Los menúsdigitales de esteproducto utilizan laúltima tecnologÍaJava™ de SunMicrosystems Inc.

El equipo de televisión tiene 4 botones queencontrará situados en la parte frontal o en laparte superior del mismo, dependiendo delmodelo.

Con los botones VOLUME - + (- ”+) se ajustael volumen del sonido. Los botones PROGRAM- + (- P +) sirven para seleccionar el programa.Para acceder a los menús, pulse simultáneamentelos botones ”- y ”+.A continuación use los botones PROGRAM - +para seleccionar qué desea ajustar y losbotones - ”+ para realizar dicho ajuste.Para salir de los menús, pulse los botones ”- y ”+ simultáneamente.Nota: Cuando la función BLOQUEO INFANTIL estáactivada, los botones a los que hemos hechoreferencia se encuentran deshabilitados (consulte elmenú VARIOS en la página 16).

& Ubicando el equipo de televisión

Coloque su TV sobre una superficie sólida yestable, asegurándose de dejar un espacio librede al menos 5cm alrededor del aparato.Para evitar accidentes, no sitúe sobre el equipofundas o cubiertas de tela, recipientes con líquido(jarrones) o fuentes de calor (lámparas). Elequipo no debe entrar en contacto con el agua.

• Introduzca la clavija proveniente de la antenaen la toma que encontrará en la parte traseradel equipo :.

• Introduzca el cable de red del equipo en unatoma de corriente (220-240 V / 50 Hz).

“ Control remoto

Coloque las dos pilas de tipo R6 (suministradascon el equipo) asegurándose de respetar lapolaridad indicada.Las pilas suministradas con este aparato nocontienen ni mercurio ni níquel cadmio. Si tieneacceso a un punto de reciclaje, por favor no tire encualquier lugar sus pilas usadas (si tiene algunaduda consulte con su vendedor). Cuando repongalas pilas usadas use otras del mismo tipo.

‘ Encendiendo el equipo

Para encender el equipo pulse el botón on/off.Aparecerá un indicador luminoso de color rojoy se encenderá la pantalla.Vaya directo alcapítulo Encendido del equipo por primera vez,en la página 4. En el caso de que la televisiónpermaneciera inactiva pulse el botón P # delmando a distancia.El indicador luminoso parpadeará cada vez queutilice el mando a distancia.

Los botones del mando a distanciaInformación por pantalla

En el modo digital, pulse una vez para mostrarpor pantalla la ventana de información, dos

veces para obtener más información acercadel programa y una tercera vez para hacer

desaparecer toda la información de lapantalla. En el modo analógico, este botón

muestra / oculta la información del programa(número, nombre, hora, modo de sonido). Sidesea que el número de programa analógico

aparezca de forma permanente en la pantalla,mantenga pulsado el botón durante

5 segundos. El nivel del volumen y de losajustes de control inteligente se visualizarán

en la pantalla cada vez que se usen. Menú de opciones (lea p. 10).

Botones numéricosDa acceso directo a los programas.Cuando el número de programa sea de2 (3) dígitos, el segundo (tercer) dígitose debe introducir antes de que la rayitadesaparezca. Durante unos segundos semostrará por pantalla el número y elnombre (así como el modo de sonido,en modo analógico) del programa.

¿Canales analógicos o digitales?Para recibir los canales de TV, su televisor está equipado con dos sintonizadores. Uno es para los canalesdigitales y el otro para los canales analógicos. Utilice el botón v de su mando a distancia para hacer quela TV alterne entre el modo analógico y el modo digital.A continuación, emplee los botones P @ # o0 9 para seleccionar un canal.

La primera vez que encienda su TV, aparecerápor pantalla un mensaje de enhorabuena en 12 idiomas (cada 5 segundos):

& Pulse el botón u del mando a distancia en elmomento en que aparezca su idioma por lapantalla.A continuación se visualizará el menú:

é Las opciones Idiomas, país y time zone (zonahoraria) han sido preseleccionadas de acuerdo conla pantalla de inicio.De cualquier modo, usted tienetodavía la opción de cambiar sus preferencias antesde realizar la búsqueda de servicios.

“ Con los botones del cursor, elija idiomas, Pais oTime zone (Zona horaria) y compruebe que lasopciones seleccionadas se ajustan a suspreferencias. Si es necesario, utilice los botonesdel cursor para realizar sus ajustes y pulse u

para salir.Precaución: si selecciona un país distinto del suyo lanumeración de los canales no coincidirá con elestándar de su país.

‘ Seleccione el elemento servicios scan y pulseu para comenzar la instalación. El menúservicios scan aparecerá en la pantalla.

( Este menú le invita a elegir el idioma de los menúsanalógicos.Utilice los botones îÏ delmando a distancia para elegir su idioma ydespués valide con ¬. Seleccione su país conlos botones îÏ y después valide con ¬.Precaución: si selecciona un país distinto del suyo lanumeración de los canales no coincidirá con elestándar de su país.

