Compulsory Modules: Financial Management

Marketing
Students gain an overview of the foundations of
business administration. They are familiar with
the basic categories of modern management
theory and are introduced to marketing mindsets,
instruments and methods.

3FW-WIMA-10 Business and Financial Mathematics
The module imparts basic mathematical
knowledge of analysis, linear algebra and linear
optimization and extends it to the requirements of
economics.

3FW-BÜRE-10 Civil Law (BGB)
The module provides an introduction to the basic
structures of private law in general and civil law in
particular. Focus is placed on contractual law as
the core of private law and the economic system.
Furthermore, the module offers an introduction to
the elements of public law.

3FW-FIBU-10 Financial Accounting
The module deals with the main areas and tasks
of accounting. It focuses on the principles and
techniques of double-entry accounting.

3FW-BILA-20 Balancing and Taxes
Building on the technique of double-entry
accounting, the module deals with the conceptual
principles of external accounting and the
elements of financial reporting. Starting from the
economic purpose of accounting, students are
introduced to the legal framework and the
concrete structure of national commercial law
(HGB) and international accounting (IFRS).
Furthermore, the module addresses the basic
principles and systematics of selected types of
business taxes (income tax, corporation tax,
VAT) and the procedural law of the German
Fiscal Code.
2nd Semester 5 ECTS
3FW-MIKRO-20 Microeconomics
Students acquire fundamental knowledge of
economics, which enables them to analyze and
assess business management issues from an
economic perspective. Focus is placed on the
mediation of microeconomic issues.

This module imparts the mathematical-statistical
methods and the principles of probability theory
as a basis for implementation in sound empirical

understanding of macroeconomic
interrelationships, which includes both real
economic and monetary aspects.

The module imparts the basic knowledge of
commercial law relevant to the practical part of
the degree program. Focus is placed on
commercial and corporate law as well as labor
law.

3FW-ORPER-40 Organization and Personnel Management
The module addresses organization as an
important management function. Moreover,
students are introduced to the principles of
project management, its tools and methods, the
acquisition of knowledge about the performance
spectrum of personnel management as the sum
of the employee-related organizational and
administrative tasks in the company.
4th Semester 5 ECTS
3FW-WIPOL-40 Economic Policy and Business Ethics
The module discusses the importance of
stabilization policy in the context of economic,
monetary, labor market and financial policy and
considers the problems of the globalization
process from an economic and social policy
perspective. The module also includes an
introduction to the basic problems of general
ethics and the presentation of current concepts of
economic and business ethics.
4th Semester 5 ECTS
3FW-STRAF-50 Strategy in the Financial Services Market
The module aims imparts solid knowledge related
to the corporate strategic behavior of financial
service providers. Students apply interactive
teaching methods to learn how to classify
financial service providers as part of the overall
economy and to derive the effects that changing
conditions have on the optimal corporate
strategy.

3FW-GRUBA-10 Foundations of Banking Management
The module aims to impart knowledge of the
nature and tasks of banks in the context of
society as a whole and the various banking
services. Payment transactions and the deposit
business are comprehensively discussed, taking
into account legal regulations.

This English language module meets the needs
of Bachelor students in a cooperative degree
course, provides an introduction to general
aspects of business and finance in a company

Students are familiarized with essential asset
classes with their characteristics, risks and
returns, including the legal and tax framework for
financial instruments. Further emphasis is placed

The module focuses on the management of
financing and investments as core financial
issues. Furthermore, students gain an
understanding of the contents and methods of
balance sheet analyses.

This module deals with the economic relevance
of implementing modern information technology.
Starting from the potential of information

Students reflect on the idea of the business

3FW-BBENG-34 Basic English for Banking
As the second step within a three-level modular
business English course, this part systematically
develops key language skills for efficient
communication in the fields of banking. Great
emphasis is placed on helping students boost
their lexical range (banking terminology).

The module aims to impart profound knowledge
of derivative financial instruments in terms of
structure, function, calculation bases and areas
of application.

3FW-RISKB-50 Risk Management in Banks
The module aims to impart profound knowledge
of risk management as a multidimensional
system. Students acquire knowledge of the
typical risks of banking transactions including
their analysis, measurement and control.

3FW-CFINV-50 Corporate Finance and Investment Banking
The part focusing on corporate finance aims to
impart fundamental knowledge of capital market
theory, corporate financing and valuation. The
part on investment banking deals with services
that go beyond the classic financing business.

The module aims to impart fundamental
knowledge of the insurance business. Students
are enabled to understand the characteristics of
different insurance services.

