The back office PC will connect to the POS terminal using a serial (RS232) connection.

The maximum length for the RS232 cable is 100 feet. The baud rate must be set to 19,200. The default comport for the VeriFone POS controller is 5.

There is a PC Communications Kit that may be ordered. This kit includes a 50 foot RS232 cable and both a 9-pin and 25-pin null modem. The null modem will be connected to the back office pc.

A list of current back office partners can be found on the VeriFone website at: petro-c.verifone.com.

Car Wash Controllers

When a car wash controller is interfaced with a VeriFone POS system it allows a customer to purchase a car wash at the dispenser.

Depending on the software application on the VeriFone terminal, this feature usually requires a Ruby Card for the POS Controller.

PeripheralsModule 6: VeriFone POS Peripherals

When interfacing a car wash controller with a VeriFone POS terminal, when the customer purchases a car wash at the dispenser a car wash code will be printed at the dispenser.

If a customer purchases a car wash inside the store, the Sales Associate will ring up the sale on the POS terminal. The receipt will include the car wash code.

This code originates from the car wash controller and is sent from the car wash controller to the VeriFone POS Controller. If the customer purchased the car wash at the dispenser the POS controller sends the code out to the dispenser.

The car wash feature also includes three different types of discounts. They include:

• A minimum number of gallons must be purchased. For example, the customer must purchase at least 10 gallons of fuel in order to receive a discount on a specific car wash.

• A minimum number of gallons must be purchased on a specific fuel product. For example, the customer must purchase at least 10 gallons of premium fuel in order to receive a discount on a specific car wash.

• A minimum dollar amount must be purchased. For example, the customer must purchase at least $25 in order to receive a discount on a specific car wash.

Coin Dispensers

When a coin dispenser is interfaced with the VeriFone POS terminal(s), the coin dispenser handles all change.

The Sales Associate no longer handles any coins, which will in turn speed up the cashier lane – research shows 5 seconds will be saved on every transaction.

The other advantage of the coin dispenser is errors caused by the Sales Associate miscalculating change back to the customer.

PeripheralsModule 6: VeriFone POS Peripherals

The coin dispenser interfaces with a special VeriFone cable (P/N 55202-01).  The cable is gray in color.

Using an RS232 cable will not interface with the VeriFone POS and will cause communication issues.

The default comport on the VeriFone POS is comport 1.

For the most current list of coin dispensers that interface with the VeriFone POS please go to the VeriFone website at: petro-c.verifone.com.

Easy ID

With the EASY ID feature, it is easy to comply with applicable laws for selling age-restricted products.

Cashiers can swipe or scan an ID to automatically verify if the customer is of legal age to purchase alcohol or tobacco products.   For states with magnetic stripe IDs, the licenses can be swiped in the Ruby.  For states with 2D bar codes, a 2D bar code scanner (which can also be used for scanning products) can be used.

Note : Check to be sure the state you are installing supports this feature.

When tobacco or alcohol is sold, the Sales Associate will swipe of the customer’s driver’s license.

For states with magnetic stripes on their licenses, the Ruby reads the magnetic stripe on the back of the driver’s license and checks the birth date.

Fuel Dispensers and Card Readers

Unlike other POS manufacturers in the petroleum industry, VeriFone does not manufacturer fuel dispensers or dispenser card readers.

Instead the VeriFone POS terminal(s) interface with a variety of fuel dispensers and dispenser card readers.

In order for the VeriFone POS to interface successfully a dispenser interface device will need to be installed.

Proprietary Fleet

The proprietary fleet program allows a site to have a private label credit card for their specific business.

Fleet programs can promote loyalty, and strengthen a site’s return business.

Some proprietary fleet programs require a Ruby card when interfacing this feature with the VeriFone POS systems.

The Ruby Card allows the site to accept private label cards both inside at the POS terminal and outside at the dispenser card reader.

PeripheralsModule 6: VeriFone POS Peripherals

If a customer uses a private label credit card at the dispenser when the card information is sent inside to the POS controller it will send the information to a separate fleet card system instead of sending to the major oil network.

The fleet card system will store the transaction information and later the site will pull these transactions for billing.

The default comport for the VeriFone POS controller is comport 2.

For a current list of proprietary fleet programs interfacing with the VeriFone POS system visit our website at: petro-c.verifone.com

Tank Level Monitor Systems (TLS)

VeriFone POS systems interface with a tank level monitoring system.

By interfacing the TLS with the POS, the POS will report the tank level monitoring information on the shift and daily reports. This can save a site valuable time and will help them to better manage their fuel inventory.

The tank monitor interfaces with the Ruby terminal using an RS232 cable.  The default comport is 1.

A current list of tank monitors interfacing with VeriFone POS systems can be found at our website: petro-c.verifone.com.