§ La búsqueda y almacenamiento de todos losprogramas, tanto analógicos como digitales, esautomática. Una vez terminada la búsqueda, enel menú se indicará el total de serviciosdigitales y programas analógicos encontrados.

è Pulse el botón u para empezar a ver la TV. Eltelevisor mostrará en ese momento el programaactual. La instalación se puede dar por concluida.

Cuando se selecciona un programa digital, en laparte superior de la pantalla aparecerá, duranteunos pocos segundos,una ventana de información.También es posible pulsar el botón ∂ del mandoa distancia para desplegar esta ventana. Pulsandouna segunda vez, se muestra más informaciónacerca del programa (cuando esta está disponible).

La ventana contiene información sobre elnúmero de la presintonía, número del canal,duración del programa, horario de latransmisión, título del programa, y el tiempoque le resta al programa para su finalización (si así ha sido elegido en el menú de opciones).

MHP: Introducción a InteractividadEste TV Digital soporta el nuevo estándar de interactividad digital denominado MHP (MultimediaHome Platform).Algunos canales de TV digital contendrán aplicaciones MHP como juegos,información adicional, votación, etc., y otros no. Los párrafos siguientes explican cómo saber que hayaplicaciones MHP disponibles y cómo controlarlas.

En cada canal digital, usted dispone de variasaplicaciones junto con el canal digital (juegos,votación, aplicaciones interactivas...).

& Desde el modo digital, use las teclas @ P # ó09para seleccionar el canal digital de su elección.

é Si hay aplicaciones disponibles, durante unossegundos aparece un icono en el extremosuperior derecho de la pantalla:

“ En la mayoría de los casos, se iniciará

automáticamente una aplicación MHP.Este procesopuede tardar entre 5 segundos y varios minutos,dependiendo del tamaño de la aplicación.

‘ El contenido de la aplicación viene definido porel proveedor de servicios. Deberá seguir lasinstrucciones en pantalla. Las teclas quenormalmente se usan son las siguientes:• las teclas 09, c y îÏÈ¬,• la tecla u para seleccionar o activar,• teclas de colores (roja,verde,amarilla, azul y blanca).

( Para detener la aplicación, usted puede:• Seguir las instrucciones de la propia aplicación

é El canal digital actual se presenta en una pequeñaventana en el centro de la pantalla. En la parteizquierda,encontrará iconos para las aplicacionesresidentes incorporadas (Guía TV e Instalación).Enla parte derecha,encontrará las aplicaciones MHP(si están disponibles en el canal seleccionado).

“ Use las teclas de cursor para seleccionar las

aplicaciones que desea y oprima u para activarla(o la tecla de color correspondiente a “Mostrar”).

‘ Puede seleccionar:• Guía TV: le permite buscar programas

digitales como lo haría en un periódico o enuna revista de televisión (consulte la página 11)y programar el televisor para grabar (p. 12).La tecla o del mando a distancia también leproporciona acceso a la Guía TV.

• Instalación: para acceder a todos los menúsdigitales de instalación.

• Aplicaciones MHP (en la parte derecha de laventana): estas aplicaciones (cuando estándisponibles) son emitidas por diferentescanales digitales. Su contenido viene definidopor el proveedor de servicios.

Si desea detener una aplicación MHP, seleccione laaplicación con ayuda del cursor y oprima la teclade color correspondiente a “Detener”. La tecla rojaMOSTRAR sólo se usa en caso de que la aplicaciónno se inicie automáticamente. La aplicación que seestá ejecutando mostrará una animación del icono.

• Inicio automático: seleccione No si desea iniciarsiempre manualmente las aplicaciones MHP.

Algunas aplicaciones MHP le permitenresponder en directo al programa que se estáemitiendo en ese momento. En ese caso, puedeconectar opcionalmente un módem externo altelevisor (consulte la página 22). Introduzca con las teclas numéricas elnúmero comunicado por su ISP.

• User name: (nombre de usuario) Introduzcasu nombre de usuario. Use las teclas @P#

para seleccionar los caracteres.• Password: (contraseña) Introduzca su

contraseña de ISP.• Tipo de marcación: indique el sistema de su

teléfono, tonos o pulsos.• Secuencia de inicialización del módem: Indica

una secuencia de inicialización compatible conHayes tal como se menciona en el manual desu módem.

• Prefijo de marcación: Si está conectado a unacentralita telefónica, deberá indicar el prefijode marcación para llamadas al exterior.

• Código para desactivar espera de llamada: sidesea desactivar la espera de llamada, use lasecuencia indicada en el manual del módem.

• ¿Esperar tono de marcado?: dependiendo deltipo de módem, deberá seleccionar Sí o No.

