety Levers keep the Bridge assembly when it is raised: the levers fall into a slot locking the Bridge. Press one lever to disengage and lower the Bridge.

Press for disengage
September 2014 GERA Folder Operator Manual 38
Long Copy Entry Guides: Slide the two guides along the paper roll width rule to guide paper buckle when folder is processing documents longer than 1250 mm, 50’’.
Bin Full Sensor: The Horizontal Output Tray is provided with a sensor that stops the folder when the tray is full. When the last copy is folded and enters the Output Tray, the sensor is activated and the folding process is stopped until the folded copies are removed from the tray.
The Bin Full Sensor position can be adjusted by removing the two mounting “thumb screws” that fix it’s bracket and repositioning the assembly. Moving the sensor closer to the end of the tray delays the alarm and increases the capacity. Moving the sensor farther away from the end of the tray (closer to the folder exit) advances the alarm and decreases the capacity.
Please mind that the tray’s print capacity is a function of the sizes of the prints being folded. Larger folded print sizes result in a thicker folded package, take up more space in the tray, and therefore fewer prints can be contained. Conversely, smaller folded prints will be thinner, and therefore, more prints can be contained. This dynamic with the moving conveyor and variable print sizes moving down the conveyor, can on occasion cause the sensor to detect the proximity of the stack height and momentary sensing of a full bin and cause the “BIN FULL” message to appear and disappear on the folder display.

Client Tools When digital files from the CAD applications are submitted to a printer the Controller may digitally rotate to accommodate them on a media roll. For this reason sometimes the document exits the printer with a different orientation than displayed on the monitor. This digital orientation may confuse the user on how to inform the system about the title block corner location.
Use the proper procedure to understand how the Printer Controller rotates the image.
When the procedure is applied to one document and the title block corner is identified, it is possible to assign this to the entire job created with documents coming from the same CAD application.
How to Organize the Jobs
When using the Client Tool, the operator has to manage files from different applications. The procedure below shows how to manage documents from the CAD application saved as PLT files with a HPGL driver.
The procedure describes how to print and fold ISO size documents created by a CAD application.
Only the finishing options are considered, other printing options are explained in the Client Tool User Guide.
Client Tool List:
FreeFlow Accxes Tool by XEROX
Plot Base by RATIO
Plot Works by PLP
HPGL/2 Print - Post Script Driver “FX DocuWide C842”
Plot Works by “Grand Rip” from CALDERA
FreeFlow Accxes
1 Open FreeFlow Accxes Client Tool.
2 Add four documents ISO A0, A1, A2, A3 to the Printer queue
3 Click on Job Options icon and choose the Finishing Tab to set the folder options.
4 Choose the Folder Type “Mondial Folder Rel #.##”.
September 2014 GERA Folder Operator Manual 50
5 Choose the folding method desired for the document output
6 Sort Bin leave default
7 Choose Title Block. Inform the system where the title block is located in the document. Perform the “Procedure How To Determine Document Title Block” The Accxes Controller uses this information to correctly orient the document for the Folder to provide the correct output. On the CD ROM a directory name “Reference Drawing” contains raster file *.Tiff and by using a document viewer application it is
possible to identify the document orientation and title block image corner. For example a standard ISO A0 document, is a landscape oriented document and the title block is located in Lower Right corner.
8 Use the checkbox “Cross” (*) to activate or bypass the cross folder
9 The “Margin” (*) checkbox can deactivate the margin only for methods with margin: − For example, selecting 190+20 and deactivating the margin the folder will produce an output 190 without margin.
− Selecting 190 it is not possible to activate the margin to obtain a 190+20.
10 Set the Intelligent Title Block:
• Vector files, extension plt, hpgl: set • Raster files, extension pdf, tiff, jpg: set
11 Press the Submit icon to print and fold the documents of our job.
(*) In Butterfly Folder the “Cross” and “Margin” selections or de-selection have no effect.

