Hi, ive made this tutorial in 16 days and I hope that anyone will understand it. Firstoff all, im sorry if there are gramatical mystakes, english is not my language. If youthink that you can make something in 3DS max, then post your tutorial like me.Doesnt matter if your tutorial its a basic or advanced tutorial. I think that you knowthose words :the knowledge is the food of the soul

    About tutorial :

    - In this tutorial we will model a Audi TT 2008. Below, i have prepared the document. You can download it from HERE (its for 3ds max 2009). In that document you havethe blueprint sliced and the planes in 3ds max. You need to put those blueprints onthose planes and we can start to model. I think that is better if anyone will downloadmy file because we will have the same documents.

    1. After you have downloaded my file, open it with 3DS Max and put the blueprintslinke in the picture.

    2. After you have put the blueprints on those planes, select all the planes > right click > object properties. Uncheck Show Frozen in Gray and check Freeze. After thisprocces you cannot move your blueprints accidentaly when you will model the car.

    2/48

    3. Lets start to model. Make a tube at the front wheel like in my picture. You havethe values of the tube in the picture :

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    3/48

    4. Having the tube selected, right click > convert to > editable poly. Then detele thepolygons which are from interior.

    5. Now delete the polygons that are under the car

    6. Choose Vertex from modifier menu. We will start with the vertex who is on thetop. After you have selected that vertex, move hit at his place. If you will check thephoto you will understand more.

    7. The same thing we will make with the others vertices. I recommed to checl thephotos at each step

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    4/48

    8. Nou choose Edges , select those 4 edges like in my image, hold shift and drag toleft. Be carefull to drag them straight

    9. Select Vertex and move the vertices in the same spots as me. REMEBER : eachvertex need to be in the same spot in each view. You can press ALT + X to make theplane transparent.

    10. Move those 3 vertices which are in the exterior of the front panel and move themalong the line (car line)

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    5/48

    11. Select the vertical edge from the top and give she an chamfer ( 16.0 )

    12. Move those 2 edges in the same spots as me to fit with the lines of the car

    13. Make the same thing like in the image beneath. Extrude that edge

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    6/48

    14. Check the photo for a better explaination

    15. Move that vertex in his place (same view , same spot). Use the left, up, and frontview to place the vertex in his spot

    16. Move the vertices from the right side of the panel , like in the image

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    7/48

    17. Select the edges > Shift and drag out to right to extrude the edges. Dont forget tomove the vertices on the line of the car after this procces

    18. Lets start to model the hood. Select the edges at the top, and extrude them likeme. And after this , check the vertices

    19. Do the same this at those 4 edges which are at the front of the car

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    8/48

    20. Now, we need to weld some vertices. Use target weld , or weld to do this step

    21. Now we will use the same steps (18-19) because is the same thing. You can youthose steps until you will finish the front part

    22. After you have made like me , use Cut to make some edges like in the picture

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    9/48

    23. Now we have some new vertices. Move those vertices at the same level with othervertices/edges because we dont need bumps on our car

    24. Check the image

    25. Use the same steps until now to model the hood

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    10/48

    26. to the front bumper same thing

    27. To weld the hood with the bumper do like me. Select the edges like in image ,then click on Bridge.

    28. Now, if you have a hole in your body (cars body , not yours) , select Borderand then click on the edges which form that hole and then clip on Cap

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    11/48

    29. Using Cut, cut the plane to make like mine :

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    12/48

    30. We need to delete some edges. Verify the image to see what i will delete.Attention : After you have erased the edges , you need to erase the vertices too.Do not press delete when you want to delete the edges or the vertices. Just selectedge/vertex > right click > remove

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    13/48

    31. We will move to the center of the car. Extrude the edges like in my image. Dontforget to put the vertices at their place. After this, select the cars body > right click >freeze selection. We will continue at this a lil bit later

    32. Lets start to model the rear bumper : make a plane and move/model it like in theimage, i hope that you kmow how to model it, right click > convert into > editablepoly etc.

