The module is designed to enable healthcare professionals to become champions of evidence-based infection prevention and control practice. The module provides specialist teaching, delivered in conjunction with health service partner organisations, including, University of Limerick Hospital Group and the Health Service Executive Mid-West Community Healthcare, CHO 3, demonstrating a contemporary and multidisciplinary approach to infection prevention and control education. On successful completion of the module students will be equipped with knowledge and skills to critically explore models, principles and standards underpinning infection prevention and control practice and to critically explore the impact of these practices on the management of healthcare associated infections. Students will be able to utilise research and specialised knowledge, skills, and abilities in clinical decision-making and problem solving and will have developed emerging leadership capability in the field. Students will appreciate the value of a collaborative and multidisciplinary team approach to managing infection prevention and control strategies and clinical programmes. *The module can be taken as a stand-alone module or as part of the MSc Nursing Programmes offered by the Department of Nursing and Midwifery. or a programme of study, a maximum of 2 modules can be exempted from a programme. Students must enrol on a programme to receive an award.
