and they are used together to increase TQM effectiveness.

He informed that this tool can be put to task on a monthly basis, keeping in view the last 30 days output, per

individual, per machine. This will automatically allow us to focus on improvement. This will help us to identify

the non-value added and value added actions. These tools are put into use once plans are in place for

The second in series webinar with NPC-GIZ collaboration was held on 28th October, 2020 on the subject “Waste Minimization - Need of the Hour”. Anurag Aggarwal, Former President MIA welcomed the speaker Natrajan Pratap, Director, National Productivity Council, RD Gandhinagar to the second webinar being conducted by NPC New Delhi. Mr. Natrajan has completed his Master's Degree in Environmental Engineering and Bachelor’s Degree in

Chemical Engineering. He has over 17 years of expertise in the field of Waste Management and Pollution

Prevention and Control.

The speaker defined waste minimization as

”Identifying and minimizing waste and using

resources judiciously is the need of the hour.

Waste like Defective Product/ Air emissions/

Waste water/ Solid wastes/ Hazardous wastes/

Excess Energy/ Excess Water usage/ Raw

material losses / By-products which need to be

identified.”

Waste Minimization would result in cleaner

production but we have to identify where or why

waste is being generated. There are various tools

to identify waste and prevent them. To identify

the source of waste the MFCA Model is the key. MFCA= Material Flow Cost Account.

Once we recognise the necessity for improving our product we will ultimately Take Action to identify and

minimize waste at its source itself. This is to be followed by PDCA: Plan Do Check and Add for which Planning

is the most important stage. After following the above model the following internal and external benefits are

derived: Increased Profit, Resource Efficiency, Increased Productivity, Contributing to sustainable

Development. External benefits: reduced environmental impact and wastage. The session concluded with a

vote of thanks to the Speaker.

The issue of non-movement of trains causing shortage of raw material for the industry was highlighted by Mohali Industries Association. Other than raw material, exporters are also facing heavy losses as trains are not moving and containers carrying finished goods for exports are also stranded mid-way. Due to the forthcoming Christmas and New Year Europe will be closed and exporters will be unable to meet their commitments. Industry is staring at huge losses and micro and small industries are finding it difficult to meet their day to day expenses. Meanwhile, shortage of power will bring industry to a halt.

Mohali Industries Association in association with GIZ India organized a webinar on “Defining Sales & Business Strategies in the New Normal” on 13.10.2020. The session was conducted by Mr. Sanjay Kher, President of Oceanic B2B, a boutique advisory agency providing services in areas of sales, marketing & growth consulting to small& medium businesses & start-ups and help them to accelerate their business growth.

Consultant Sanjay Kher informed that in the post COVID scenario the global trade is projected to decline between 13% to 32%. Hence due to COVID there is a change and we have to re-define our plans and strategy and change the way we do business: MSMEs are facing the following challenges: Uncertainty in markets/ No demand/ sales, Manpower issue/Idle equipment & stocks, Disruption in supply chain/Finance/ cash flow. Although the Government of India has announced an economic stimulus for MSMEs, we have to remodel the SME Business Plan and take action on the same.

An overall re-structuring of business plans is required to get the desired results. MSMEs need to analyse market trends, their strengths & weaknesses of product strategies and understand the need of the customer. MSME need to Re-set Sales targets, Redefine Lead Generation Models, Experiment your strategies, Utilise Digital Tools, Maintain Customer Database, Follow structured email communication, KYC- Know your customer, Adapt to the current situation:

Training and development – Internal & external is very important.

Reconnect with all stake holders, past, present and future.

Communicate with your customers. They are waiting for you. Communicate with empathy.

Ask your clients about their business, how they are selling, tell them that you are there to help.

With this Mr. Sanjay Kher completed the very informative presentation. He also shared the various verticals of the SME Accelerator Program through which his company would be able to help and guide the entrepreneurs to perform better.

Member units should not think in short term prospective, strategize for long term. Make your website

content mobile ready. Market linkages should be built and maintained and most important requirement

is course correction. Client segmentation.

President Yogesh Sagar and Former President Anurag Aggarwal thanked Sanjay Kher for the informative

presentation.