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    14/48

    33. Continue with the rest of the rear bumper. Below you have 2 images to help you if you are stuck

    poza 33b

    34. We will continue with the same methods. Do the same as me :

    35. At this stept you have 2 pictures. In the left picture you have the first sub-stepand in the right you have the 2nd. Where ive made the circle you need to weld theverticec. I REPET : Dont forget the vertices

    36. Continue with the same methods until now

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    15/48

    37. Before welding the 2 parts of the car, extrude the edges like in the image beneath.Same view , same spot

38.Now big attention : right click > Unfreeze all. Then first thing you will do is toselect the planes with the blueprints and after you have select those planes > rightclick > freeze selecton. Only the planes, not the front part of the car

    39. Select the rear part , right click > Attach and then select the front part. If you havedone this step, the 2 parts should be in a single object

    40. Select those 6 edges ( 3 on each side ), then from modifier menu , click onBridge

    41. Now we will continue with that part wich is near taillight

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    16/48

    42. Continue like until now extruding edges, using weld to weld vertices and weput vertices at thei place

    43. At the rear panel, select the same edges as me, then right click > choose Scale ,hold shift and extrude/make smaller those edges

    44. As you know, we will move the vertices

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    17/48

    45. Nou move the vertices to the exterior of the panel (not much , just a lil bit)

    46. Ive created some edges using Cut . Check the photo to see about what Imtalking

    47. We will climb up to the rooftop by extruding those 3 edges which will cover therear window

    48. Select those 6 edges ( 3up, 3 down) then click on that little square from Bridgeand put 2 segments :

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    18/48

    49. Advance to the front of the car :

    50. Select the same edges as me :

    51. Having those edges selected, click on that little square from Chamfer and atchamfer amount put 11.0 and at segments : put 1

    52. we need to weld some vertices. Check the image and usign target weld , weldthe vertices A to vertices B :

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    19/48

    53. Select and remove the vertex (check the photo to see what vertex)

    54. Dont forget to put the vertices at their places

    55. Now we can come back at the front part :

    56.

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    20/48

    57.

    58.

    59. Done with the shape of the car .. You can choose from modifier listturbosmooth sau meshsmooth to see the result until now

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    21/48

    60. Using Cut, make those edges

    61. At the tailight ive made a little mystake, sry we will fix this in no time. If you have made the same shape as me (left side of the picture), the select the edge thati have selected > right click > remove. Choose Cut to make a new edge like in theright side of the picture

    62. Now lets start the part which is more difficult (not excesive). Select the sameedges as me

    63. Having those edges selected, apply on them a chamfer (chamfer amount 0,55)

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    22/48

64 . Attention : check each intersection of the edges and if u find the same thing likein the left side of the image, use weld or target weld to weld those vertices like inthe right side of the image. If you will not modify, its possible to have some bump onyour car. And before make something that you are unsure about it, I recommend tosave your document

    65. After you have weld those vertices , apply a turbosmooth or meshsmooth to verifyif you have any imperfections

    66. Lets finish with the panels. Select the edges of the panel, right click > scale , holdshift and extrude/make smaller those edges. Then put the verices in their places

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    23/48

    67. Select the same edges as me , and apply on them a chamfer 0.5

    68. Do the same thing at the rear panel. Make smaller by choosing scale , holdingshift and drag to the interior then move the vertices

    69. Use Cut to make the contour of the headlight like in the image beneath. Onlythe red edges are made using Cut

    70. Select the polygons which cover the headlight then press on Detach and name ithow you want. Ive name it headlight

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    24/48

    71. If you have checked with turbosmooth or meshsmooth, probably the corners of theheadlight arent so sharp. To make them more sharper, choose cut and make the sameas me :

    72. Choose Border and click on the contour of the headlight. After you haveselected that hole, hold shift and drag to the interior of the car

    73. After you have extruded that hole to the center of the car , havgin those edges stillselected, click on Cap to fill that hole. After that the empty hole is filled with apolygon, choose Polygons , select that polygond then pres on grow

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    25/48

    74. Press Detach , to detach those polys from the rest of the body and put wahtname you want

    75. Select the new object ( the case of the headlight ) > right click > hide unselectedbecause we nedd to do something at this object and we can work easely if we haveonly this object in our sight.

