Definition—DesigneeAn individual authorized by ASME to act on its behalf for the purpose of performing reviews, surveys, assessments, audits, surveillances, investigations and examinations of organizations or persons holding, or applying for, accreditation or certification in accordance with the ASME Code or Standard

ASME DESIGNEE• May be

– An individual or employee of a non-profit organization or government agency

– An individual who is not employed by the organization being reviewed and does not engage in work of a conflicting nature

• May not be– An employee of the organization’s AIA– An employee of a Certificate Holder (or applicant) under

the same conformity assessment program– An ASME employee engaged in related work – A member of the BHA– An individual having a financial interest in the

organization

• Certification– Accepted by the BCA Committee on Designees

based on criteria approved by BCA.

ASME DESIGNATED ORGANIZATIONDefinition

– An organization designated by ASME to perform administrative functions defined in ASME Codes and Standards

– Example: The National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors is a Designated Organization which offers:

• Examinations for ASME Designee as a BPV Team Leader

• Pressure Relief Device and Testing Laboratory Reviews

• And may conduct Team Leader Seminars for Continued Certification. This function is also performed by ASME.