• Tiempo de inactividad (minutos) antes de

desconectar: para evitar facturas telefónicaselevadas, puede ajustar el tiempo máximo deinactividad.Es aconsejable empezar por 3 minutos.

• Grabar (botón rojo): este elemento le permiteprogramar la grabación del grabador de vídeo (sitiene el accesorio EasyLink y está conectado alEXT2). Para entrar o salir del teletexto. Cuando se pulsa una vez, apareceel índice principal con una lista de elementos disponibles.Cada página corresponde a un número de tres cifras.Algunosprogramas digitales pueden incluir también teletexto analógico.Si este es el caso, es posible acceder a él pulsando el botón deteletexto durante 3 segundos.Si el teletexto no está disponible, aparecerá el número 100 y la pantallapermanecerá en blanco (en este caso, salga del teletexto y elija otro canal).

Utilice los botones 0 hasta 9 o @ P # o îÏ para introducir elnúmero de la página correspondiente. Ejemplo: página 120, introduzca1 2 0. El número se visualiza arriba a la izquierda, el contador vacambiando y luego se muestra la página.Repita esta operación paraver otra página. Formatos 16:9 Es posible que las imágenes que reciba estén siendo transmitidas en formato 16:9 (pantalla ancha) o enformato 4:3 (pantalla convencional). Las imágenes en 4:3 a veces tienen una banda negra en la partesuperior e inferior de la pantalla (formato buzón). Esta función le permite optimizar la visualización de laimagen por pantalla.

Cambio automáticoEste televisor está también equipado con cambio automático el cual elegirá el formato de pantallacorrecto, cuando las señales específicas que se necesitan estén siendo transmitidas con el programa.

Utilización de los diferentes formatos de pantallaPulse p para elegir entre los distintos modos:

4:3, ZOOM 14:9, ZOOM 16:9, ZOOM SUBTÍTULO, SUPER ZOOM y PANTALLA ANCHA.Con los programas analógicos únicamente, puede acceder directamente a estas configuraciones con los botones È y ¬.

4:3 ModoLa imagen se reproduce en formato 4:3 y una banda negra se visualiza aambos lados de la imagen.Con los programas analógicos únicamente, laimagen puede ampliarse progresivamente utilizando los botones îÏ.

ZOOM 14:9Se amplía la imagen a formato 14:9, una delgada línea negra permanecerá aambos lados de la imagen. Con los programas analógicos los botones îÏ

le permiten comprimir verticalmente la imagen para ver la parte superior oinferior de la misma (subtítulos).

ZOOM 16:9Se amplía la imagen a formato 16:9. Este es el modo recomendado paraver películas que tienen bandas negras arriba y abajo (formato buzón).Con los programas analógicos, utilice los botones îÏ si deseavisualizar la parte superior o inferior de la imagen.

ZOOM SUBTÍTULOEste es el modo que se utiliza para visualizar imágenes 4:3 utilizando todala superficie de la pantalla dejando los subtítulos visibles. En programasanalógicos, utilice los botones îÏ para aumentar o reducir la secciónen la parte inferior de la imagen.

SUPERANCHOEste modo se emplea para visualizar imágenes 4:3 utilizando toda la superficiede la pantalla ampliando los lados de la imagen.Con programas analógicos, losbotones îÏ le permiten mover la imagen arriba y abajo.

PANTALLA ANCHAEste modo restablece las proporciones correctas de las imágenestransmitidas en 16:9 utilizando visualización de pantalla completa.Nota:Si visualiza una imagen 4:3 en este modo,esta se ampliará horizontalmente.

Conexión de equipos periféricosLa televisión tiene 2 tomas externas situadas en la parte trasera del equipo (EXT1 y EXT2).La toma EXT1 tiene entradas/salidas de audio y video y entradas RGB.La toma EXT2 tiene entradas/salidas de audio y video y entradas S-VHS.

Grabador de vídeo (sólo)Lleve a cabo las conexiones que se muestran al lado. Paragrabar programas digitales desde su TV, el VCR debe estarconectado a EXT2.Si su video no tiene una toma de euroconector, la única conexiónposible es por medio de un cable de antena. En consecuencia,deberá sintonizar la señal de test de su grabador de vídeo yasignarle el programa 0 (consulte memorizado manual, p. 14).Para reproducir la imagen del grabador de vídeo, pulse 0.En este caso no será posible grabar canales digitales.Grabador de vídeo con decodificadorConecte el decodificador a la segunda toma deeuroconector del grabador de vídeo.Así ya podrá grabartransmisiones codificadas.

La proximidad con montañas o edificios altospuede ser la responsable de imágenes fantasma,ecos o sombras. En este caso trate de ajustarmanualmente la imagen: vea "sintonizado fino"(p.12) o cambie la orientación de la antenaexterior. ¿Le permite su antena recibir emisionesen este rango de frecuencias (banda UHF oVHF)? En el caso de una mala recepción (imagencon niebla) ponga en ON la opción NR en elmenú analógico IMAGEN (p. 13).