    76. If you will apply now turbosmooth or meshsmooth to this component, you willsee that the shape isnt really good. So, use Cut to make those edges from a vertex toanother :

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    26/48

    77. You shoul have 6 polys, if you have more its not a big problem. Select those 6 (ormore) polygons and then click on the little square from Inset. At Inset typechoose group and at Inset Amount put 0.3

    78. Right click > Unhide All. After all your object have appeared , choose all objects ,except the cars body > right click > hide selection. And now you will have only theplanes and the body. Make those edges (with red) using Cut

    79. Having the new edges selected, apply a chamfer with a value 0.5

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    27/48

    80. Use Cut to make this contour :

    81. Choose the same vertices as me and then move those in the interior ( just a littlebit )

    82. Select the same polygons as me, then click on that little square from Extrudeand at Extrusion Type choose Local Normal and at Extrusion Height put -15

    83. Keep those polygons still selected and move them a little bit to right , to be in thecenter

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    28/48

    84. Select the same vertices as me , and move they a lil bit lower

    85. Select the same edges as me and give to those edges a chamfer 0.5

    86. Now, as we have made this place under the headlight, the same methods we willuse to make that front place, where we will put the big grill. Use the same stept (79 >85). Beneath you have a picture to see my result. Make the contour and then extrudethe polys

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    29/48

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    30/48

    90. Select the same vertices as me, and using Scale make them a little bit smallerusing the X and Y

    91. After 90th step you need to move some vertices back in their place. So , check theimage to see what im talking about

    92. As you can see in the bleprint, the front grill is made from 2 parts which aredivided at half by an object. Whe should do this before extruding those edges , sry. Itsmy first tutorial. But we will fix this in no time . Beneath you have a polygon whichneed to be deleted

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    31/48

    93. Ok, after you have deleted that polygon , select those ones

    94. Extrude these polygons until you will conver the side of the deleted polygon.Which we have deleted in the step 92. Do not modify any vertex

    95. After you have extruded those 3 polygons , in each side is a new polygon. Youwill delete both polygons because we dot need them :

    96. Now you should be able to weld 2 vertices (check the photo)

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    32/48

    97. Use Cut to make these edges >

    98. I hope that in the 96th stept you have weld those vertices, because if you dont ,you will have a ugly hole in your car. Select the same edges as me and give them achamfer 0.2

    99. Lets finish with the headlight, make a cilinder with the same size as cars light

    Cilinder values :

    Radius : 13,5Height : 40Height Segments : 2Cap Segments : 3

    Sides: 18

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    33/48

    100. Use the basic modeling methods until you will have these shape ( in the left sideis the shape in the right side , you have the shape turbosmoothed)

    101. The same methods you will use to make the second cilinder :

    102. Make a box which will deserve as signalisation/other light. Use FFD to make ashape which will fit in the headlight case:

    103. We are done with the headlight, and honestly the headlight are not my strongest

    point

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    34/48

    104. Use Cut to make the contour of the door :

    105. Select the polygons which cover the side windows, and give those polygons anextrude 1.5

    106. Having the same polygons still selected , press Detach an put what name youwant

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    35/48

    107. Select the edges which form the contour of the door and give them a chamferlike this : Chamfer Amount : 0,4 . 1 segment . check the box at Open

    108. Detele the same polygons as me:

    109. This is the result until now . Ive applied a meshmooth ( 2 literations) but youcan apply a turbosmooth also. I use meshmooth because are not so many polygons :

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    36/48

    110. Select the same edges as me and give them a chamfer 0.4 , 1 segment and check that little box at Open

    111. Select the poligons which cover the hood , then press on Detach and put whatname you want.

    112. Select the polygons which cover the windshield then press detach. You can useCut to make the contour of the windshield is the polygons arent in the same shapeas the windshield. Atention : if you use Cut dont make to many polygons. Saveyour document before doing this step

    113. Use Cut to make those edges :

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    37/48

    114. Having the new edges selected + those edges which are selected in my picture ,give them a chamfer 0.2 and check the little box from Open

    115. Now , check the result with meshsmooth or turbosmooth to see if there are anyimperfections. If you have some bad shapes on your car, beneath you have possiblemodeling errors.. in the left side of the picture you have Before corection and in theright side , you have After corection

    116. Make the contour of the rear window them select the polygons which cover the

window and press on Detach. Same thing as the windshield. My result withmeshsmooth..

