Last Friday all students in grade 5/6 braved the cold to attend the Northern Midlands Soccer Gala Day. Everybody had fun, participated, and represented the school well. Also last Friday, ABC Northern Tasmania transmitted their afternoon radio program from our school. This was a great opportunity to speak positively about our school and I thank the ABC for the opportunity as well as all those people who spoke on the day. A link to last Friday’s show can be found below. http://blogs.abc.net.au/tasmania/2012/05/ob-mole-creek-chudleigh-caveside.html Yesterday our Cross Country team went to Cressy to participate at the Northern Midlands Cross Country Carnival. All students participated extremely well and should be very proud of their efforts. Congratulations to all the winners of the healthy lunch box competition that I judged last week. It was extremely difficult to judge the winners. I hope the quality of lunch box contents is maintained throughout the year. A special thanks to Jen Geurts for organizing the competition and congratulations to her and her family on the safe arrival of their baby girl. Friday the 18 th of May is National Walk Safe to School Day. I would like to strongly encourage all student and parents who are able, to walk to school on this day and remind themselves and their children of the rules when walking to school and crossing roads. Grade 3 and 5 students began their NAPLAN testing today. This will continue tomorrow. I take this opportunity to re- mind everybody of the importance a good breakfast has on a students learning and concentration for the day. New Antenatal Clinic at the Deloraine Hospital Pregnant women in Deloraine and its surrounding districts no longer need to travel to the Launceston General Hos-pital to receive antenatal care, with the introduction of an antenatal midwives clinic at the Deloraine Hospital.

Conducted every Friday by Registered Midwife Alison Campbell, the service has been initiated to make antenatal

care more accessible to local women regarded as having a low risk pregnancy. Although women will still have to travel to Launceston for an ultrasound and two doctor’s appointments whilst pregnant, the remainder of their visits

can be provided at the Deloraine Hospital where there is little waiting time and parking is free and readily availa-

ble.

Alison is able to provide breast feeding, antenatal and parent craft classes on an individual or group

basis, and as all women must still attend the LGH for the birth of their baby, Alison can also organise tours of the

labour and post natal wards to familiarise women and their partners with the hospital environment. Deloraine

Hospital physiotherapist Esther Dobbyn is also available for antenatal appointments to provide support and educa-

tion to women suffering some of the aches and pains associated with pregnancy. Both Alison and Esther see the

provision of this service on a local level as a wonderful opportunity for pregnant women and their families in the

Deloraine area, and hope that the clinic will be well supported.
