MOM report – part II

Jean-Sebastien Graulich

as MOM (7.7.2008 - )

Shifts• Two shifts have been organised

– Parasitic running is well established– Documentation for Target and Magnets is good enough for a

beginner to start with– Results will be presented today

• Main effort towards having the Beam Stop removed– Problem with radiation safety

• Agreement has been found but it’s a one shot event– We have 1 week-end and only 1

• Starting tomorrow 18.07 at 14:00 until Sunday 20.7 at 24:00– We need shifters !

• Note that the problem of removing the beam stop will be solved when the removable beam stop is installed– Due for the end of the shut down– Next MOM will have to make sure it happens

Page 3: MOM report – part II

Plan for Next Shift

• Mainly – Beam line tuning– KL debugging– TOF debugging

• We plan to do a current scan of each Q4-Q7 to observe the one dimension focal distance using TOF and KL profile plots– Fairly simple experimental method– Fairly easy to compare with calculation/simulation– It requires changing the polarity of Q7 and Q9 because KL can

only give Vertical profiles• Hardware cable swap• This has been done• Back to normal polarity on Monday

Page 4: MOM report – part II

TOF0

• TOF 0 has been cabled and tested with scope

• DAQ is ready (since 15 mins ago)

• Online monitoring ready BUT

• NEED online reconstruction:– Profile plots ! Etc…

• Need shifters to acquire data with the beam…

Page 5: MOM report – part II

Beam Line Monitors• Dan Kaplan has spent a lot of effort when he was main shifter

(together with myself)• We have indentify a serious noise problem

– Pick up somewhere– Still present when HV is off

• Mike Utes will come and have a look, hopefully fix the problem• Dan has suggested to add some logic and require a coincidence of

the two planes to validate a hit. – Certainly needed if the pickup noise can not be suppressed– Not sure who will implement this

• Nevertheless BM have been used in one of the shift– Kevin will analyse data– First conclusion: X-view is Vertical profile ! (at least in the small counter)

• Again, I am note sure who can correct the software GUI

Page 6: MOM report – part II

DAQ

• A lot of progress on Particle and DAQ trigger systems

• Cabling has been improved. All signals labeled

• Ultimate test starts tomorrow– If we find shifters..

Page 7: MOM report – part II

Incidents

• Problem with the Fridge Compressor– Covered in Andy’s talk– Now OK.

• Perfectly managed by Mike Courthold

• Communication problem with Q4– Prevented us from using Q4-Q6 in the

previous shifts– Now OK

• Many thanks to S. Grifiths and his team, including P. Owens

Summary

• We’ll have first beam in the hall this week-end• TOF0 is installed and operational• Fermilab Beam Profile Monitors are under

investigation – have been proved operational (even though the rate

is low)

• DAQ is ready to include both and KL• Did I say that we need shifters for the week-

end?
