Inspiring Derby 2018Monday 18 June to Saturday 23 June

Inspiring Derby 201822 years of inspiration!Since 1995 we have held a week of events and activities to showcase the inspiring city of Derby.

Organisations from across the city, led by Derby City Council’s Adult Learning Service, have come together to showcase and celebrate what the city has to offer. The week is packed full of opportunities to “have a go” and learn something new, to have a look “behind the scenes” at some of our leading businesses or to find out more about the history and heritage of Derby by visiting some of its unique buildings.

I hope you enjoy this year’s programme of events, most of which are free of charge. There is a wide variety from which to choose and there should be something for everyone but the activities are very popular, so most sessions need to be booked in advance.

Many thanks to our partner organisations who commit their time, resources and enthusiasm to ensure that the week is a success. I’m deeply proud of the city of Derby and I want everyone to feel inspired by all that it has to offer.

Councillor Ranjit BanwaitLeader of Derby City CouncilChair Derby City and Neighbourhood Partnerships

For Derby Adult Learning Service sessions, you are permitted to enrol on a maximum of two free taster sessions.

Introduction to Understanding Grief and Loss - Building Resilience against Difficult Times

Landau Forte College, Fox Street, Derby, DE1 2LF10am - 12noon

The death of a loved one, a close friend or family member, is an event we all have to face sometime. Learning to survive the feelings of sadness and loss is a process that is normal and usually time-limited, yet, in some cases, it can become a long-lasting battle with grief and pain. This process involves both emotional and behavioural reactions. It takes us through the initial response of shock and sadness, through acceptance and understanding, and eventually to acquiring new perspectives of our lives. This session will help you gain a better understanding of grief and bereavement and give you some ideas about how you can help yourself and others through the grieving process.
