Eleven O’ Clock Toast You have heard the tolling of eleven strokes. This
is to remind us that with Elks the hour of eleven has a tender
significance. Wherever Elks may roam, whatever their lot in life
may be, when this hour falls upon the dial of night, the great
heart of Elkdom swells and throbs. It is the golden hour of
recollection, the home coming of those who wander, the mystic
roll call of those who will come no more. Living or dead, Elks
are never forgotten, never forsaken. Morning and noon may
pass them by, the light of the day sink heedlessly in the West,
but ere the shadows of midnight shall fall, the chimes of
memory will be pealing forth the friendly message,
“To Our Absent Member”

VETS CORER ELKS LODGE #2177
With Veterans Day on November 11th Carson City Lodge #2177 honored it's Veterans in a very gracious way. A Veterans Day dinner was provided at the Lodge. With head chefs Emblem Juanita and soon to be Elk Al Bergstrom. Elks and Emblems, we Veterans and our families Thank You for your service and dedication. As I was out of
the country I am very sorry that I missed this event.
On December 12, 2015, at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, located at Fernley, NV WREATH'S ACROSS AMERICA will be remembering are departed Veterans. This program places wreaths on Veterans graves. There will a short ceremony at 9:00 AM and then volunteers will begin placing wreaths on the Veterans graves.
We will be organizing an Elks Lodge volunteer group to assist in
placing the wreath's. We had 15 member of our Lodge participate in
this event and everyone thought it was a very fulfilling activity.
More information will be forthcoming.
Keep up the great work of donating items for the Veterans Guest House and the VA Long Term Veterans in the VA Hospital located in
Reno.
I have been out of county for a month, but anxious to get back to assist
Veterans and the Lodge within the community.
So long as there are Veterans, the
Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks
will never forget them.

I would like to wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season. I would like to thank all our volunteers who have helped make 2015 a banner year for our lodge. We have a lot of new members who need to feel welcome and I encourage everyone that if you don't recognize someone, introduce yourself and make them feel welcome. The lounge is the perfect social setting, OPEN 6 days a week, Monday Night Football, Shuffle Board Games the second and fourth Thursdays and not to forget, the Queen Of Hearts is back and has been improved where we have already had a
winner. Try your luck at the PULL TABS or the SHOT DROP. Hope to see you at the Lodge.

Veterans Day Dinner November 11th was attended by a lot of our Elk Veterans. Thank you
Juanita and Al Bergstrom for the wonderful Taco Rice dinner. Recipe above. More pictures on e-mail page 10-12.
I have had so many requests for the recipe that I used for the
Taco Rice meat for Veterans day I thought it would be nice to share it.
Here it is:
1 Tablespoon Chili Powder
1 Teaspoon Ground Cumin
1 Teaspoon Salt
1 Teaspoon Pepper
1 Teaspoon Cayenne
1 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
I did NOT use all of the salt or cayenne that the recipe calls for. I cut it in half.
This is per pound of hamburger. Salt and cayenne per taste.
Brown hamburger with onions per liking. After hamburger/onions are cooked add
seasoning mix with 3 tablespoons soy sauce and about 1 cup water. Stir hamburger
to combine seasoning, soy sauce and water. Let simmer for about 15 minutes until
water is dissipated.