Mala imagen (en modo digital)Si la imagen se congela mucho,o existe efecto bloque,hay un problema de recepción pobre. Por favor,compruébelo con el menú intensidad de señal (vea p.6).Dependiendo de la intensidad de las señales digitalesterrestres en su zona, las antenas estándar empleadaspara transmisiones digitales proporcionarán, en lamayoría de los casos, una recepción satisfactoria deseñales digitales.Si no fuera este el caso,un profesionaldeberá instalar una antena de haz estrecho de buenacalidad fuera del inmueble para capturar la mayorintensidad de señal digital posible.

Sin imagen ¿Ha conectado la toma de la antena correctamente?¿Ha elegido el sistema adecuado? (p.12).En muchasocasiones,cables euroconectores o tomas de antenamal conectados son la causa de problemas en laimagen o el sonido (algunas veces, los conectorespueden medio soltarse si se mueve o gira el equipo).Compruebe todas las conexiones.

Equipo periférico entrega imagen en blanco y negroNo ha elegido la toma correcta con el botón n:

S-VHS2 (S-VHS3) en vez de EXT2 (EXT3). Parareproducir un vídeo cassette,compruebe que ha sidograbado bajo el mismo estándar (PAL,SECAM,NTSC)que puede ser reproducido por el grabador de vídeo.

Sin sonido (en modo analógico)Si en determinados canales usted recibe imagen perono sonido,significa que no tiene asignado el sistema deTV correcto.Modifique la configuración SISTEMA (p.9).

El mando a distancia ya no funcionaCompruebe que el selector de modo en el ladodel mando a distancia está asignado a TV.¿La televisión no reacciona al mando a distancia?¿El indicador en el equipo ya no parpadea cuandousted usa el mando a distancia? Cambie las pilas.

Standby¿Cuando enciende el televisor, este permanece enestado de standby y se muestra el indicadorLOCKED cuando pulsa los botones de su equipo deTV? La función BLOQ. INFANTIL está activada (p.14).Si el equipo no recibe señal durante 15 minutos,pasará automáticamente al estado standby. Paraahorrar energía, su equipo está compuesto porcomponentes que tienen un consumo de energíamuy bajo en estado de standby (menos de 3 W).

¿Ya no responde la aplicación MHP?Si ha probado todas las opciones normales paradetener una aplicación MHP que no está funcionandobien (consulte la página 5), apague su TV y vuelva aencenderlo con el interruptor de encendido.

¿No ha resuelto el problema?Si su TV se avería, no trate de repararla usted mismo:contacte con su servicio de atención post venta.

GlosarioCAM y tarjeta inteligente: Es posible conectar un

CAM (módulo de acceso condicional) y una tarjetainteligente a la televisión. Esta unidad le permiteacceder a canales digitales de pago o serviciosespeciales del proveedor.

Receptor digital: La televisión está equipada con unsintonizador digital integrado que le permite recibirtransmisiones digitales con una antena terrestre. Elsintonizador es capaz de recibir Emisión de VídeoDigital bajo MPEG2,hasta Main profile @ Main level.

EasyLink: Conexión digital entre el equipo y elgrabador de vídeo que permite la transmisióndirecta de determinada información como puedeser la configuración de los canales.

MHP: (Multimedia Home Platform) es el nuevoestándar de interactividad digital para la TVdigital.Algunos canales de TV digital contienen

aplicaciones MHP como juegos, informaciónadicional, votación, etc.

Sistema:Los programas analógicos no se emiten de lamisma forma en todos los países. Existen diferentesestándares:BG,DK, I, y L L’. El ajuste SYSTEM (p. 9) seutiliza para elegir estos estándares. No se debaconfundir esto con la codificación de color PAL oSECAM.En la mayoría de los países europeos seutiliza PAL,mientras que SECAM se utiliza en Francia,Rusia, y la mayoría de los países africanos. EstadosUnidos y Japón utilizan un sistema distinto llamadoNTSC.Las entradas EXT1 y EXT2 se utilizan paraleer grabaciones codificadas en NTSC.

16:9: Hace referencia a la relación entre el ancho y elalto de la pantalla. Los televisores de pantalla anchatienen una relación de 16/9, la relación en losequipos de TV con pantalla convencional es 4/3.

The television set has 4 keys which arelocated on the front or the top of the setdepending on the model.

The VOLUME - + (- ” +) keys are used toadjust sound levels.The PROGRAM - + (- P +) keys are used toselect the required programmes.To access the menus, simultaneously holddown the ” - and ” + keys.ThePROGRAM - + keys may then be used toselect an adjustment and the - ” + keys tomake that adjustment.To exit from the menus, hold down the 2 ” - and ” + keys.Note: when the CHILD LOCK function is activated,these keys are unavailable (refer to FEATURESmenu on page 16).

