Peanut Butter Blossoms

Ingredients:½ cup granulated sugar½ cup packed brown sugar½ cup creamy peanut butter½ cup butter or margarine, softened1 egg1 ½ cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour¾ teaspoon baking soda½ teaspoon baking powderAdditional granulated sugarAbout 36 Hershey's® Kisses® Brand milk chocolates, unwrapped

1. Heat oven to 375°F. In large bowl, beat 1/2 cup granulated sugar, the brown sugar, peanut butter, butter and egg with electric mixer on medium speed, or mix with spoon, until well blended. Stir in flour, baking soda and baking powder until dough forms.2. Shape dough into 1-inch balls; roll in additional granulated sugar. On ungreased cookie sheets, place about 2 inches apart.3. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until edges are light golden brown. Immediately press 1 milk chocolate candy in center of each cookie. Remove from cookie sheets to cooling rack.

There is nothing like the hustle and bustle of

the Holidays in a small town. Everyone is so excited, you can hear the laughter of the children playing in the center of the city. 1 cup butter, softened

heat oven to 400. mix butter, 1/2 cup powdered

sugar and the vanilla in large bowl.

stir in flour, nuts, and salt until dough

holds together. shape dough into 1-inch

cookie sheet. bake 10-12 minutes or until set

One of my favorite parts of winter is

pulling on my heavy boots and coat, then wrapping a warm scarf around my neck to brave the chilling Kansas winds after a snowfall. As I crunch through the pristine blanket of snow cover-ing the fields, I some-times find a treasure peeking through the stark whiteness of it all - the bright red blossom of a prairie cactus. During the fall months, these sturdy little plants are green prickly mounds hiding in the tall grass just waiting to grab at your socks. But the cold winter weather inspires beautiful red blooms that are a magical surprise in the midst of all the gray grass and sparkling snow. It’s a burst of color from Mother Nature to assure us spring is just a few months away. Patterns created by Kansas Troubles.

7 Layer BarsIngredients:

½ cup unsalted butter, melted9 whole graham crackers, crushed (about 1½ cups crumbs)1 cup finely chopped pecans (can substitute walnuts)1 cup semisweet chocolate chips½ cup white chocolate chips½ cup butterscotch chips1 cup sweetened flaked coconut, toasted1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk

1. Adjust an oven rack to the lower-middle position and preheat to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9x13-inch baking pan with non-stick spray. Line the pan with two overlapping pieces of foil or parchment paper, leaving the overhang to act as handles for lifting the bars out of the pan. Spray with non-stick spray.

2. Combine the melted butter and graham cracker crumbs in a small bowl. Toss with your fingers until the butter is evenly distributed. Spread the crumbs evenly over the bottom of the prepared pan (this is not meant to be a crust, so you don't need to press it flat and there will be some small bare spots along the bot-tom, that's okay).

3. In this order, sprinkle the pecans, chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, and coco-nut over the graham crumbs. Pour the condensed milk evenly over the entire dish.

4. Bake until the top is golden brown, about 25 minutes. Cool in the pan on a wire rack to room temperature, about 2 hours.

5. Remove the bars fromthe pan using the foil or parch-ment handles and transfer to a cutting board. Using a sharp knife or bench cutter, cut into 2 by 3-inch bars.

Oatmeal Crispies

Ingredients: (Makes 5 dozen)1 C Shortening1 C Brown sugar1 C Granulated sugar2 Well beaten eggs1 t Vanilla1 ½ C Flour1 t Salt1 t Soda3 C Quick-cooking oatmeal (rolled oats)½ C Nuts (chopped) (I like pecans)

Thoroughly cream shortening and sugars. Add eggs and vanilla. Beat well. Add sifted dry ingredients. Add oatmeal ad nuts. Mix well. Shape into rolls. Wrap in wax paper. Chill thoroughly or overnight. Slice ¼ inch thick. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet. Moderate oven 350 degrees for 10 minutes.

This is my Mom’s recipe. Wrapped rolls keep well in fridge or longer in freezer. An easy slice and bake, no fuss cookie.

Cinnamon Chip Pumpkin

Oatmeal Cookies

Ingredients:3/4 c butter, soft1 c sugar1/4 c brown sugar1/2 tsp vanilla1 c canned pumpkin1 egg, beaten1 1/2 c flour1 3/4 c rolled oats1/2 tsp baking soda1/4 tsp nutmeg1/2 tsp cinnamon1 tsp salt1 1/2 c cinnamon chips

Preheat oven to 350 and line cookie sheets with parchment paper. Beat butter and sug-ars together until creamy. Beat in egg, then vanilla and pumpkin. In another bowl combine flour, oats, soda, nutmeg, cinna-mon and salt. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, stirring with a wooden spoon. Stir in cinnamon chips. Drop heaping spoonfuls onto prepared cookie sheets and bake for 12-13 minutes or until edges are slightly golden. Let cool for a minute or two then transfer to a cooling rack.

When i was in art school studying

printmaking, I made many prints in just black and white. I had a world of colored inks available but I really liked the clarity of image that a limited palette achieves.I’ve sought to do some-thing similar with this collection - Ikon. While the patterning is created in much the same way I always work using simple – almost humble – mark-making tools, the limited colors lend a sophisticated touch to these designs, mak-ing them just right for contemporary quilts and other modern home decorating proj-ects. Their aesthetic is spare and quiet, yet still capable of making an impact.

Dunn's Brownies

Ingredients:

1 Stick Unsalted Butter

2 oz Unsweet baking chocolate

2 eggs

1 cup sugar

1/2 cup flour

1 tsp vanilla extract

pinch of salt

powdered sugar

Melt butter and chocolate in a pan on

low heat. in a medium bowl beat eggs with

sugar, add a pinch of salt. combine melted

chocolate with eggs then add flour and

vanilla. pour mixture into a greased (with

butter) glass, square baking dish. bake 20

minutes at 350 degrees. once cooled, sift

powdered sugar on top, cut into squares

and enjoy!
