CLUB PERSON OF THE YEAR - ADMINISTRATOR
Name: Mohammed Ali Syed.
Faculty: Computer Science
Club: Cricket
Position held within Club: Captain.
Reason for Nomination: Up to 2012/2013 the UCC Cricket club for many years had
been a club which was going nowhere a club which was none existent. This was a club
who had no structure, whose equipment was spread all over UCC and had fallen out of
favour with the Munster Cricket Union and the Irish Universities Cricket Association
because of poor management in the past.
Mohammed Ali in 2012/2013 went about to form a new committee revitalising the UCC
club with new members organising equipment and putting in place a training schedule
even during the off periods and because of Mohammed determination and ongoing
commitment we have a much healthier club which brought home its first silverware this
year after many years of nothing. We not only have players who are experienced but
those who are not and who Mohammed through a Coach and many of the other senior
players take the time to coach. Training is organised twice a week and this involves the
organising of the grounds to train on, key collection and the communicating between all
the members of which Mohammed was a vital part in setting up the many lines of
communications. This should be further acknowledged in the time spent organising the
many fixtures weather it has to do with transport, accommodation or the team. This
also involves purchasing and ensuring the Club has equipment throughout the year.
Mohammed over the year has dedicated an enormous amount of his personal time to
the Club and this hard work has not gone unnoticed. He has established a good
working relationship with the Munster Cricket Union and the Irish Universities
Cricket Association allowing the Club to be re-admitted back into all tournaments.
Here is a Club that has grown in just over a year or two from nothing to the Semi
Finals of the Intervarsity outdoor tournament to the winners of the Intervarsity
indoor championship tournament this year and without the organisational and
management skills of Mohammed Syed this might never have happened.