3FW-BAST-60 Bank Management
The module aims to provide profound knowledge
of bank management. Main emphasis is placed
on knowledge of the legal framework, the models
for determining banking success and the
derivation of business policy objectives. The
business game simulates banking business
areas such as volume and interest business,
asset management, marketing and the personnel
deployment of a bank, taking into account
different customer segments.
6th Semester 5 ECTS
3FW-UNTFÜ-60 Corporate Management
Starting from the company life cycle and the
levels of corporate management, the module
addresses questions of normative, strategic and
operational management of companies. Students
are provided with a theoretical foundation which
enables them to discuss their practical
experience in business in order to derive
management recommendations for everyday
corporate life. In this context, particular emphasis
is placed on questions of normative and strategic
corporate management, business and corporate
ethics, employee management and operational
controlling.

Building on marketing expertise, the module
imparts knowledge of the contents and specifics
of marketing in the banking and financial services
sector.

Compulsory Modules: Insurance Management
3FW-VGLVM-10 Foundations of the Insurance Industry
In this module, students gain an insight into the
economic activities of an insurance company.
References are made to sub-areas of general
economics and insurance management.
Moreover, the module provides an introduction to
the social security system in Germany and
imparts essential principles of insurance contract
law and insurance supervisory law.

3FW-VPKSV-20 Private Automobile, Property and Asset
Insurance
The module aims to impart and present the
classic and, in terms of turnover, most important
area of composite insurance. In the private
customer segment, this includes the structural
units of property insurance, liability insurance,
automobile insurance and legal costs insurance.

This English language module meets the needs
of Bachelor students in a cooperative degree
course, provides an introduction to general
aspects of business and finance in a company

Students reflect on the idea of the business
model and its differentiation from and overlap
with competing approaches. They become
acquainted with marketing and sales as two
central dimensions of business model design.

systematics of data protection and learn to apply
components of secure communication within
computers and computer networks.
3rd Semester 5 ECTS
3FW-VFMKR-30 Financial Management and Cost Accounting
The module focuses on the quantitative analysis
of the financial statements and management
reports to be published annually in accordance
with the German Commercial Code (HGB) and
international accounting standards (IFRS).
Moreover, students learn how to present internal
company information from the field of cost and
performance accounting. Further contents of the
module include approaches to value creation and
knowledge about making investment and
financing decisions.
3rd Semester 5 ECTS
3FW-VPKAV-30 Personal Retirement and Risk Provisioning
Students gain an overview of the product range
in the area of personal retirement and risk
provisioning in private banking. Starting from the
structure and significance of the German
retirement provision system as well as future
influencing factors and developments, the
module presents product solutions from the
individual insurance sector. Apart from insurance
solutions, this also includes bank products and
real estate as possible provision options. In the
area of personal risk provision, the products of
accident, occupational disability, private health
and nursing care insurance are presented with
respect to risk aspects, benefit features and
special tax features.

handling structured data, especially databases,
the handling of documents in sales, consulting
and management processes and the general
conditions for achieving high quality and reliability
IT support.

Accounting
Students are familiarized with methods of
managing strategies and structures, their
application and their limits. Further emphasis is
put on personnel management as part of
corporate management, which is geared towards
the targeted influencing of employee behavior.

This module deals with all risk categories in an
integrated approach taking into account current
developments. Special attention is paid to the
implementation of risk management in the
companies. Furthermore, the module conveys
topics on strategic thinking, competitive
advantages and customer benefits. Students
participate in a business game to become
acquainted with the importance of marketing,
sales, reinsurance, investment business and
management accounting. They are enabled to
understand the interdependencies between these
areas. Participants make independent
entrepreneurial management decisions for an
insurance company. Moreover, they acquire a
deeper understanding of the business
management characteristics in the insurance
industry.

The module imparts knowledge of essential asset
classes including their characteristics, risks and
returns as well as the legal and tax framework for
financial instruments.

instruments of successful sales management.
They are able to assess the significance and role
of sales in a company and understand the

This module provides students with information
on successful self-employment, raises their
problem awareness and discusses solutions for
self-employment related issues. Students are
familiarized with methods and instruments for a
successful business start-up and management.
Particular emphasis is placed on quality and time
management in brokerage firms.
6th Semester 5 ECTS
3FW-VRKBM-60 Customer/Consulting Management in Sales
This module introduces the classical and new
consulting concepts that are subsequently
applied in exercises. Students develop strategies
for consulting situations and practice them on the
basis of practical examples and simulated
conversations.

