ED PENNIMAN’S
MODEL T SHINES AT
SCHOOLBy John Anderson
Story continued on Page 5
.
In late January I received a request from Kristie Copeland at Cedar Ridge High
School in Round Rock. Mrs. Copeland was the drama teacher that made a star out
of Dave Barrett’s 1920 Coupe. Fast forward to today’s time. Mrs. Copeland’s son
is in the 3rd grade at Forest Creek Elementary School in Round Rock. He wanted
to make his presentation to the class on Henry Ford. Mrs. Copeland asked it we
could furnish a Model T for the demonstration. I sent out a notice to several folks
and Ed Penniman responded. On Jan. 31 Ed wrote to Mrs. Copeland: My
Pleasure. I too was intrigued as a youth and that is how I wound up pursuing a
Model T. The car expanded our country much like the railroads and I enjoy
educating others on it’s significance. See you Monday –Ed.
Mrs Copeland wrote: Thank you so much for your willingness to participate in my
son’s presentation at Forest Creek next week. His teacher is extremely excited and
is communicating with the principal about the best place on campus to have the
kids come out and view such a special piece of history.
What an incredible opportunity for these students! And
come out and view they did! Ed said “they were amazed
that the car was so different than the ones they ride in
every day.” It turns out that more than the 3rd graders got
to see the car that Monday. Apparently most of the school
children got to sit in the driver’s seat, get their pictures
taken and chat with Ed about the car. A rewarding
experience!

MINUTES OF THE NOVEMBER 2017 MEETING
Promptly at 7 pm on Nov. 21, 2017, President Rob Norberg welcomed all members and guests for the regular monthly meeting of the Cen-Tex Tin Lizzies. There were 21 members, but no guests present..
Jan Donnell gave the treasurer's report stating that we have a good bank balance. George Brunner made a motion to accept the report as given and Bob Ross seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Karen Ross gave the Wellness Report saying that Elaine Clark has had shoulder surgery and is recovering at home.
New member sent in membership form with dues for 2018. New member is Alan Napier and wife Vally K. Napier from Belton, Tx. And they have a 1925 Model T Coupe. He gave the report on the car that his father purchased the car from a Mr. Orr near Champaign, Illinois in 1962. “Henry” has been garaged in Illinois, West Virginia, Florida and now Texas. He believes the engine was rebuilt in the late 1990's. Alan inherited it from his dad this year. The car is titled in Texas and registered as an antique. The original owner added a brake light switch.
Rob asked if everyone had read the minutes of the October meeting and as there were no additions or corrections Bob Ross made a motion to accept the minutes as written and JC Carter seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Tom Romberg said that he had broken the crankshaft on his T at the T Party tour on the first day of the tour. So now he is in the process of working on his car.
Joe Pinnelli said there were 16 cars on the Kingsbury Fly-In Tour—8 Model T's and 8 Model A's. They ate lunch at Frank's and then drove on to the air field. It was a beautiful day, they stopped at Dean's on the way home.
Nominations for new officers were to be made. Bob Ross made a motion to keep the same slate as last year and Karen Ross seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Rob Norberg reminded everyone that the Christmas party will be held at the Texas Land and Cattle on South Mopac on Sat. Dec. 9th. Each person is to bring an unwrapped toy for the Toys for Brown Santa.
Bob Ross said he had received the tail end for his car back.
Show and Tell: Wayne Clark brought some confederate money that he found in a
drawer from an antique headboard. He won the prize for the best show and tell. Gary Baker won the 50/50 contest.John Anderson gave a program of a video of the T tour at Palo Duro Canyon in 2010. Meeting adjourned at 8:10 pm.

Hello Tin Lizzies, 2018 is now upon us, what will the new year have in store for us?Hopefully we will get to drive our beloved model T’s a bit more, welcome new members into our fold and spread the word as to how much fun “T” ownership can be.Over the years I have owned a variety of cars and belonged to a number of different car clubs, some were marque only clubs, others were just local groups. Many of us belong to multiple clubs for a variety of reasons. This can change through time, a geographical move, a car being sold (by choice or necessity) etc. Some clubs represent the high end of automobile collecting and owning a car that fits in can be out of reach for the common man. Just as in the early days, these big beautiful machines usually require a substantial investment.Henry Ford’s intent to make a car for the common man was successful (as we all know). As Model T owners we continue with this idea by allowing the common man to be in (or stay in) the old car hobby. In my opinion, the Model T Community is as welcoming as any. Judgement is not passed on condition or rarity of your car; we are just happy you have one and want to be part of our world. Weather it is a $500 pile of parts or a Top trophy winner, all are welcome. In the collector car world, I believe the Ford Model T offers more smiles per dollar spent than any other car.