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    38/48

    117. Make the taillight using the same methods as the headlight. Select the polygonswhich cover the tail light, extrude those polygons and at the corners use chamfer witha low value to make them more sharp. After you have done those sub-steps , selectall polygons which form the case of the tail light and press on Detach

    118. To make that plexiglass which cover the tail light, select the polygons from theback of the case, hold shift and drag out until at the limit

    119. Use the basic modeling methods to model the tail light components. You cansearch on Google to see better what components you need to model. By the way, youcan come with your own ideea .

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    39/48

    120. Select the same edges as me and give them a chamfer with a value 0.9 (dontcheck the box at open check only when i say)

    121. Having those 2 edges still selected , apply on them a chamfer 0.1

    122. Make the contour of that little red light then select the polygons which covedrhim and pres Detach

    123. Select the same polygons as me and give those polys an Extrude with -12

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    40/48

    124. On the center of the car, a new polygon has formed. We dont need him, so youneed to delete that polygon. See the picture if you dont know about what pilygon imtalking about :

    125. Select the same edges as me and apply on them a chamfer 0.3

    126. Make the same edges as me using Cut. Lets finish with the rear spoiler :

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    41/48

    127. Extrude the polygons which are in my image, dont much just a little :

    128. Having those polygons still selected , press on Grow and then on Detach

    129. Delete these polygons :

    130. Make the contour of the hole from where the exhaust pipe will exit

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    42/48

    131. Remove the same polygons as me

    132. Extrude the selected edges to the interior

    133. Select the same edges as me and give them a chamfer 0.3

    134. Now, you cam model the exhaust pipe using a tube and the basics of modeling. You can make what exhaust you want if you have your ideas.

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    43/48

    135. Select the same edges as me and give them a chamfer 0.3

    136. Select the same edges as me :

    137. Having those edges still selected, hold shift and drag to the interior of the car.Drag until you will have the same thickness as the wheel

    138. Select the new polygons and press Detach

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    44/48

    139. Create the same polygons as me to cover the back side. Use basics moethods todo this. You can use only brige , Cap and Cut .. very simple

    140. Select the same edges as me and give them a chamfer 0.5

    141. Select the same edges as in the image, hold shift and drag them to the interior of the car

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    45/48

    142. After you have extruded the edges, move the vertices from each side close to thespoilers

    143. To model the handle of the car, make the contour of that little hole, extrude thepolygons a lil bit to the interior of the ca, select the polygons whicc form that littlehole and press detach. Use a box to make the handle

    144. I have made the mirror using 2 boxes and basics of 3D modeling.

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    46/48

    145. Now, you need to make the rims, tyres, brake discs. Below you have sometutorials which will help you to model those objects

Rim modeling tutorial Tyre modeling tutorial (will be posted in short time)Brake disc modeling tutorial

    146. Select all the objects that you have, the go to modifier list and choose Symetry. In the symetry sub-menu you will find mirror. Choose Mirror and use move tool tomake the other side of the car.

  • 8/9/2019 Modelling a Car in 3ds

    47/48

    147. On the center of those 2 halfs, verify if the vertices are weld. If they arent, go tomodifier list, choose edit poly. Or you can make right click > convert to > editablepoly, but i dont recommend because if you will need to make any modifications onyour car, you need to make on both sides. Lets came back to our vertices. After youhave choosed edit poly from modifier menu, use WELD not target weld for those

vertices. Using weld they will be welded in the center of the car.

    148. Lets model the front grill. Below you have my model. Ive used some cilinders, boxes and bend to make this object

    149. To make those 4 rings, use a tube with the values which are below and thenmake 3 copies of that ring. Convert the ring in a editable poly then attach all ringstogether to make a single object.

    Radius 1: 12.0Radius 2: 9.0Height : 2.5

    Height Segments : 3Cap Segments : 1Sides : 18

    150. Use meshsmooth turbosmooth to make some surfaces more smoother, assignthe materials and render you car. below is my result

So, if you really appreciate my work, and if you want to keep this site alive, you candonate a small amount of money to pay the hosting service because i cannot affordright now. On this site you have all for free, 3D models, very good tutorials, and soonwill be more stuffs so its all for free and will be forever like this if you will helpus to pay the hosting service .. If we cannot pay the hosting service, the webiste willbe turned off in this summer
