Why a book by and about Dutch Modellers? Aplausible question, and not so easy to answer.Perhaps we simply wanted to show you that theNetherlands have more to offer than cheese, tulips,windmills, wooden shoes and the city of Amsterdam. Is there such a thing as a Dutch modelling style? Astyle as distinctive as for example the Scandinavian orSpanish school or our southern neighbours, theBelgian modellers have? I tend to lean towards thetheory that Dutch armour modelling is certainly mostinfluenced by the modelling scene in Belgium, but atthe same time is a melting pot of styles. Like mostmodellers all around the globe, we pick up certaintechniques and apply those that we are mostcomfortable with. We all create a style that fits us best,and that is perhaps the best answer to the question.All modellers represented in this book have their ownapproach towards modelling and all have very differentstyles and interests.Most of the modellers represented here haven`tpublished their works in printed form ever before or inother cases, only a very few times. Some names mightring a bell, if you visit the various internet forums. Andalthough the internet is a great source of informationthese days and an easy way to share your work withthe world, it also is a fast medium, where even thebest models are forgotten after a few weeks. Models,presented in a printed form like in this book, have asubstantially longer shelf life in peoples` memories.We have opted for a "Coffee table-style" book, and notfor a step-by-step approach of each project, unless itwould contribute to the value of the article. Otherbooks, and also many sources on the internet, dealmuch better with that. With "Made in Holland" we hope to have addedsomething of value to the world of military scalemodelling. Not only can you find inspirational work thatmay be familiar but several contributors have also builtone or more projects especially for this book. We trulyhope that "Made in Holland" will be an inspiring sourcefor you in your modelling efforts, for years to come andif that happens, we have achieved our aim!Robert Crombeecke46*;46)