& Positioning the television set

Place your TV on a solid, stable surface, leavinga space of at least 5 cm around the appliance.To avoid accidents, do not put anything on theset such as a cloth or cover, a container full ofliquid (vase) or a heat source (lamp).The setmust not be exposed to water.

é Connections

• Insert the aerial plug into the : socket atthe rear of the set.

• Insert the mains plug into a wall socket (220-240 V / 50 Hz).

“ Remote control

Insert the two R6-type batteries (supplied)making sure that they are the right way round.The batteries supplied with this appliance do notcontain mercury or nickel cadmium. If you haveaccess to a recycling facility, please use this facility (if in doubt, consult your dealer).When the batteriesare replaced, use the same type.

‘ Switching on

To switch on the set, press the on/off key.A red indicator comes on and the screenlights up. Go straight to the chapter Switchon for the first time, on page 4.If the television remains in standby mode,press P # on the remote control.The indicator will flashe when you use the remotecontrol.

The remote control keys

Screen informationIn digital mode, press onece to display

the information banner, a 2nd time to getmore information on the programmeand a 3rd time to remove it (see p. 4).

In analogue mode, this displays /removes the programme informations

(number, name, time, sound mode). Holddown for 5 seconds to permanently

display the analogue programmenumber on the screen.The volume level

and the smart control adjustments arethen displayed each time they are used.

Numerical keysFor direct access to programmes.For a 2 (3) digit programme number,the 2nd (3rd)digit must be enteredbefore the dash disappears.The number, the name (and the soundmode, in analogue mode) aredisplayed for a few seconds.

Programme selectionTo access the next or previousprogramme (or page in digital menus).

Mode selectorTo activate the remote control in

VCR or DVD mode (see p. 20).

To receive TV channels, your television is equipped with 2 tuners. One is for digital channels, the otheris for analogue channels. Use the v key of the remote control to switch the TV between analogueand digital mode.Then use the P @ # or 0 9 keys to select channels.

The first time the TV set is switched on, acongratulation message will appear on screen.The language of which changes every 5 seconds.

& Press the u key on the remote control, themoment your prefered language is visibleon the screen.The Setup menu is displayed :

é The language, corresponding country and time

zone is now preselected according to theopening screen. However, you can still changeyour preferences before you start a service scan.

“ With the cursor keys, select language, country

or Time zone and check if the adjustment isaccording to your preferences. If necessary,use the cursor keys to make your adjustment

and press u to exit.Caution: if you select a wrong country, the channelnumbering will not be according to the standardfor your country.

‘ Select service scan from the menu and pressu to start the installation.The service scan

menu is displayed.

( This menu asks you to choose the language ofthe analogue menus. Use the îÏ keys onthe remote control to choose your languagethen confirm with ¬. Select your countryusing the îÏ keys and confirm with ¬.Caution: if you select a wrong country, the channelnumbering will not be according to the standardfor your country.

§ All the digital and analogue programmes aresearch for and stored automatically.When thesearch is complete, the menu will indicate thenumber of digital services and analoguesprogrammes found.

è Press the u key to start watching TV.The television then displays the currentprogramme.The installation is now complete.

When you select a digital programme, aninformation banner is displayed for a fewsecondes at the top of the screen.You can also use the ∂ key of the remote controlto display this banner.A second press displays moreinformation about the programme (when available).

The banner contains information on thepreset number, channel name, programmeduration, transmission clock, programme titleand the time remaining of the currentprogramme (if set in the options menu).

MHP: introduction on InteractivityThis Digital TV supports the new digital interactivity standard called MHP (Multimedia Home Platform).Some digital TV channels will contain MHP applications like games, additional information, voting, etc,and others will not.The following paragraphs explain how to ascertain whether MHP applications areavailable and how to control them.

On each digital channel, you can have severalapplications together with the digital channel(games, voting, interactive applications, ...).

& From digital mode, use the 09 or @ P #keys to select the digital channel of your choice.

é If MHP applications are available, an icon will appearat the top right of the screen for a few seconds:

“ In most cases, an MHP application will bestarted automatically.This process can take

from 5 seconds to several minutes dependingon the size of the application.

‘ The content of the application is defined by theservice provider and you will have to followthe on screen instructions.The keys which aregeneraly used within apllications are:• 09, c and îÏÈ¬ keys,• u key to select or activate.• coloured keys (red, green, yellow and blue),

( To stop the application, you can :• Follow the instruction of the application itself

to stop it• Press the white EXIT key to leave the application

and go to the Applications Menu. Select theapplication you want to stop with the cursorkeys and press the yellow STOP key.