3FW-SMRIS-50 Risk Management
The module covers all risk categories in an
integrated approach. Particular attention is paid
to the decision on the insurability of complex risks
in the area of property insurance. Students
participate in a business game to become
acquainted with the importance of marketing,
sales, reinsurance, investment business and
management accounting. They are enabled to
understand the interdependencies between these
areas. Participants make independent
entrepreneurial management decisions for an
insurance company. Moreover, they acquire a
deeper understanding of the business
management characteristics in the insurance
industry.

In this module, students acquire knowledge about
the strategic differentiation of companies in the
competitive environment and the generation of
added value for customers. Furthermore, the

The module deals with the positioning of claims

The module is divided into two parts. On the one
hand, students receive theoretical input in the
areas of materials science and image
documentation. On the other hand, they
independently apply this knowledge to concrete
problems in the laboratories under the guidance
of experienced laboratory engineers .

3FW-SMVKM-60 Negotiation and Conflict Management in Claims
Processing
This module presents claims management as a
central element of customer management.
Students are enabled to move confidently in the
conflict area between customer interests and
company interests. In various situations, they
practice mediative action as a form of mediation
in conflict.

Based on the knowledge of financing, in
particular the credit business, equity finance,
capital market products and municipal finance,
students apply and deepen their knowledge by
structuring and implementing project funding for a
private or public infrastructure project.

Management for Sales
The module enables students to understand and
implement efficient claims management as a key
factor in the insurance industry. Using examples
and hands-on exercises, the module also
describes the process of thorough claims
management.

In this module, students are familiarized with the
issues of insurance abuse and fraud. This
includes methods for detecting and professionally
processing such cases. The topic is embedded in
aspects of supervisory, criminal and data

management knowledge and skills for drawing up
business plans. In teams, students then develop
a business plan on the basis of a concrete case

The overall objective of this module is the
sustainable improvement of professional skills in
the field of key qualifications. Students gain
decision-making competence to select and apply
a suitable methodology for solving concrete tasks
under transdisciplinary conditions. Through

cycle, from a first idea to the final prototype.

3FW-PMKI-10 Credit Institutions and their Environment
Students acquire fundamental knowledge of
credit institutions and other financial service
institutions. Focus is placed on the economic,
social, competitive and regulatory factors
influencing the activities of credit institutions.
Furthermore, this module aims to develop
students' communication, presentation and
moderation techniques and to deepen their
knowledge in the context of presentations.

Banking Industry (Foundations)
Students are familiar with the theoretical
principles covered in the modules of the first
semesters and are able to transfer this
knowledge to financial management practice.
Students acquire basic knowledge of the various
products/services, processes or developments
related to the practice company and/or
cooperation partners. The module includes an in-
class seminar where the requirements for the
writing of scientific papers are discussed in group
work.
2nd Semester 6 ECTS
3FW-PMDK-30 Services and Costumer Consulting
The third practical module provides students with
comprehensive knowledge of the investment and
credit business as well as services related to
payment transactions. Focus is placed on the
various forms of financing and offers relating to
investment and payment transactions of the
practice company and of cooperation partners
including their legal framework conditions, the
concrete design and their conditions. Further
emphasis is laid on the acquisition of knowledge
concerning the sale of financial services as well
as the practice and analysis of consulting and
sales talks.

The module aims to provide comprehensive and
well-founded knowledge of the services and
developments/trends in the banking industry.
Students analyze the services and framework
conditions of the banking industry and draw
conclusions about perspectives and trends. They
also analyze the processes within financial
service providers and develop potential
recommendations for optimization.
4th Semester 6 ECTS
3FW-PMSBW-50 Specializations in the Banking Industry
Students consolidate and deepen their theoretical
knowledge and practical experience in the field of
banking management. They identify possible
areas of specialization and choose a particular
path in agreement with their practice partner.
They independently acquire in-depth knowledge
in the chosen field of specialization and thus
systematically prepare themselves for the
professional discussion.

and deal with data protection regulations. In an
in-class seminar, they learn how to practice sales
in a theory-based manner.

The module aims to provide a comprehensive

economic factors influencing the business
activities of their own practice company and draw
conclusions about perspectives and trends.
Further focus is placed on the essential aspects
of teamwork, which are developed and tested.

Bachelor Thesis
3FW-BAFW-60 Bachelor Thesis
The module includes the completion of a
bachelor thesis and its defense. The bachelor
thesis deals with selected topics in the field of
finance. The seminar aims to help students find
topics and to support them in their scientific
approach.
