Dear Colleagues, I have the pleasure of announcing to you that, after two years of preparation, we are now in the advanced stages of the formation of the Mediterranean Federation for Advancing Vascular Surgery (Me.F.A.V.S.) whose principal aim is to promote the cooperation between the major institutes of Vascular Surgery in the Mediterranean countries on the shores of Southern Europe (Italy, France, Spain, Greece and even Portugal) as well as the shores of North Africa (Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia) including, as well, the Baltic area, Lebanon, the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and all the other countries eventually requesting to be included. The Association is configured as an International Network to promote knowledge in our mutual field to be used for comparisons, updates on healthcare services, training, new technologies, progress in diagnostics, treatments and prevention of vascular diseases. In order to achieve these aims, the Association will avail itself of a multi-centre organization, set up to develop and establish teaching and research projects, academic exchanges, multicenter and multidisciplinary instruction training of residents and young specialists, clinical-assistance exchanges on open, endovascular, hybrid surgery and integration of curative therapies. This project has been initiated by the efforts of the Campania Regional Government in acknowledgment of the directives and regulations of the European Community, heavily committed to the Pro. Mis. Network which is part of the Horizon 2020 cycle for the utilization of European funds allocated by Brussels and to be managed directly by the Campania Regional government. The project, which requires a long-term endeavor based on comparisons, consultations, verifications, and meetings with specific international representatives, foresees the collaboration of the Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria Federico II of Naples. The undersigned has been appointed Coordinator on all phases of management with the involvement of all the Vascular Surgeons of the Campania Region. The authorities of the Campania Regional Government have well clarified that, by way of a network, the strategic objectives in the near future will consist of integration with other Italian regions united through the Ministry of Health and with other international networks. Other organization models are already operational in other medical disciplines such as Respiratory diseases, “Healthy and Active Ageing” and Clinical Nutrition. It would be a great pleasure and honor to count on your interest and participation at the Founding Congress to be held in Naples, Italy on the 1st and 2nd of October 2018. The Congress will be organized as follows: the 1st of October is dedicated to the political-administrative part of the network, including presentations on the different realities of the Member countries and their adherence to the network, while the 2nd of October is dedicated to a scientific meeting on various themes of Vascular Surgery. Regarding your consent and interest in participating in this event which is strongly advantageous, the Organizing Secretary will furnish more congress details to you.