Use of digital applications

Digital applications menuThe digital applications menu enables you tocontrol the applications built-into the set orthose downloaded (MHP) via the broadcaster.

& From digital mode, press the ‹ MENU key.The Applications menu appears :

é The current digital channel is displayed in asmall window in the middle of the screen.On the left, you will find icons for the built in(resident) applications (TV Guide and Setup).On the right, you will find the MHP applicationsthat are available on the selected channel.

“ Use the cursor key to select the applicationyou which to use and press u to activate it(or press the colour key corresponding to “Start”).

‘ You can select :• TV guide :This allows you to look up digital

programmes as you would in a newspaper orTV magazine (see page 11) and to programthe tv for recording (p. 12).The o key on the remote control also givesdirect access to the TV guide.

• Setup : This accesses all the digital setup menus.• MHP applications (on the right of the window) :

these applications (when available) arebroadcast by each digital channel.Thecontent is defined by the service provider.

If you want to stop an MHP application, select theapplication with the cursor and press the colourkey corresponding to “Stop”.The red START key isonly used in case an application is notautomatically started.The icon of any applicationscurrently running will be animated.( Press the ‹ MENU key to leave themenu or press the close key (blue).

Setting up the interactivity profileThis menu allows you to set up the interactivityprofile for MHP applications.

& From digital mode, press the ‹ MENU key todisplay the Applications menu.

é Then, press the white OPTIONS key to display theOptions menu.

“ Use the Ïî keys to select a setting, makeyour adjustment with the È¬ keys andpress u or È to exit.• Enable broadcast applications: If you wish to

permanently disable downloaded MHPapplications, select No.

• Automatic start: If you want MHP applicationsto start automatically, select Yes.

Some MHP applications will require you to makelive responses to the program that is currentlybeing broadcast. For these cases, you can connectan external modem to the tv (see page 22).This menu allows you to set up the externalmodem connection.Recommended RS232 modems: Philips onlyrecommend modems which they have tested,information on these is available from:- the internet, address : www.philips.com/support- the Philips help desk telephone number (seeseparate guaranty booklet).Other types of modem can not be guaranted by Philips.


é Use the Ï key to select setup and press u.“ Select installation (Ï) and press ¬ to

display the installation menu :

Remark: Don’t for get to switch on the modem !‘ Select Modem setup (Ï) and press ¬.( Press ¬ again and confirm with u to

activate the modem adjustments.If no modem is connected, leave this setting on No.The modem adjustments are then unavailable.

§ Use the Ïî keys to select a setting andpress ¬ to enter into the sub-menu. Makeyour adjustment and press u or È to exit.The first settings are relevant if you already have anISP (Internet Service Provider). If not, the MHPapplications can use an ISP provided by thebroadcaster.• Telephone number: enter with the digit keys

the number provided by your ISP.• User name: enter your ISP user name.

Use the @P# keys to select the characters.• Password: enter your ISP password.• Dial type: indicate your telephone system,

tone or pulse.• Modem initialisation string: indicate a Hayes

compatible initialization string as mentioned inthe manual of your modem. Use the @P#

keys to input the right codes.• Dial-out prefix: if you are connected to a

switchboard, you have to indicate the dial-out prefix.

• Code to disable call-waiting: if you want todisable call-waiting, use the string indicated inthe modem’s manual.

• Wait for a dial tone ?: depending on themodem type, you need to select Yes or No.

• Idle time (minutes) before disconnect: toprevent high telephone bills, you can adjustthe maximum idle time. It is advise to startwith 3 minutes.

Warning: your own ISP data are default values. Ifthe broadcaster provides a different ISP, Philips cannot guarantee what telephone cost will be charged.

è Press the blue key to leave the menu.

Rearrange TV channels / radio stationThis menu allows you to change the order ofthe stored digital channels or radio station.


é Use the Ï key to select setup and press u.“ Use the Ï key to select installation and press

¬ twice to select the Service lists menu.

‘ Use the îÏ keys to select Rearrange TV

channels or Rearrange radio stations andpress ¬.

( Use the îÏ keys to select the channelyou want to exchange and press u toactivate.If you want to uninstall the selected channel, pressthe red key.

§ Select (îÏ) the new channel number youwant to exchange it with and press u toconfirm.The exchange is done.

è Repeat the operations ‘ to § until all thechannels are in the required order.

! Press the blue key to leave the menu.

The default pin code is 1234. If you have forgottenyour personal code, you can reset to the default pincode (1234) by enter the universal code 0711.

Setting up your favourite listThis menu enables you to create a favouritelist with your prefered TV channels and radiostations. For example, each member of yourfamily can create his/her own favourite list.

• Record (red key) : this feature enables you toprogram the recording of the video recorder(if it has an EasyLink feature and is connectedto EXT2). If your video recorder is notequipped with Easylink, the TV will provide adigital channel to be recorded.You will still haveto program your video recorder.

