Essential Question The Week of 14-18 Sep 15
“The victor will never be asked if he told the truth.”-Adolf Hitler
Why were slaves more prevalent on farms in the Southern Colonies as opposed to those in the Middle and New England Colonies? The farms in the South were mainly cash crop farms and these farms were revenue producing and had the capital to buy slaves and servants. The farms in the other colonies were mainly subsistence farms and they did not have the necessary capital to but slaves. The crops grown in the Southern colonies were generally more labor intensive than those grown in the other colonies.
If you had to live in Colonial America in the 1600s or 1700s, which one of the 13 colonies would you live in and why?

Using the “Triangular Trade” Handout, where were most of the slaves sent? Does this surprise you?
The West Indies (4,040,00) and Brazil (3,647,00) received the most slaves.
