The obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and holy days of
obligation CONTINUES TO BE LIFTED. You are not required to
attend Mass at this time. You are encouraged to keep the Lord’s Day holy
with prayer and reflection along with a possible viewing of a livestream
celebration of Mass. Here are some tips: UNITE WITH OTHERS. It's better not to follow the Mass alone, so
try to do so with your family.
CREATE THE RIGHT SETTING. Take care of the atmosphere in the
room. GET DRESSED. Dress for the occasion: you might be at home, but
leave the pajamas for bedtime. GO THROUGH THE MOTIONS. Try to attend the Mass as if you
were in church, standing when the Gospel is read, kneeling during the
consecration, etc. These gestures are full of meaning. PRAY AN ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION. Although you
can't receive Jesus in the Eucharist, you can pray a spiritual
communion. WHAT'S THE RUSH? Don't be in a hurry. The Mass has incredible value, and right now there
are so many things to pray for. Pray for a few moments after Mass has
ended to pray for everyone: the deceased, the sick, health professionals,
government officials and, of course, the Church, the Pope, our bishops and
your parish community.

. SECOND COLLECTION The second collection next weekend will be for the Catholic
Relief Services. For over 75 years CRS has been providing
help and compassion to the very poorest of our brothers and
sisters in more than 100 countries. But we can’t do this life
saving work without your help. Please consider helping
Pope Francis’ Global Share the Journey Campaign.
Kids Corner How can you live out the Corporal Works of Mercy?
I can help people in need by giving them clothes, food and
drink. I can take care of my grandparents by giving them
company, loving and caring for them when they are sick.
Steven Strech, Level 6
How will you prepare your heart and mind for Christmas?
I can prepare my heart and mind for Jesus by making room
for love, praying and by going to Reconciliation.
Joseph Burt, Level 2
CARING for FRIENDS meals can be place in the freezers
in the lower church kitchen, mark each meal with our
parish number #42 on the label. Supplies are next to the
freezer. If you know someone they think could use this
service, please contact the parish office. 107-1

Our Christmas season concludes with the Feast of the
Baptism of the Lord. Jesus was not baptized because he
needed to repent — rather, He was revealing who He is and
what He came to do.
It is from His mission that we can receive the sacrament
of baptism — when we become adopted sons and daughters
of God. From that moment, we belong to Christ we become
His stewards. Our lives should be a reflection of this
relationship. The way we live should reveal Whose we are.
In our First Reading, the prophet Isaiah shares a
message of hope, “Why spend your money for what is not
bread, your wages for what fails to satisfy?” We should ask
ourselves, "Who is the king of our hearts?" As Christian
stewards, it should be God. We often fill our lives with
things that satisfy us only for a moment. If we truly do
belong to Christ, then we will make Him our top priority.
What we fill our lives with should reveal that He is King.
In our Gospel, Mark reveals the intimate relationship
between God the Father, God the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus and God the Father
proclaimed, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well
pleased.” We, too, have access to an intimate relationship
with God. But like all good relationships, it flourishes with
effort. How we spend our time and share our gifts says a
great deal about Whose we are.

THE BIBLE IN A YEAR!
The Bible in a Year is getting close to one
million downloads in the first week! Hopefully you watched the above video. If not, take a second
to view it and consider being a part of a journey that so many in
our parish have started! Ascension’s The Bible in a
Year podcast, hosted and narrated by Fr. Mike Schmitz, guides
Catholics through the Bible in 365 daily episodes, each lasting
20-25 minutes and includes: two to three scripture readings, a
reflection from Fr. Mike Schmitz and guided prayer to help you
hear God’s voice in His Word.
You will listen to the entire Bible through the “lens” of Jesus’
life, death, and resurrection. By reading/listening to the Bible this way, you will be able to clearly see how everything fits
together and day by day, shape the lens by which you view the
world.
Feel free to go at your own pace. You can do one episode a
day, or a few per week. The podcast will be there for you, on
every major podcasting platform as well as Ascension’s own
website.