• Record list (green key) : this menu gives thelist of recording schedules.You can check,modify, delete or add a new schedule by usingthe cursor or coloured keys as indicated onthe screen.

• Information (yellow key) : you can obtain moredetailled information on the selectedprogrammes.

Recording functionThis feature enables you to program a digitalrecording and control the VCR (if it has anEasyLink feature and is connected to EXT2).If your video recorder is not equipped withEasylink, the TV will provide a digital channelto be recorded.You will still need to programyour video recorder.Important:The video recorder must be connectedto EXT2. Please note that it is NOT possible to recordone digital channel and watch another digital channelat the same time.You can however record a digitalchannel and watch an analogue channel on your TV, orvice versa. ‘ If this is not the case, the programmes foundwill be numbered in descending order startingat 99, 98, 97, etc.Use the SORT menu to renumber them.Some transmitters or cable networks broadcasttheir own sort parameters (region, language, etc.).Where this is the case, make your choice using theîÏ keys and confirm with ¬.To exit or interrupt the search, press the H key.If no picture is found, refer to the chapter entitledTips on p. 21. Rotating the pictureLarger screens are sensitive to variations in the earth's magnetic field.This setting makes it

Locking the set

This menu allows you to use your TV as analarm clock.

16:9 FormatsThe pictures you receive may be transmitted in 16:9 format (wide screen) or 4:3 format(conventional screen). 4:3 pictures sometimes have a black band at the top and bottom of the screen(letterbox format).This function allows you to optimise the picture display on screen.

Automatic switchingThis TV set is also equipped with automatic switching which will select the correct-screen format,provided the specific signals are transmitted with the programmes.

Using the different screen formatsPress the p to select the different modes:4:3, ZOOM 14:9, ZOOM 16:9, SUBTITLE ZOOM, SUPER ZOOM and WIDE SCREEN.With analogue programs only, you can access directly these settings with the È and ¬ key.

4:3 ModeThe picture is reproduced in 4:3 format and a black band isdisplayed on either side of the picture.With analogue programs only,the picture may be progressively enlarged using the îÏ keys.

ZOOM 14:9The picture is enlarged to 14:9 format, a thin black band remains onboth sides of the picture.With analogue programs, the îÏ keysallow you to compress vertically the image to view the top or thebottom of the picture (subtitles).

ZOOM 16:9The picture is enlarged to 16:9 format.This mode is recommendedwhen displaying pictures which have black bands at the top andbottom (letterbox format).With analogue programs, use the îÏ

SUBTITLE ZOOMThis mode is used to display 4:3 pictures using the full surface of thescreen leaving the sub-titles visible.With analogue programs, use theîÏ keys to increase or decrease the section at the bottom ofthe picture.

SUPERWIDEThis mode is used to display 4:3 pictures using the full surface of thescreen by enlarging the sides of the picture.With analogue programs,the îÏ keys allow you to move the image up or down.

WIDE SCREENThis mode restores the correct proportions of pictures transmittedin 16:9 using full screen display.Note: If you display a 4:3 picture in thid mode, it will be enlarged horizontally.

Connecting peripheral equipmentThe television has 2 external sockets situated at the back of the set (EXT1 and EXT2).The EXT1 socket has audio and video inputs/outputs and RGB inputs.The EXT2 socket has audio and video inputs/outputs and S-VHS inputs.

Video recorder (only)Carry out the connections featured opposite.To record digitalprogrammes from your TV, the VCR must be connected to EXT2.If your video recorder does not have a euroconnector socket, theonly connection possible is via the aerial cable.You will thereforeneed to tune in your video recorder's test signal and assign itprogramme number 0 (refer to manual store, p. 14).To reproduce the video recorder picture, press 0. Carry out the connections featured opposite.Using the n key, select EXT3 for a VHS or 8mmcamcorder and S-VHS3 for an S-VHS or Hi-8 camcorder.For a mono set, connect the sound signal to the AUDIO L (or AUDIO R) input.The sound automatically comes out of theleft and right speakers of the TV .

HeadphonesThe @ ” # keys allow you to adjust the volume onthe headphones and on the set. Press m if you want to cutoff the sound on the set.The headphones must have an impedance of between 32 and600 ohms.

To connect to a hi-fi system, use an audio connection cableand connect the “L” and “R” outputs on the TV set to the“AUDIO IN” “L” and “R” input on your hi-fi amplifier.Use a digital audio connecting cable and connect thetelevision’s “SPDIF” output to a “DIGITAL IN” input on theamplifier (amplifier with coaxial digital input).

A common interface is available to connect a CAM(conditional access module) and a smartcard. Please contactyour service provider to get more information about thesemodules.You can also connect an external RS232 modem for MHPapplications. Please contact your dealer to get moreinformation.Note: the television should always be switched off before any moduleis inserted in the common interface slot.To setup the modem, seepage 6.

