3 Making the cut:

Note: If an elevating platform is used, the operatorcan keep the Buster V in a horizontal position duringmost of the split.

Always avoid using pressure; instead, guide the Bust-er V.

3.1 Mark the center of the backbone of the carcasswith a knife. This step is necessary only duringthe operators’ learning period.

3.2 Start the Buster V.

3.3 Saw through the tail bone using the knife mark asa guide. The idler end of the Buster V should bepointing upward while sawing through the tailbone.

3.4 When the tail bone hits the saw frame rail (item59, Figure C, page 6), continue to saw until thetail bone breaks apart and you can follow a pathdown the backbone of the carcass. The drive endof the Buster V should be lower than the idler endwhile sawing through the tail bone.

3.5 After the tail and aitch bones have been split, sawthrough the loin area. The Buster V should be ina horizontal position during this cut. Do notpressure the Buster V; guide the saw to ensure astraight cut.

3.6 Saw through the shoulder and neck of the car-cass. The idler end of the Buster V should bepointing downward while sawing through theshoulder and neck.
