Board Work Session Meeting
WORK SESSION
The Board of Directors of the Hampton Township School District welcomes comments from visitors, who are invited to address the Board at the beginning of the meeting. Speakers are asked to limit their comments to three to five minutes and if multiple speakers are addressing the same topic, we ask that you limit your collective remarks to 15 to 20 minutes. The Board will not discuss personnel matters in public. The Board holds a regularly scheduled work session for the purpose of examining proposals and recommendations made by the staff, public, legal counsel, consultants, or the Board. This process ensures a thorough review of all items before they are placed on the voting agenda. The public is encouraged to attend the Board Work Session. Thank you.

217. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
1. Purpose
The Board will acknowledge each student's successful completion of the instructional
program appropriate to the student's interests and needs by awarding a diploma at
graduation ceremonies.
2. Authority
Title 22
Sec. 4.24
The Board shall adopt the graduation requirements students must achieve, which shall
include course completion and grades, completion of a culminating project, and results of
district and/or state assessments.
All students, including Hampton On-line Academy students, are required to demonstrate
proficiency in meeting state education standards. It is a graduation requirement that
students demonstrate that proficiency on the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment
(PSSA) or any equivalent state assessment. Any High School student who scores below
proficient on any category of the PSSA or an equivalent state assessment will be required
to participate in the High School Tutoring Program and maintain a portfolio of his/her
work demonstrating improvement toward mastery of the state standard(s).
SC 1611, 1613
Title 22 Sec. 4.13,
4.24 Pol. 100, 102
The Board shall award a regular high school diploma to every student enrolled in this
district, including Hampton On-Line Academy, who meets the requirements of graduation
established by this Board. as part of the district's Strategic Plan.
There shall be only one diploma awarded by this district and no distinctions shall be made
between various programs of instruction.
A requirement for graduation shall be the completion of work and studies representing the
instructional program assigned to grades 9 through 12, which are aligned to established
academic standards.
A student may qualify for graduation by attending a district school part-time when
lawfully employed part-time or when officially enrolled part-time in a postsecondary
institution.
The Board shall identify the planned courses which are required for graduation. These
written plans shall be on file in the district and shall be made available upon request for
review by the designated representatives of the Department of Education.
Title 22
Sec. 11.4
The Board requires that each candidate for graduation shall have earned at least twenty-
five (25) credits. The fourth year of high school shall not be required if the student has
been accepted by an accredited institution of higher learning and has completed all
requirements for graduation. A complete list of specific subject area credit requirements
can be found in the Board adopted High School Program of Studies.
217. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS - Pg. 2
3. Delegation of
Responsibility
The Superintendent or designee shall be responsible for planning and executing
graduation ceremonies that appropriately recognize this important achievement, which
shall include the preparation of suitable diplomas for graduating students.
4. Guidelines
Pol. 213, 216
Accurate recording of each student's achievement of academic standards shall be
maintained, as required by law and state regulations.
Students shall be informed of graduation requirements.
Periodic warnings shall be issued to students in danger of not fulfilling graduation
requirements.
A student who has completed the requirements for graduation shall not be denied a
diploma as a disciplinary measure, but the student may be denied participation in the
graduation ceremony when personal conduct so warrants. Such exclusion shall be
regarded as a school suspension.
A list of all graduating students shall be prepared and submitted to the Board for its
information and release to the public.
Students who have not fully completed all of the graduation requirements will not
participate in commencement.
All students, including Hampton On-Line Academy students, shall be required to
complete ten (10) hours of community service per year to receive credit for all core Social
Studies courses. The community service requirement is the responsibility of the student
for each year of school.
Retention at grade level will not be the normal practice, unless the total number of credits
failed by a student makes it mathematically impossible to remain with the usual class and
graduate.

to serve in World War II, or the Korean War or the Vietnam War, the Board shall grant a