Folding Using The Scanner
With the scanner connected to the system, the user can fully utilize the flexibility of the folder. When a damaged, curled or print with a reinforcement band on the lead edge does not allow for easily feeding a document, it is possible to feed it in any of the four title block positions that will accommodate the defect. See the prospectus below in order to set the title block according to the FreeFowe Accxes version. Note that the setting is different between the Butterfly and all other Mondial versions.
Up to Accxes 8.5 From Accxes 9.0 on
Select “Finisher” botton and choose “Title Block” from finisher menu. Scroll with “Next” and “Previous” buttons the Title Block position.
Refer to the label for selecting the Title Block: Other versions: choose LR; mind that to indicate title LR it’s necessary to select LL since the document is upside down. Butterfly: choose UR; mind to indicate title UR it’s necessary to select UL since the document is upside down.
The Title Block position scrolling is done by an user friendly icon selection. The current Title Block position is showed in the icon on the scanner display. Press “Next” and “Previous” buttons to change and confirm with “Enter” key.
Other versions: select with the icon as showed below:
Butterfly: select with the icon as showed below:
NOTE: From Accxes 10.3 on the Title Block selection is only with the icon on the display.
Depending on the scanner type, it may require the documents to be fed with the image visible or as in the example, image side down. Without GFI protocol all documents must be fed into the scanner with the document title block located on the trail edge, except AFNOR prints, which must be fed with title block on the lead edge. The following procedure shows how to scan a document, long edge feed, resulting in a 30% increase in throughput of the scanning process and improved document alignment (Only with GFI protocol interface).
1 Feed A1 ISO or D ANSI long edge lead document image side down and title block upper right corner.
2 Click on “Finisher” button on the Scanner keyboard: − Choose the Fold Program (i.e. 210 or 8.5”) − Preserve all the other Folding method options.
3 Select the title block Location. − Inform the system of the document’s title block position. With
this information the system will print the correct document orientation and feed direction to satisfy the folder requirements.
− Observe the “scanner label” to select titleblock “Upper Left”. 4 Exit from the “Finisher” menu and press the start button. 5 The document even if fed Long Edge will be printed Short Edge
Title Block Position 2 , if is changed the document feeding direction and relative title block information and output will be the same.
NOTE: When using the reduce /enlarge feature, you must orient and insert the document title block in the same orientation as the resulting enlargement or reduction copy size. With the Xerox 60XX Scanner: select fold program by number id , scan all documents Short Edge, Title Block, Trail edge ,Intelligent Title Block Rotation function must be turned off while using the scanner. See ITBR explanation.

How To Determine Document Title Block Location
To select the Title Block location on ACT, FreeFlow Accxes, the user must first determine the actual title block location on the image ACT displays with the particular software in use. To determine how the driver software rotates the document image and displays the title block corner of the selected document “format”, print and observe one copy with the following set- up:
1. Drag and drop one document generated by the application that was used for the “format”, into the ACT or equivalent submission tool.
2. Edit the document options as follows: • Scale print size to 10%. • Select the widest roll available. • Deselect any software image rotation. • Deselect the Finishing option.
ACT menu: Edit Document Print Option folder Transform • Scaling =10% • Rotation =0°
Edit Job Option folder Finishing • Folder Type =none or by- pass
3. Print the document. 4. Observe the document as it exits the printer from a position
behind the printer facing the folder. 5. Identify the document title block image corner. Lower left,
portrait is the usual corner for vector documents generated by the most common CAD application drivers.
6. Assign the observed printed document Title block corner information to the submission tool as illustrated in the figure below.
Note: Depending on the type of file being displayed the title block may be printed in a different location than displayed on the monitor and this printed location must be used to identify the title block for the system. The title block location is a function of how the print was originally input to the system. Some document creation software always display the document right reading regardless of the actual file orientation.
Once this process is used to determine the actual location of a print saved with this particular software, most all other documents saved in this way will subscribe to this convention and the operator will not have to perform this process and can select the same title block position for this drawing size.

How Intelligent Title Block Rotation (ITBR) Works
It is important for the operator to understand that there are different types of drawing creation programs in use today. These programs store information in two ways, by creating “vector” or “raster” format files. Generally, the files displayed on the Client Tool will reflect the way the information has been stored. The “vector” files almost always display right reading. The “raster” files almost always display as they were scanned into the data base and will print as viewed. You have learned that for proper folding it is necessary to identify the Title Block location. Since drawings stored in the “raster” format are printed as viewed, the selection of the title block location is the same as the viewed image. When drawing information is stored in a “vector” format it is not possible to select the correct location by viewing the image on the Client Tool. It is then necessary to perform the process in the previous section for verification. ITBR automates this identification and compensates for an incorrect operator selection. The system recognizes when the operator has made a selection that will result in an image rotation that will deliver the print to the folder resulting in an incorrect folded output. The system will automatically adjust the title block position selection and print the drawing with the correct orientation for folding. The ITBR is useful with FreeFlow Accxes and printing from stored data, but when printing by scanning in documents it must be deactivated. Scanned documents are presented in a “raster” format and the information that ITBR uses for proper operation is not included. Therefore, the resulting print will not be delivered correctly for folding. ITBR MUST BE OFF all times; user know where Title Block is placed on documents, to keep activated this function may result wrong printer output for folder need a Landscape AFNOR, INVERSE DIN fold program.
