Meaning of OOGOut of Gauge cargo referred to as non-standard or over standard, is cargo whose transfer requires the use of special means of transport and lifting facilities with a capacity adequate for cargo weight. Taking into account the dimensions, weight and shape of oversize cargo .

INTRODUCTION

Oversized cargo is any load that can't be broken down into smaller loads without undue expense or risk of damage.

These loads include very large, wide or heavy loads generally carried for construction or engineering businesses, such as:

•Large pieces of industrial equipment – Ex: turbines or transformers•Storage tanks•Bridge beams•Excavator or dump truck parts•Wind turbine blades

TYPE OF OOG CARGO

•Out of gauge cargo includes non-standard large and heavy pieces of cargo which are usually part of advanced infrastructural high priority energy and technology projects.

•Oversize transport often needs to travel over a considerable distance. In many cases, national borders have to be crossed. Various modes of transport are used to carry oversize units, often including maritime transport.

•Almost all major investment projects require transport of equipment and their components bigger than the size of trailers or containers. Non-standard cargoes create non-standard problems.

Warehousing

a) Open warehouseProvide are large scales of area for the warehousing activities without much involvement from the material handling equipment. Mostly only use huge size of crane and trailers that can be called as heavy duty flatbed, step deck and flatbed to move the goods.

b) Open floorGoods are placed on the floor according to arrangement of size and type of the goods. There is not much warehousing storage system like racking system and it’s only use the same material handling equipment like at the open warehouse.

a)CraneCrane is the main material handling equipment that need to be used in handling the oversized cargo. Use to put goods onto the step deck trailer of truck.

b) Step deck i. A step deck trailer of truck is required manual

material handling equipment to place the oversized cargo on it body.

ii. Ideal for oversized freight and heavy machinery, Step Deck trucks are a cost-effective logistics option for long haul freight demands.

Step Deck transport is also commonly used for:•Construction equipment•Pipelines

c) Flatbed Goods like machinery or agriculture machine able to directly move onto the flatbed body of the truck.

d)  Heavy duty flatbed ( shipyard transporter)Heavy shipyard transporter is use to move ship section in shipyard area for short distance movement.

•To ensure the goods is always in good condition

•To protect the goods from damaged by the corrosion.

•To make sure the stock and quantity of goods is always enough when required.

•To ensure the goods get the best supervision by the supervisor.

In 1989 the world largest aircraft Antonov's An-225 Mriya is being built. It’s can carry 200 tons on their back or 250 tons inside. It is used to this day for transporting heavy and/or oversized cargo.
