YEAR 4 OVERVIEW Monday and Tuesday Week 6, Term 3 2021 Monday 16 August 2021 Morning Session Good morning girls and boys! We are half way through the term and what a strange term it has been! Normally the classroom and playground would be buzzing with activity but at the moment it is quiet and still. That doesn’t mean learning hasn’t been happening. Across the suburb and beyond, Lindfield Public School students are busy with their studies. Waking up in the morning, following routines, being dedicated to achieving learning goals. Your independence, resilience and growth mindset are impressive! Even though we are physically distanced our connections to each other and school remain strong. Keep up the excellent attitude, always look for the positive and continue to ROAR! This week you will embarking on a topical writing project. Here is your chance to be an influencer! In Maths we will be learning about Position and in Science we will look at some animals with fascinating life cycles. Remember that the highlighted tasks must be submitted to your teacher by Friday. We look forward to giving you feedback on your fabulous work! Mrs. Batistich, Miss Chue, Mrs. Hamilton, Mrs. McWhinney and Mrs. Richardson. WRITING (50 mins) This week you will be completing a writing project. It has been assigned to you on Seesaw and it is called ‘Wk 6 Persuasive Writing - Reflecting on the Olympics’. In this task you will need to 1. Watch the video on ‘Using factual information’. 2. Select a topic to argue from the choice board. 3. Research your topic. You can follow the links for information about the Olympics. 4. Take notes of your research. 5. Brainstorm reasons for and against your topic. 6. Decide which position you are going to take for your topic and write the three reasons you are going to use in your writing. 7. Revise the structure we use when writing persuasively and the techniques you can use to make it a ‘gourmet burger.’ 8. Write your piece of persuasive writing. You can use the checklist on the final slide to make sure you have included everything. 9. Re-read and edit your work so it includes appropriate punctuation and spelling. You can work through this activity at your own pace but needs to be submitted to your teacher by Friday. As you work on it throughout the week, remember to save your work as a draft so you can continue with it the next day. Your teacher will be giving you feedback on your finished product.

READING Independent Reading (20 mins) Look at the Seesaw task ‘Independent Reading’. You will read a book of your own choice for 15 minutes or read the e-book assigned to you by your teacher. Teachers will email you if you have an e-book assigned. Complete a reading reflection. You may choose to make a connection, visualise what you read, make a prediction, summarise the section of text, or ask yourself questions. Record your reflection in your exercise book or on

Seesaw.. Shared Reading (20 mins) Your Shared Reading activity is on Seesaw. ‘Monday C Shared Reading’ or ‘Monday S Shared Reading’. Recess MATHEMATICS (60 minutes) Warm Up - Complete Set 21.1 of the ‘Maths Mentals’ in your booklet.

Position This week we are learning about Position. Complete the Seesaw task you have been assigned called ‘Maths Position 1 - Legends and Grid References’. For this activity you will need to: 1. ‘Brain dump’ everything you know about position. 2. Watch the video on legends and grid references. 3. Complete the activities on slides 3-5. 4. Use the grid references to colour in the picture

Fast Finishers Complete the Mathletics activities your teacher has set you. Additional/Optional Maths Complete the Matharoo worded problems found in your booklet. Choose your appropriate level. BRAIN BREAK (5 mins) Starting position- sitting on a chair.

• Stand up, sit down. • Stand up, raise your arms up to touch the sky, sit. • Stand up, arms straight out, wriggle all your fingers, sit down. • Stand up, raise your right leg, put it down, sit. • Stand up, raise your left leg, put it down, sit.

Turn on the timer, repeat the above routine for five minutes.

ART - (40 minutes) This is a Seesaw activity. Banksy is a modern, anonymous street artist. His most famous mural is ‘Girl with Balloon’. He writes the words on his mural “There is always hope.” Think and talk about what gives you ‘hope’. On your own paper create an artwork about ‘hope’. Upload your work to the Seesaw activity.

READING Independent Reading (20 mins) Read a book of your own choice for 15 minutes, record the name of the book and then complete the ‘Monitoring’ activity on the ‘Independent Reading’ page of your booklet. Shared Reading (30 mins) Your Shared Reading activity is on Seesaw. ‘2C Shared Reading’ or ‘Tuesday S Shared Reading - The Hunt’

SPELLING (30 mins) Our focus are words that end with the suffix ‘or’ which relates to a person who is something. eg conductor- someone who conducts. Complete the following spelling activities in your exercise book. Fold your page so that you have four columns. 1.Write the following words in the first column.

2.Write your words in Alphabetical Order in the second column. Underline the ‘or’ 3. In the space provided by the last two columns, write the meanings of the words eg Director- someone who directs, instructor-someone who instructs. Spelling Rule - Contractions An apostrophe (‘) can be used to create a contraction, indicating where a letter or letters have been left out eg cannot- can’t. 1.Write the following words neatly in your book, next to them, rewrite them as a contraction. Eg he is - he’s

MATHEMATICS (60 minutes) Warm Up - Complete Set 21.2 of the ‘Maths Mentals’ in your booklet. Position This week we are learning about Position. Complete the Seesaw you have been assigned the task ‘Maths Position 2 - Compass Points’. For this activity you will need to:

1. Watch the video on compass points. 2. Complete the compass rose. 3. Create your own mnemonic or movement

to help you remember the order of the compass points. You will need to film yourself saying or doing the movement and include a video on the slide.

4. Complete the activities on slide 4 and 5. For this activity you will need to follow the instructions and answer the questions.

Fast Finishers Complete the Mathletics activities your teacher has set you. Additional/Optional Maths Continue on with the Matharoo worded problems found in the booklet. BRAIN BREAK (5 mins) Go outside into the fresh air. Go to one corner of your garden or patio. Move around the perimeter of your garden or patio as you do the following routine.

• Ten deep breaths in and out as you walk. • Ten hops on your right foot. • Ten hops on your left foot • Ten kangaroo jumps (hands up in front, feet together).

Clap the patterns. You will hear each of the 7 patterns clapped 4 times before moving onto the next rhythm. Listen the first time through, then say and clap each rhythm along with the video.

2.Listen and learn about different instruments belonging to the wind, string and percussion families. After you have watched and listened to the link below, draw and label 5 instruments that belong to each family on the page in your booklet. I have done some for you! How many can you think of?