TipsPoor reception (in analogue mode)

The proximity of mountains or high buildingsmay be responsible for ghost pictures, echoingor shadows. In this case, try manually adjustingyour picture: see "fine tuning" (p.12) or modifythe orientation of the outside aerial. Does yourantenna enable you to receive broadcasts inthis frequency range (UHF or VHF band)? In the event of difficult reception (snowypicture) switch the NR on the PICTURE

analogue menu to ON. (p. 13).Bad picture (in digital mode)

If the picture freezes a lot, or in cases of blockeffect, there is a problem of poor reception. Pleasecheck with the signal strength menu (see p. 6).Depending on the strength of digital terrestrialsignals available in your area, standard aerialsused for analogue transmissions will in mostcases provide satisfactory reception of digitalsignals. If it is not the case, a good qualitynarrow beam antenna should be professionallyinstalled outside the property and aligned tocapture the maximum digital signal strength.

No pictureHave you connected the aerial socket properly?Have you chosen the right system? (p. 12).Poorly connected euroconnector cables oraerial sockets are often the cause of picture orsound problems (sometimes the connectorscan become half disconnected if the TV set ismoved or turned). Check all connections.

Peripheral equipment gives a black & white pictureYou have not selected the right socket with the n

key: S-VHS2 (S-VHS3) instead of EXT2 (EXT3).Toplay a video cassette, check that it has been recordedunder the same standard (PAL, SECAM,NTSC)which can be replayed by the video recorder.

No sound (in analogue mode)If on certain channels you receive a picture but nosound, this means that you do not have the correctTV system.Modify the SYSTEM setting (p. 9).

The remote control no longer works.Check that the mode selector on the side ofthe remote control is set to TV.The TV set does not react to the remotecontrol; the indicator on the set no longerflashes when you use the remote control?Replace the batteries.

StandbyWhen you switch the TV set on it remains instandby mode and the indication LOCKED isdisplayed when you use the keys on the TV set?The CHILD LOCK function is switched on (p. 14).If the set receives no signal for 15 mins, itautomatically goes into standby mode.We adwise to switch off the TV overnightinstead of leaving it on standby.You save energy.

MHP application does not respond anymore ?If you have tried all the normal ways to stop anMHP application that is not working correctly(see p. 5) then switch your TV off and on againwith the power switch.

GlossaryCAM and Smart Card : A CAM (conditional

access module) and a smart card can beconnected to the television.This unit allows youto access subscription digital channels or specialservices from the provider.

Digital receiver : The television is equiped with anintegrated digital tuner which enables you toreceive a digital transmission with a terrestrialantenna.The tuner is able to received Digital VideoBroadcast compliant with MPEG-2, up to Mainprofile @ Main level.

EasyLink : Digital link between the set and thevideo recorder which allows a direct transfer ofcertain information such as channel setting.

MHP : (Multimedia Home Platform) is the newdigital interactivity standard for digital TV. Some

digital TV channels contain MHP applicationslike games, additional information, voting, etc.

System :Analogue programmes are not broadcast inthe same way in all countries.There are differentstandards:BG,DK, I, and L L’.The SYSTEM setting (p. 9) is used to select these different standards.Thisis not to be confused with PAL or SECAM colourcoding. Pal is used in the majority of Europeancountries, Secam in France,Russia and the majorityof African countries.The United States and Japan usea different system called NTSC.The inputs EXT1 andEXT2 are used to read NTSC coded recordings.

16:9 : Refers to the ration between the length andheight of the screen.Wide screen televisionshave a ration of 16/9, conventional screen TVsets have a ration of 4/3.

Positioning the TVFor the best results, choose a position where lightdoes not fall directly on the screen, and at somedistance away from radiators or other sources ofheat. Leave a space of at least 5 cm all around theTV for ventilation, making sure that curtains,cupboards etc. cannot obstruct the air flow throughthe ventilation apertures.The TV is intended for usein a domestic environment only and should never beoperated or stored in excessively hot or humidatmospheres.

Connecting the aerialThe aerial should be connected to the socketmarked : at the back of the set.An inferior aerialis likely to result in a poor, perhaps unstable picturewith ghost images and lack of contrast. Make-shift loftor set-top aerials are often inadequate.Your dealerwill know from experience the most suitable type foryour locality.Should you wish to use the set in conjunction withother equipment, which connects to the aerial socketsuch as TV games, or a video camera it is recommendedthat these be connected via a combiner unit to avoidrepeated connection and disconnection of the aerial plug.

Fitting the stand (if provided)Use only the stand provided with the set, makingsure that the fixings are properly tightened.Adiagram showing how to assemble the stand ispacked with the stand. Never use a make-shift stand,or legs fixed with woodscrews.
